Grown Up Survey…

Grown-Up Survey
January 14, 2018
DougMaynard.com

Found this on Facebook and just had to do it. Enjoy!

FINALLY, an adult version. Tired of those surveys made by high school kids? Here are 29 questions for Grown Ups!!

1. What bill do you hate paying the most?

No bills are fun to pay, but the one that annoys me most is the water bill since the City of Laurinburg decided to destroy the Barrett Building to build their multi-million dollar Taj Mahal and now, when we go there to pay our bills, we have to look at that mess that was once a grand and noble old house, destroyed to satisfy the egos of five power-hungry politicians. Oh wait, we can’t go through the drive-thru anymore either since that has been discontinued due to “safety issues” with the construction of the new elite gathering hole. So we get a building that no one wants, that our taxes and water bills will go up to pay for and inconvenience of having to go inside at a place where there is limited parking (due to the new construction of the City Hall castle) when there was a quick and easy drive-thru for the past twenty-plus years. This town sucks!

2. When was the last time you had a romantic dinner?

I honestly don’t remember. I need a boyfriend / good man in my life.

3. What do you really want to be doing right now?

Taking a shower, eating my breakfast and snuggling up to a good sexy man watching Netflix or a movie. Any guys wanna come snuggle?

4. How many colleges did you attend?

One

5. Why did you choose the shirt you have on now?

It was on top of my pile of clothes and clean.

6. Thoughts on gas prices
The gas costs too damn much.

7. First thought when the alarm goes off in the morning?

Uuugh! I have to pee. What time is it? Can I sleep for a few more minutes? Go away damn cat!

8. Last thought you have before you go to bed?

I hope this phone doesn’t go off. Do I need to pee?

9. Do you miss being a child?

Sometimes, but not really..

10. What errand/chore do you despise?

Emptying the compost and cleaning out the litter box.

13. Favorite lunch meat?

Hamburger… that’s a meat, right?

14. What do you get every time at Trader Joe’s?

What is Trader Joe’s? Never heard of it, never been there and have not a clue as to why this question is even here.

15. Beach or lake?

Beach

16. Is marriage overrated?

Nope. I think it’s the ultimate sign of love and commitment between two people and if given the work and respect it needs, can be and is a wonderful thing.

17. Ever crashed your vehicle?

Yep. Flipped my car and rolled it once. Ate up a sign once to avoid smashing into a car that slammed on brakes. Took out a row of mailboxes once. And got clipped in the back of my truck one time and spinned around a few times.

18. Strangest place you’ve brushed your teeth?

Probably while riding down the highway driving my station wagon.

19. Somewhere you’ve never been but want to go?

Europe to visit the WWII historical spots and travel across several countries. Also, the Grand Old Opry in Nashville, TN. And Wrestlemania too, of course.

20. At this point in your life would you want to start a new career?

Not really, but it would depend on the career and the opportunity.

21. Do you own your own house?

Nope, but my Mom does so I’m pretty much set.

22. Do you have a go-to person?

It depends on the nature of the situation as to who I would contact or go to if something goes wrong, but for the most part, I’ve learned that the only person I can truly depend upon is myself. Everyone else will end up letting you down.

23. Are you where you want to be in life?

Nope, but I’m better than I was so no complaints.

24. Growing up, what were your favorite cartoons?

Super Friends, Laff-A-Lympics, Bugs Bunny / Road Runner Show, etc.

25. What do you think has changed about you since you were a teenager?

My temper is better, I think before I act now and I’m much more responsible. And on the other side of it, I’m much less outgoing and way more reserved. And not nearly as sociable.

26. Looking back at high school were they the best years of your life?

Nope

27. Are there times you still feel like a kid?

Absolutely. My bro and his mini-me keep me young.

28. Did you have a pager?

Yep, back in the day…

29. Were you the type of kid you want your kids to hang out with?

Probably not. I wasn’t a bad kid really, but I was a bit of a weirdo sometimes… lol

And there you go.  Have a great one.

New Year – New Me: Resolutions For 2018

New Year – New Me:
Resolutions For 2018
January 1, 2018
DougMaynard.com

Good morning and welcome to 2018, a brand new year and a brand new beginning, not only for DougMaynard.com, my site, but for the man himself, aka “Me!”. Don’t you hate that, how people always start off the new year with all sorts of promises and proclamations about this and that and how since the last number for the date has changed, all of a sudden it’s a new start and they’re a different person and blah, blah, blah! I hate it too. Well, hate is a strong word, but it does get kind of annoying. I would never, never, ever do that.

Or would I?

Since I have a little time to kill before I head out to do my volunteer stuff, I realized that this would be a great time to see how hypocritical I can be and make a few New Year resolutions. It’s the start of a new life, a new beginning, etc. Hell, it’s just stuff that I know I need to change and be better with, but for whatever reason, mainly my procrastination, mixed with my anxieties and fear of all things new and different, keep me from doing. Maybe a little laziness too, but I’m not admitting to that part of it. I don’t have time to be lazy. I need a freakin’ nap.

So with all of that in mind, what I think I’m going to do here is list a few changes that I’d like to make in my life and maybe, just maybe (naughty girls need love too!) – Sorry, I just had a Samantha Fox flashback moment. I had her poster on my bedroom wall. I’m gay. That tells you just how hot she was back in the day. Not quite George Michael, during his WHAM! days, but still, she was a looker. Now, what was I saying?

Oh yeah, I’m going to list a few resolutions for the new year, the year of our God, 2018. Some are serious. Some are not. Some, I shall strive and work hard to achieve and accomplish. Some, I shall blow off, something I’ve been told I’m quite accomplished at, and within the next forty-eight hours, they shall be naught but a faded memory. That sounds really bad, doesn’t it? I’m going to keep all of these and accomplish each and every one of these in the following year. I am determined. I am proud. I am woman – hear me roar! Hmmmm… forget about that last one. I’m all man and proud of it. Ask your ex-boyfriend. He knows.

And to put some controls in place and to keep this from being all over the place (too late), I’m going with a tried and true established format. We’re talking “Shades of David Letterman” Top Ten style. Yes, a “Top Ten List!”. And you probably thought I was going to go with doing the Dougie, didn’t you? Nah, despite the name, I’m far more of an “Electric Slide” type of guy. Let’s do this and to really make it true and original…

From the home office in New Haven, CT…

Top Ten Dougie Resolutions For 2018…

10. Finish the stories I have started writing and are sitting alone and neglected on my computer. The Avengers, Dr. Druid, The characters from Dark Shadows, the covert group known as the new “Freedom Force”, Cloak and Dagger and so many more, will be highly appreciative. They want their stories told and I need to finish up and do it.

9. Lose weight. This is one that everyone has and I’m not an exception. I’m not too bad right now, running about 230, but I need to get rid of this belly. Hell, a few years ago, I was up to 338 lbs and thanks to the miracle of diabetes, I lost most of that. I’m not quite an elder version of Taylor Lautner yet (yum), but I’m trying. I want to lose and I’ll work on that, but so long as I don’t gain, I won’t complain either.

8. Find someone to love. Sex is easy, especially with stuff like Meet Me and other social media, but I don’t care about sex. I want someone to trust, respect, be with, hold, talk to and to fill the emptiness and major void that is in my heart. I hate being alone, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to settle. I’ve done enough of that over the years and when I look back, oh vey! I’ve met some amazing people and have some great stories I could tell, but that’s not what I need or want. I’m too old for that kind of crap. Somewhere out there, be it man or woman (but preferably man), my soul mate is waiting. And this year, I’m going to find him.

7. Clean my room. It’s not dirty per say, but a little “lived in” and messy, yes, it is. I have books everywhere and other items I’ve picked up over the years and well, my pack-rat nature is taking up a lot of space. I need to just go in there, box up the books and donate them to Habitat, put my old notebooks and magazines in the attic (or the spare bedroom) and turn my room into a bedroom again. I also need to clean out my desk, but I think that just setting it on fire might work better.

6. Get out of the house & socialize. If it was up to me, I probably would never leave the house at all, except to work and maybe go grocery shopping when the food supplies get low. It’s not that I don’t like people, but my anxieties get all worked up at the very idea of having to talk to people, make conversation, be sociable, etc. Now I understand why I used to drink so much. It was my crutch and made interaction with others easier and enjoyable. Now I just go in there, exposed and raw, for everyone to see and it’s scary. Some people can do it. I get anxious going to get the mail or trying to order a pizza over the phone. But I used to have friends. I used to be very sociable and part of the group. I was always doing something and was on the go. I was happy. I need to be happy again and staying here in the house, hiding from the world isn’t going to do it. I need to get out more and just be me. And I will.

5. Write the “Tossing Salt – Worldwide News” column again. I can’t remember the last time I wrote a full column. It’s been a while. I’ve gotten spoiled by doing the site here, with either shorter wrestling pieces, aka the “Fact or Fiction” or the “Q&A’s”, but I haven’t been focused on a long, real and insightful wrestling column in quite a while. You should always dance the the one who brought you to the dance and for me, it was pro wrestling and “Tossing Salt”. I’ve been neglectful and distracted. I need to change that.

4. Take better care of myself. Now that I finally have insurance, I’ve already taken the first steps with regular Doctor appointments and treatment for my diabetes, as well as medication for my cholesterol and blood pressure. The next steps are getting my eyes fixed and the dentist. I plan on being around for a long, long time to come and I need to be in peak condition if I’m going to be here, right? So I’m working on that.

3. Start returning phone calls and text messages promptly. I am the world’s worst about this and it’s not because I don’t want to talk to anyone because I actually do, but the thought of speaking on the phone, even to someone that I love and respect and enjoy talking to, just puts my nerves into a frenzy. Once we start talking, I’m okay, but the build plays havoc with my mind. And then, if I’ve delayed a call or returning a message already, there is that anxiety that adds on to the original anxiety and the delay and procrastination just gets longer and stronger. I’m better than this though and the people who reach out to me deserve better than this.

2. Go to a concert / live wrestling show. I started thinking about it and I love live music. I love live wrestling events. And it’s been far too long since I’ve attended or been to either. That will change this year. Even if it’s just a local Indy wrestling show (Hey Kipper… that’s a hint, my friend) or someone singing over at St. Andrews University… or even the Elvis impersonater that performs each week at Captain Larry’s… it doesn’t matter. I need to start getting out again and events like these will be a great way to start.

1. Be happy. Whatever it takes, whatever I have to do, I am tired of being sad and depressed and all funky like a monkey. I’m Dougie and this is my world. It’s going to be a good and happy place for me, my brother, my friends and whoever else wants to tag along for the ride. I used to be “the Man!”. I will be “the Man” again. And 2018, it’s a great time to start. ‘Nuff said!

And there you go. My resolutions for the upcoming 525, 600 minutes of my life. I might not accomplish them all, but at least I’m going to give it a try. And what more can one ask for, right?

And with that, I’m closing this up and putting baby to bed. Time to head out and do that “Food Lion” thing I do each Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Thank you for reading. Thoughts, comments and any suggestions about ways to make this life a better one are welcome and appreciated. And I will reply. Until the next time, stay warm and safe. I’ll catch you later. Happy New Year!

Honesty Counts Survey – Dejavu Edition…
December 26, 2012 at 11:15am

Ok, I found this old survey I took over at MySpace (remember that place) back on June 7, 2006. And I decided to take it again today. I’m bored and waiting on my sister. Some answers remain the same and others… do not. So… here you go.

Updated Survey – Today… lol

Flashback: 100 Fun Questions On A Stick – December 15, 2011

From six years ago today….

100 Fun Questions On A Stick: December 15, 2011

100 Fun Questions On A Stick

1. Do you sleep with your closet doors open or closed?
They’re closed. There’s a ton of clothes I don’t wear and other stuff I don’t use anymore crammed in there and I use the closet for storage to hold this stuff until I get motivated enough to trash it all or have a great yard sale or possbibly expand my wardrobe from the usual dozen or so items I actually like to wear.

2. Do you take the shampoos and conditioner bottles from hotel?
The cheap ass dirt motels I usually stay at (Pine Acres Lodge) doesn’t provide them. I need to move to a higher standard of hotels.

3. Do you sleep with your sheets tucked in or out?
I sleep on top of the sheets, which are tucked in. I’m under the comforters and blankets, but the sheets are rarely touched or ruffled. And I’m still snug as a bug in a rug.

4. Have you ever stolen a street sign before?
Hmmm… Have the statue of limitations expired yet? I think so, so the answer would be… maybe…. lol.

5. Do you like to use post-it notes?
I do use them on occasion, but my big thing is using index cards, scribbling notes on them and then tossing them when I’m through. It works for me.

6. Do you cut out coupons but then never use them?
Nope – I rarely cut out coupons unless its for something very special or maybe Arby’s or Burger King. And then I forget about them, they expire, and I’m a sad, sad panda.

7. Would you rather be attacked by a big bear or a swarm of a bees?
Probably a bear. He’d be named Fred… lol.

8. Do you have freckles?
NO!

9. Do you always smile for pictures?
Nope – the few pictures that have me smiling are few and far between. I am good for a smirk or sneer on occasion though.

10. What is your biggest pet peeve?
People! ‘Nuff said!

11. Do you ever count your steps when you walk?
Nah, that would get too confusing after a while.

12. Have you ever peed in the woods?

Either living room or family room – it depends on the house actually.

92. Do you want to get married?
I would love to get married, so long as it’s to the right person. Unfortunately, I can’t get married because NC does not allow same-sex marriages and the person I love and want to spend the rest of my life just happens to be another guy. So out-dated laws and politicians that are afraid to offend the religious right control what I can and can’t do and deny me of my happiness, my right to liberty and the pursuit of happiness and the opportunity to enter a legally binding committment, under the eyes of God (who loves all of us, gay or straight) with my soul-mate. Maybe one day it will happen. Who knows? I hope so.

Not married – change the laws first!

94. Who was your HS crush?

Black, Purple and Hot Pink

99. Do you miss anyone right now?
I miss a lot of people in different ways for different reasons. I miss Cal because I love him. I miss Matt and Theresa because they’re my friends and I just want to see them and hang out with them again. I miss Danny (yes, I admit it) for the good sex. I miss Michael because he’s my lil’ brother and we ended things in a bad way. I miss Brent and Russ because they’re just so awesome and bring out the best in me and make me a better person. And I could go on and on and on. Kenneth, Brian, Marshall, Tatitia, Chris B., etc. So many good and amazing wonderful people in my life and as of late, I’ve become more and more isolated and apart from them. I don’t like it and I wish things were different and could change.

Of course, the word is “bird”. Bird is the word!

@00 never too old for milk and cookies

Flashback: Wrestling Survey – December 10, 2011

I found this old wrestling survey I took way back six years ago… Enjoy!

Flashback:  Wrestling Survey – December 10, 2011
1.How long have you been a Wrestling Fan?

For as long as I can remember. My older brothers and sisters used to take to me to see the weekly live shows at the Dorton Arena in Raleigh, NC when I was barely able to walk and I grew up watching stars like Wahoo McDaniel, Ric Flair, Blackjack Mulligan, Ivan Koloff, Paul Jones, The Andersons and so many others each and every week. And I was hooked from day one. That’s been well over forty years now.

2.What got you into Wrestling?

I think I answered that in the last question.

3.What was the first Wrestling match you saw?
I have no idea. But the first match I can remember seeing live that really stood out and made a major impression in my youthful mind was the legendary Brute Benard (look him up) against “The Dean Of Professional Wrestling” Johnny Weaver, in Raleigh, NC at one of the Tuesday night shows. I think I was maybe five years old.

4.Who is your favorite Wrestler?
Of all time or current active stars? Of all time, it would be Harley Race, Ric Flair,. Blackjack Mulligan, The Masked Superstar, Jamie Noble, Larry Zbyszko and Arn Anderson. Of current wrestling stars, the top guys on my list would be CM Punk, The Miz, Juventud Guerrera, Ethan Storm and a local Indy Tag Team called BD Productions. And a man named Hunter Holtzclaw who is just too damn sexy for words to describe. I want to rock his world!.

5.What is your favorite Wrestling Company?

I grew up with the NWA and Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling (Jim Crockett Promotions), but unfortunately, the NWA is a shell of what it once was and Crockett is out of business. So be default (mainly because it’s the only true big time international company left), the WWE gets the nod. Also, a small but damn good group from here in North Carolina called “American Championship Wrestling”.

6.Favorite Wrestling Tag Team|Faction|Stable?

My favorite tag team of all time is The Midnight Express (Eaton and Lane). My favorite faction is the infamous Four Horsemen, but I do have to admit a soft spot for The Dangerous Alliance as well.

7.Who is your favorite Female of Wrestling?

Anyone who knows the slightest thing about me already knows the answer to this one. Lisa “Ivory” Moretti, my one true love and beloved. No one else even comes close.

8.What’s your favorite Wrestling finisher?

Either the claw (as used by Baron Von Raschke or Blackjack Mulligan) or the Cobra (as used by Masked Superstar).

9.How often do you watch Wrestling shows?

Every Monday night for sure and occasionally on Thursday and Friday for Impact and Smackdown if there’s nothing better to do.

10.What is the greatest wrestling match you’ve seen?

I don’t know if it’s the greatest, but my favorite match of all time came from a Clash of the Champions event and pitted The Midnight Express (Eaton and Lane), accompanied by Jim Cornette against The Horsemen (Ric Flair & Barry Windham), who were accompanied by J.J. Dillion. After that, my other favorite match was on WCW Saturday Night with Larry Zbyszko taking on Lord Steven Regal for the WCW TV Title.

11.Favorite match stipulation?

I’m not a big fan of gimmicks or crazy stipulations so I’ll go for something simple and to the point – how about a good old fashioned street fight.

12.Have you ever been to a live Wrestling event?

I’ve been to literally hundreds of Indy wrestling events and several WCW shows back in the 90’s. I have yet to make it to a live WWE or TNA event though so that’s on my future agenda.

13.What is your favorite wrestling manager?

Of all time, it’s got to be Gary Hart. The man just did an amazing job. And following closely behind Hart would be Woman (Nancy Benoit), Sir Oliver Humperdink and Jim Cornette.

14.If you were a manager, who would be your top star?

If I had the chance to be a wrestling manager for the WWE and could bring in who I want for my stable (which I wouild model after the Dangerous Alliance, it would be Charlie Haas & Shelton Benjamin, Chris Masters, Ethan Storm, Mike Knox and Lisa “Ivory” Moretti as my co-manager.

15.Did you want to be a wrestler when you grew up?

I wanted to be either a wrestler or a writer. And as I got older, I found a great compromise. I write about wrestling. So there you go.

And there you go…

Ubuntu~
