Wrestling Fact or Fiction – December 11, 2017

Tossing Salt Presents:
Wrestling Fact or Fiction
December 11, 2017

Let’s do this Fact or Fiction thing. Thanks to 411mania.com/wrestling for the questions. And the rest of it, that’s just me baby. Here we go…

1. Roman Reigns is The Best In Ring Performer in The World.

FICTION: Roman is a good wrestler and better than most people want to give him credit for, but best in the world? Give me a break. So long as AJ Styles, Cesaro, HHH, Charlotte Flair, Asuka, Kevin Owens, etc, are all active and performing, Roman isn’t even the best in the WWE. He’s getting better each and every match, but he still has a ways to go.

2. WWE running live events for the 205 Live brand, even on a limited basis, is an idea destined to fail.

FICTION: Running limited shows might just be the right thing that will get the 205 Brand over the humps and make it more viable and stronger. Having Enzo and Itami as the top guys is a good move as well and I could see the shows doing well and giving the Cruiserweights a big boost. It’s putting another option out there for the fans of the lighter, faster high flying wrestlers and if booked correctly, with strong stories and great wrestling, could be successful. It also could bomb, but at least the WWE is trying here and that is a good thing.

3. Paige’s Absolution stable has been booked very well so far.

FACT: So far, so good. The Absolution stable has taken out everyone and looked very strong. Paige wrestled a long match on Monday night and looked great, showing very little ring rust after her long break from the ring. I’m sure that eventually, WWE Creative will find a way to screw this up and bury these three ladies, but hopefully, it’ll be later rather than sooner. So far though, they’re batting 1000.

4. The Shield reunion is only being done in order to bayface “The Big Dog” Roman Reigns to the WWE Universe.

FICTION: That is part of it to be sure, but it’s also about merchandising and making money, plus giving the fans something different and a blast of happy nostalgia. Also, it keeps Roman, Seth and Ambrose relevant and on top of the card while allowing the title scene to be dominated by others for a change. Yes, I know that Roman won the Intercontinental Championship from Miz, but that was because Miz is off making a movie with Becky Lynch and HBK. He’ll find a way to get that title back when he returns and we’ll see Roman and his Shield buddies continue in their battles against The Bar and Samoa Joe and or The Miztourage with no titles involved as we build to the Royal Rumble and then Wrestlemania.

5. Keeping Nia Jax away from the Raw women’s scene while the Absolution group takes time to get over is smart.

FACT: Nia has a tremendous upside and is a very special woman on the RAW roster so when she does end up confronting Paige and the Absolution group, it should be a big and special moment that stands out and means something. Building towards that moment and protecting Nia as the resident “monster” of the Women’s Division is smart and good booking by WWE (for a change).

6. What is your current level of interest in “Woken Matt Hardy” in WWE?

On a scale of 1 to 10, I’m going with a solid 8. Matt was more entertaining this past week than he has been during his entire return to WWE. He’s having fun and it’s DELIGHTFUL to see Matt able to just cut loose and bring the Broken Universe to the WWE and especially against Bray Wyatt. If Vince and Creative just back off and let Matt and Bray book this feud, it will be EPIC beyond all measure. This is either going to be really really good or else it’s going to fizzle out and die a painful and agonizing death. I’m going positive here and can’t wait to see how Matt tries to DELETE Wyatt’s evil presence from the WWE Universe.

And that’s all the Fact or Fiction stuff. All feedback is welcome and appreciated. Talk to me, my Peeps! Thanks for reading and until the next time, have a great one. Take care.

Wrestling Q&A – December 9, 2017

Tossing Salt Presents:
Wrestling Q&A
December 9, 2017

Before I get started on the Wrestling Q&A, I have two things to say. First off, my condolences to the friends and family of Fred Fox, long time local radio personality who passed away earlier today. First with WEWO and then later, as the owner of WLNC, Fred was truly and will always be the “Voice of Scotland County”. RIP Fred.

And secondly, we are just hours away from the Scotland High School “Fighting Scots” playing for the 4A State Championship. I graduated Scotland, Class of 85… and best of luck to my former High School. Bring it home guys. GO SCOTS!

And now, let’s do some wrestling…

1. With the end of the year coming to a near… who would you say are you top ten wrestlers in the world?

I’m mainly a WWE guy, but I do try to pay attention to the rest of the wrestling companies as well. In my opinion, the Top Ten right now would be: Brock, AJ Styles, Miz, Kenny Omega, Cody Rhodes, Jay Lethal, Asuka, Cesaro, Kevin Owens and Neville, subject to change of course, but all of these folks can always be counted on to put on a top notch match and work well with anyone.

2. CAN or WILL Broken Matt Hardy work in WWE ??

So long as Vince refrains from getting too involved and allows Matt Hardy the creative control he needs, I think Broken Matt Hardy can and will do very well as part of the WWE Universe.

3. Who’s the top ten best tag teams in the world currently ?

This is only opinion and speculation on my part, but if I was trying to get together the best tag teams in wrestling today for an event, I would go with Cesaro & Sheamus, Gallows & Anderson, The Usos, Nick & Matt Jackson, The Revival, The Miztourage (Axel & Dallas), Harper and Rowan, The Hardy Boyz, Briscoe Brothers and Owens / Zayn.

4. Hypothetically: If WWE were to create a shoot, modern day version of the Brawl For All tournament, with MMA instead of boxing, (EXCLUDING BROCK) who would be some guys you would like to see compete and who do you think would win? Who would fill out your 16 man bracket?

Sixteen WWE guys that I think would do well in an MMA style “Brawl For All” type tournament? I think I’d go with Sheamus, Karl Anderson, Samoa Joe, Shinsuke Nakamura, Drew McIntyre, Rhyno, Jinder Mahal, Big Show, Roman Reigns, Bobby Roode, Braun Strowman, Curtis Axel, John Cena, Rusev, Luke Gallows and Cesaro. And my winner, at the end, I think would be either Joe or Nakamura.

5. Do you see Batista be as big of a movie star as the Rock?

What the Rock has achieved goes above and beyond almost anyone in Hollywood history, much less anyone from the world of wrestling. Batista will and is doing well, but will he ever be as big as The Rock? Nope!

And there you go. Thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, questions and all feedback is welcome and appreciated. Until the next time, take it easy & have a great one.

Music Fact or Fiction – December 9, 2017

Tossing Salt Presents:
Music Fact or Fiction
December 9, 2017

Happy Holidays to everyone on this extremely cold and wet Saturday morning. Before I get started, I want to send out a big Happy Birthday shout-out to an amazing friend, Chris Boone, who is celebrating the Anniversary of his birth on this day. And also a big shout-out to the Fighting Scots of Scotland High School, who will be playing in the NC State 4-A Championship game this afternoon. Go Scots! Congratulations on an excellent season. Now bring that title home. And now, with the questions provided by my friends from 411mania.com/music, let’s do some of that Fact or Fiction stuff ya’ll love so much. Are you ready to get funky like a monkey? Then let’s do it…

1. “Shape of You” is deserving of its tremendous success.

FACT: It’s catchy and stays in your head after just a few listens. Ed Sheeran has every right to be proud. This is a big hit and well deserving of the success that it has had.

2. The judge in the Meek Mill case appears to be treating him unfairly.

FACT: The judge has been extra tough and it seems as if he’s got a personal issue in the case or against Meek and probably needs to watch himself and tone it down a bit to avoid the taint of appearing to be unfair and biased. But then again, if Meek Mill had followed the law and not violated his probation, he wouldn’t have anything to worry about, would he? Just saying.

3. Martin Shkreli’s Wu-Tang album will be released to the public within the next five years.

FACT: Once Shkerli gets his crap straightened out with the Government, one of two things will happen. He’ll be needed the cash flow a new album will produce and will work to ensure that the album is finally released OR the Government will seize ownership of the already-recorded album and realizing that it’s worthless to them, will sell it back to the Wu-Tang Clan and it will be released that way. But one way or the other, I think it will finally come out within the next few years.

4. Russell Simmons made the right decision in stepping down from Def Jam.

FACT: With the charges against him, Russell Simmons is damaged goods right now and trying to remain as the head of Def Jam right now would only harm the company and the people who work there. It doesn’t matter if the allegations against Simmons are true or not. In today’s politically correct climate, he’s guilty until proven innocent and if his company is to survive and remain strong, he can’t be the man in charge there anymore. It’s just that simple.

5. DMX’s version of “Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer” was pointless.

FACT: Pointless, dumb, stupid and a total waste of time, just like DMC is at this point really. I know that some people like him and more power to them, but I’ve never really cared for his music and this attempt at a Christmas song sure as hell didn’t help things.

6. A joint album from Beyonce and Jay-Z would be great.

FACT: I’m not a big fan of either of these two, but even I will admit that both are solid artists and have a large legion of fans who appreciate their music. I don’t really mind the music, but it’s the personal issues and their politics that turn me off mostly. But that being said, they both have talent and as good as they are as solo artists, they bring out the best in each other and their stuff together is usually really good. I won’t be listening or buying it, but that’s just me. I’m sure it will be awesome, sell several million copies and make their fans happy and that’s really all that matters, right?

And that’s all of that for now. Time to go to bed for a little while and then it’s back later for Day 2 of my blog series, “12 (Dougie) Days of Christmas”. So watch for that. Thanks for reading. Comments and thoughts are welcome and appreciated. And until the next time, take care and have a great one.

Wrestling Fact or Fiction – December 3, 2017

Tossing Salt Presents:
Wrestling Fact or Fiction
December 3, 2017

Top of the morning to you and all of that. How you be? It’s Sunday and it’s time to do that Fact or Fiction thing, wrestling style. The comments for which I am commenting come from my friends over at 411mania.com/wrestling. And the opinions that follow, they come from me. Let’s get this party started and do it…

1. WWE will end up allowing Daniel Bryan to wrestle again to stop him from leaving when his contract ends.

FACT: I’ve been saying this for a while that eventually, WWE is going to end up giving in, have Bryan sign a ton of waivers, and allow him to have at least one more match before it all said and done, preferably with someone like The Miz. Bryan has made it clear that he’s not going to give up his dreams of wrestling again and he’s been to doctor after doctor who has told him that he should be medically cleared to wrestle. The only one who won’t allow it is the WWE’s head doctor, but seeing as how they’ve allowed Kurt Angle to step back into the ring, as well as Jeff Hardy, with their medical issues, not to mention Bret Hart a few years ago against Vince McMahon, it’s just a matter of time before he gives in as well and clears Bryan to wrestle. If the WWE wants to keep Daniel Bryan as part of the WWE, they need to just let him do what he does best. Otherwise, they’re just going to lose him anyhow.

2. The booking of Finn Balor has been completely horrible.

FACT: For the most part, since coming to the main roster, Balor’s WWE presence has been largely forgettable, but is that the WWE’s fault or Finn’s? Finn started off with a strong push, quickly becoming the first ever WWE Universal Champion, but injury forced him to give up that title the next day and the company moved on while he was recovering from his injuries. And since then, it’s been hit or miss with his matches. The Demon is over, but Finn as himself gets buried and stuck in a totally bizarre and forgettable feud with Bray Wyatt and then squashed by Kane and now what? It’s like they just don’t know what to do with him. He’s still popular with the audience and with the right feud or opponent, can rise back up to the top of the card easily in my opinion, but just seems stuck in a holding pattern right now, as if they’re waiting for something. Whatever it is, I hope they find it soon and he can get back on track. Finn deserves better.

3. It’s ridiculous that Brock Lesnar may not defend the Universal Title at the Royal Rumble because “WWE does not have a suitable opponent for him.”

FACT: Just by the status of their title “WWE Superstar”, any and every person on the roster should be considered as a suitable opponent for Brock. If they weren’t the best of the best, why are they in WWE? There are over sixty men on the WWE roster and at least a dozen former World and WWE Champions among the list, so the idea that no opponent is “suitable” is just plain stupid as hell.

4. The Young Bucks & Cody Rhodes plan to run a self financed, 10,000 seat event in 2018; the show will be a success.

FACT: It won’t be easy to promote and sell out an arena for 10,000 plus fans, but if any independent wrestlers can do it and make it work, Cody and the Bucks might be the ones. At least I hope it is anyhow for their sake. With the promotion that will have to be done, not to mention putting together a literal “dream card” and taking care of all of the technical aspects without the power of a big company like WWE behind them, it’s going to be a major headache at times and I can see them eventually linking up with an established group like ROH, Tommy Dreamer’s “House of Hardcore” or even Impact Wrestling (f*ck the Owl) to make it work and take care of the logistic issues. If they just manage to break even financially and put on a great show, I think they can write it down as a success. I wish them much luck with this…

5. We will see a version of Broken Matt Hardy in WWE sooner rather than later.

FACT: The Owl and Impact have given up the fight and Matt has won the rights to his “Broken Universe” and while I don’t think WWE will allow Matt and his team of Senor Benjamin, Vanguard 1, King Maxel and Reby Hardy to have quite as much freedom or craziness as they were able to with TNA, I think we might end up seeing all of them doing their thing very very soon. Matt has already set his sights on Bray Wyatt and I can’t wait to see the promos that these two men, in full character, can cut upon each other. It doesn’t matter if you’re a “Broken Matt” fan or not, it’s happening and will be shaking up RAW and the WWE like few things have ever done before. I am looking very forward to this.

6. What is your current level of interest in the Impact Wrestling product?

Honestly, it’s about as low as it can go without totally ignoring the company and their shows. I’m a big fan of Chris Masters and like to keep track of what he’s doing and there are a couple of other wrestlers also with TNA that I enjoy so I read the recaps and news on the websites and pay some attention that way, but aside from that, Impact is barely on my radar anymore. I wish them the best and hope they do well, but I’m just not into them right now.

And there you go. I think that’s enough for today, at least for this piece anyhow. Thanks for reading. Thoughts and comments are welcome and appreciated. Until the next time, take it easy and always be a fan. Have a great one.

Wrestling Fact or Fiction – November 26, 2017

Tossing Salt Presents:
Wrestling Fact or Fiction
November 26, 2017

Now, let’s talk about some rasslin’, shall we? Last night in Greensboro, NC was the return of Starcade. Combined with the return of the War Games this past weekend at the NXT Takeover event, this is a good time to be a wrestling fan, especially an old school fan of the NWA / WCW. I’m in a good mood. Let’s do this…

1. There are rumors that NXT will use WarGames as an annual event, similar to how WWE uses Hell in a Cell as an annual event; this is a horrible idea.

FICTION: While less is more and I’d rather see WarGames used rarely instead of multiple times a year, as Hell In A Cell is, if WWE was to decide to make it an annual event, so be it. I enjoyed seeing the return this past weekend, even with the changes that WWE made to the original concept and I’m sure I’d enjoy watching it again whenever the match is used. With a classic match like WarGames, it’s hard to go wrong.

2. The Velveteen Dream came out of Survivor Series weekend as the biggest winner.

FICTION: The “biggest winner”? Nah, I don’t think so. He had a fantastic match with Aleister Black and Dream is definitely on the pathway to bigger and better things as a result of it, but so many people had great showings and came out as “winners” this weekend. Men like Adam Cole, Andrade Almas, AJ Styles, Braun Strowman, etc. A lot of careers got the hard push this weekend and not just Dream. He’s just one of many.

3. Survivor Series was a better show than NXT Takeover: WarGames.

FICTION: Both shows were great and had solid cards, amazing action and good advances to the storylines. Both shows left us wanting more. I’ll give NXT the edge (just barely) because it wasn’t quite as long and had the WarGames match, but I can’t honestly say that one or the other was better. Flip a coin and you’re right. A great weekend for wrestling fans and WWE fans too.

4. You are excited for the main roster call ups of Ruby Riot, Mandy Rose, Sonya Deville, Sarah Logan and Live Morgan.

FICTION: While I’m happy to see these women come up to the main roster, along with the return of Paige, it just kind of overcrowds an already crowded and confusing division. Six women at one time is way too much to take it and for the fans to invest their time and emotion into and still be fair to the talents. I am interested to see how this all develops and what the game plan is, but I’m scared that the women already on the main roster, the ones I know and like and have invested my time and emotions into, will just be now lost in the shuffle.

5. You would rather see Triple H vs. Braun Strowman than Triple H vs. Kurt Angle at WrestleMania.

FACT: Let HHH face (and job to) Braun and let Kurt face his two-faced traitorous “son” Jason Jordan and I’ll be happy.

6. WWE will run a women’s Royal Rumble in 2018.

FACT: With close to twenty women now on the main roster, plus the fact that the women are already doing every other type of match that the men have been doing, such as “Money In The Bank” and “Hell In A Cell”, I don’t see how WWE can not have this happen. The women have proven their spot and earned the chance to have their own Rumble and WWE will be dropping the ball big time if they don’t come through on this. And for those who say that having two Rumble matches on one card is too much, there’s a solution to that as well. WWE has their own network, right? The weekend before the Royal Rumble, or even the weekend after, run a special event on the Network and use it for the Women’s Rumble match. Or devote an episode of RAW or Smackdown Live and feature the women there. Regardless of how it’s done, it does need to be and most likely will be done.

And there you go. That’s definitely all for me this morning. I’m going back to bed now. Thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, questions and any and all feedback is welcome and appreciated. Until the next time, take it easy and have a great one.

Wrestling Fact or Fiction – November 12, 2017

Tossing Salt Presents:
Wrestling Fact or Fiction
November 12, 2017

It’s Sunday night and time to do a little more of that Fact or Fiction and this time, it’s about the world’s greatest sport. Are you ready to rassle? The questions come from my friends over at 411mania.com/wrestling. And the rest, that’s just little ol’ me. Let’s do this…

1. AJ Styles beating Jinder Mahal for the WWE Title was absolutely the right call.

FACT: While I was actually looking forward to seeing Jinder and Brock go head to head, I can see the logic and business sense kicking in here and for a big event like the Survivor Series, the WWE wants the best matches possible and AJ versus Brock is one of those dream matches that everyone wants to see. The bottom line is that WWE wants to get subscribers for the Network and the chance to see Brock and AJ go at it will attract more new customers than watching Brock and Jinder fight. I hope that eventually, Jinder gets another run with the WWE title. He has, in my opinion, done an excellent job as the WWE Champion and has risen to the challenge, much like JBL did back in the day. In fact, Jinder reminds me of a modern day JBL. So for now, we’ll get AJ and Brock at Survivor Series and that’s the right move… for now. And eventually, we’ll have Jinder with the title again to prove what I already know, that he’s a deserving man to be the champ.

2. Sheamus & Cesaro winning the Raw tag team titles ahead of Survivor Series was a good move.

FACT: A good move for two reasons. Sheamus and Cesaro are the better team in my opinion and will represent RAW better in the match against the Usos. I don’t see Ambrose and Seth as a team, despite that whole SHIELD thing. They’ve established themselves as main event singles stars now and that’s where their focus should be. So let a real “tag team” in Ceasaro and Sheamus hold the belts and represent RAW in the tag team match and let Ambrose, Seth and Roman, aka “The Shield”, take on the New Day in a big bonus match. Works for everyone.

3. NJPW booking Chris Jericho vs. Kenny Omega will be huge for their US expansion plans.

FACT: I don’t know exactly how this will help New Japan espand into States, but it’s a big match of epic proportion and a big move for New Japan to get a star the caliber of Jericho to work their event. Kenny Omega versus Jericho should be one helluva match and go a great way towards cementing the already excellent reputation of Omega as a true, world-wide star. And Jericho, it’s just a quick payday and chance to show why he’s lasted so long and still performs so well as he warms up for his eventual WWE return. This is another case where everyone involved wins.

4. How excited are you for Paige’s WWE return?

On a scale of 1-10, I’ll go with a solid 7. Paige is a good wrestler, a young woman with a lot of talent and a chance to have a great “redemption story” (and wrestling fans love those!). It’ll be interesting to see what kind of reaction she gets when she does come back, but I think she will be a solid addition to whatever roster she appears on and this might be the chance for her to really shine and be a major star. I wish her nothing but the best and am looking forward to seeing her back in the WWE ring.

5. WWE is reportedly looking to bring Hideo Itami and Rockstar Spud to 205 Live. These would both be good moves.

FICTION: Nothing against KENTA, aka Itami and Spud, but at 205 Live, they’ll be lost in the shuffle and I doubt that they’ll really be able to make any kind of real impact. I expect that we’ll be seeing Itami go back to Japan when his contract expires. As for Spud, he’s a good talent with good skills, but will he stand out and be able to shine in the 205 Live scene? I hope so, but I doubt it.

6. As of today, you are more excited for NXT Takeover: WarGames than Survivor Series.

FICTION: I am looking forward to NXT Takeover: Wargames a great deal and I’m sure that it will be an amazing and fantastic show, but WWE has really loadedup and stacked the Survivor Series event and it’s going to be one helluva show. They have several matches on track, such as Miz versus Corbin and Brock versus AJ, that I actually want to see. Plus there are three traditional Survivor Series matches that I’m interested in and my new beloved, Asuka (sorry Ivory) and I think she’ll look great in the Women’s match. So much going on that I want to see. I’ll watch NXT for sure, but this weekend, for me anyhow, is still all about the Survivor Series. NXT is the warm-up act and Survivor Series is the main event.

And there you go. Time to close this up, but give me your feedback. What do you think? Comments, thoughts and questions are all welcome. And now, I’m going to bed. I don’t feel good. Have a great night and I’ll see you later.

Music Fact or Fiction – November 5, 2017

Tossing Salt Presents:
Music Fact or Fiction
November 5, 2017

Are you ready for some of that “Fact or Fiction”, music style? Let’s just do this. The questions come from my friends over at 411mania.com/music. And the rest, it’s all me baby!

1. Jay-Z is deserving of the Grammys’ ‘Salute to Industry Icons’ Award

FACT: I’m not sure exactly what the whole “Salute to Industry Icons” awards is about because it sounds like one of those awards that producers make up just to snag a big star to come to the show and get ratings. But regardless, I’ll agree that even though I’m not a fan of Jay-Z, he’s a well respected name in the music industry and has done pretty much everything there is to do in that business. So yeah, if he’s getting this made-up award so he will appear at the Grammy’s, so be it. It’s cool!

2. Snoop Dogg is going too far in his references to the President’s death.

FACT: I get what he’s doing, pushing the envelope and playing up to the anti-Trumpers to sell records and get press. It’s cool, but it’s getting kind of old too and while he has every right to be as political as he wants and say what he wants, short of actually threatening to kill the President, I have every right to not listen to his music, buy his records or watch his new TV show, not that I do or was planning to anyhow. He does need to tone it down a bit though as it’s gone a bit over-the-top from political statements to just a bad and tasteless joke… kind of like Snoop actually.

3. You have no interest in a Cardi B and Offset wedding special.

FACT: I have no idea who these people are and could care less. If they’re getting married, so be it and congratulations to them, but I’m not planning on watching any specials about it. Hell, I don’t do weddings anyhow.

4. Chance the Rapper will do well hosting SNL this month.

FACT: Wasn’t he in a commercial for Kit Kats? He’ll do okay and probably be as entertaining as the rest of the SNL cast. The bar isn’t very high these days so he won’t have to be great. Just be there and cut the fool a bit and he’ll be okay.

4. The new Gorillaz track ‘Garage Palace’ was enjoyable.

FACT: I went and I listened and I didn’t hate it. I actually kind of found my head moving around to the beat and it was catchy enough to actually keep my attention. I guess that counts as enjoyable.

5. News of a possible new NERD track is exciting.

FICTION: If you say it is, then it might be, but I’ve never heard of them except for that they’re associated with Pharell in some way. Not a big fan of his so I probably won’t care one way or the other.

And there you go. A little short this month and I apologize for my lack of knowledge or somewhat cynical answers this week, but I don’t write the questions and who the hell are these people anyhow? Ask about Waylon or Alice or even Mod Son and I’ll talk your ears off. But Cardi B? Offset? Snoopy Dogg Dogg? Give me a freakin’ break. Comments, thoughts, questions and feedback is welcome and appreciated. And I’m out of here. Until the next time, take care.
