Thoughts & Predictions
March 6, 2019
Coming up on Sunday, March 10, is WWE Fastlane. It’s live on pay-per-view and on the WWE Network. Time for some thoughts and predictions. Note: As of this writing, Wednesday morning, these are the matches that have been announced so far. If any other matches are added, as I expect a U.S. title defense by Samoa Joe may be, I’ll come back and update this piece. And now, let’s do this…
Rey Mysterio vs. Andrade
It seems as if these guys have been fighting forever and why? Who knows or who really cares? It’s just a filler feud being used to keep both guys on TV while the so-called creative team figures out what to do on the “Road to Wrestlemania” for their bigger stars and the people named McMahon. Most of their encounters have had Rey winning and Andrade getting buried and why should this one be any different?
Winner: Rey Mysterio
WWE Champion Daniel Bryan vs. Kevin Owens.
Wouldn’t it be awesome to see KO win the WWE title on his first night back after double-knee surgery? It would be great, but alas, it seems that the plans going forward are for Bryan to move into a program with Kofi leading into Wrestlemania. Will Owens be a part of that? I hope so, but I doubt it. Right now, he’s just back to make an impression, show he still belongs at the top of the card and maybe be used to elevate some other talents like perhaps Erick Rowan. From what I understand, both Luke Harper and Sami Zayn have been cleared to return and are just waiting for a reason so how is this? Rowan gets involved in this match and saves Daniel Bryan. This leads to an Owens and Zayn feud with Harper and Rowan while Bryan then goes on to battle Kofi. Works for me. So look for Rowan to get involved and Bryan to retain.
Winner and STILL WWE Champion: Daniel Bryan w/ Erick Rowan
WWE Smackdown Tag Team Champions The Usos vs. Shane McMahon & The Miz.
The Usos are arguably the best tag team in WWE right now and despite their extra-curricular activities, they are the team that should be holding those tag team titles going into Wrestlemania. So look for the Usos to decimate and dominate and mixed signals between Miz and Shane lead to the Usos retaining the gold. Then they can move on to other challengers and we can get a Miz & Shane break-up leading to a match between the MVP of WWE and Superman at Mania.
Winners and STILL Smackdown Tag Team Champions: The Usos
Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair.
So Becky wins the Royal Rumble and despite that, she still has to beat Charlotte to be put into the WWE Raw Women’s Championship match at Wrestlemania against Charlotte and Ronda Rousey. So the question here is do they let Becky overcome the odds and win, thus putting her where she’s supposed to be or do they swerve us and Charlotte wins, thus Becky is out of the match and has to find another way to get into that ring and fight Ronda? I think we’ll get the swerve.
Winner: Charlotte Flair
The Shield vs. Drew McIntyre, Bobby Lashley & Baron Corbin.
The Shield wins. Bleh! I’m so over them already.
Winners: The Shield
WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion Asuka vs. Mandy Rose.
While Mandy is a beautiful woman, there is no chance in hell that she will beat the Empress and capture Smackdown Women’s gold. She’s not that good yet and Asuka should remain the champ heading into the big show.
Winner and STILL Smackdown Women’s Champion: Asuka
WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Bayley and Sasha Banks vs. Nia Jax & Tamina.
It’s too soon to take the belts off of Bayley and Sasha, despite Sasha’s track record of losing every title she wins in the first big defense. Nia and Tamina will put up a good fight and the match should be okay, but much like the Usos and Asuka, there is no chance in hell that the belts are changing hands just yet.
Winners and STILL Women’s Tag Team Champions: Sasha and Bayley
WWE Raw Tag Team Champions The Revival vs. Aleister Black & Ricochet vs. Chad Gable & Bobby Roode
This is the one where it could honestly go any way. I would prefer to see The Revival keep the titles and remain champs at least a few more months, but the argument can be made for putting the titles back on Gable and Roode as well. I don’t think that Aleister Black and Ricochet are going to walk out as the champs. They’re not a regular tag team despite their recent success and I think this whole tag team thing is just a holding pattern for the two until we get past Wrestlemania. Right now, they’re working all three brands (Raw, Smackdown and NXT) and if they’re saddled with tag team gold, that would have to stop. We don’t really have any other titles changing hands on the show and while I would rather see The Revival keep the gold, as I said, I think that having them chase the belts and determined to get the titles back, by hook or crook, might be the direction that WWE takes this. Let’s call it for Roode and Gable having a “GLORIOUS” night.
Winners and NEW RAW Tag Team Champions: Bobby Roode and Chad Gable
And there you go. If the WWE adds any more matches to the event or the Kickoff show, I’ll come back and modify this column and add predictions for those matches as well. Thanks for reading. Thoughts, comments and any questions welcome. What are your predictions? Are you even planning to watch this Sunday? Let a brutha know what up. Until the next time, take care and have a great one. I’ll see you at the matches.
As I figured, the WWE decided to add another match to WWE Fastlane and while it is not a defense of the U.S. title by Samoa Joe, as I was hoping for, it is two members of the New Day, Xavier Woods and Big E, facing off against the international threats of Shinsuke Nakamura and Rusev, accompanied by Lana of course. So let’s update this thing and do some quick predicting.
Rusev & Shinsuke Nakamura versus The New Day’s Big E & Xavier Woods
I’m not sure if this is to determine new #1 contenders for the tag titles or just to give The New Day members who are not involved in drama and WWE Championship contention a purpose to be there and keep the Kofi-love going. It should be a decent match for the Kickoff show and to get the audience pumped up and cranked. I’m surprised that it’s not a Cruiserweight match for this part of the show, but there is still 24 hours to go so WWE can add another match. As for this match, it’s the first match and they want to make the fans happy as well as keep the momentum for Kofi Kingston alive and kicking so look for the team with a long time history to conquer the evil foreign bad guys. Yeah, that’s how it goes.
Winners: The New Day
And there you go. My thanks for reading. And I’ll see you later.
