Wrestling Fact Or Fiction
November 21, 2013
It’s peanut butter and jelly time. Nope, it’s not! It’s actually time for that “Fact or Fiction” thing I like to do. The questions come from 411mania.com/wrestling. The answers are mine. ‘Nuff said! Let’s do this…
1. Overall, you are disappointed with the build to the WWE Survivor Series PPV.
FACT: The WWE has been kind of slack with the build for all their PPV’s as of late, including this one. As of Monday, there were only three matches announced in advance and then some hot-shotting of matches on RAW and coming up on Smackdown to round out the card. That’s no way to build excitement and anticipation for a major wrestling show that you want fans to dish out $45 to $55 bucks to purchase. The show looks to be fairly solid, but it’s nothing special and the build has sucked.
2. Since the WWE released Chris Hero with him never appearing on WWE TV (Raw/Smackdown), TNA should take a shot and bring him in.
FACT: Chris Hero is a helluva talent and I personally feel that the WWE made a major mistake in letting him go. He would be a great fit in the Daniel Bryan / CM Punk / Shield / Wyatt Family era of WWE TV and could really be a major breakout star if given the chance. So let WWE’s mistake and loss be TNA’s gain. Chris Hero versus Austin Aries or Hero versus Daniels = money and great matches. I hope TNA takes advantage and makes an attempt to bring Hero into their company.
3. With news that she was recently at the WWE Performance Center, Mickie James would be a welcomed addition to the WWE Divas Division.
FACT: She’s a name talent, she’s great looking and she can actually wrestle. Hopefully, Mickie will be able to work out some kind of deal with the WWE and keep her music / video career alive and still come back. That would be a great help for the Divas division of the company.
4. A potential Ryback vs. Brock Lesnar feud is not a good idea.
FICTION: It could actually be a good idea and fun feud because there’s a reason for it. Paul Heyman fired Ryback from his team and Ryback wants revenge. Brock is Heyman’s main guy and thus, Brock has a legit reason to go after Ryback, to protect his mouth-piece and mentor. It could be a nice little filler-type of feud to help rebuild the damage that Ryback’s character has suffered with the bad booking / wrestling, etc. and it would give Brock a chance to match up against someone who’s similar in strength and style. It could be very good or very bad, but I think Brock could really help Ryback step up his game and get better so why the heck not?
5. It is a BAD idea that WWE is giving talents a chance to erase a wellness strike from their records.
FICTION: No one wants to see anyone lose their job or lose their career over something stupid, so why not give them a chance to make things right or at least better. With all the stuff involved in getting that strike expunged from the record, it’s pretty obvious that the person would have to be totally dedicated and serious about being clean and making things right. If they’re willing to go through all the hoops and ladders to get things better, more power to them and it should be encouraged.
6. With TNA running less PPVs, you like the promotion running specialized Impact episodes like this week’s “Turning Point” edition of the show.
FACT: Specialized shows give everyone a target and purpose to work towards and give the fans something different to look forward to. They’re good!
7. While multiple DVDs on the subject have been produced, you are interested in ESPN producing a 30 For 30 program focusing on the Von Erich family.
FACT: ESPN will probably be more detailed and unbiased than what we’ve seen so far. They don’t have a dog in the race so they’re more likely to look at everything Von Erich from more angles and be more straight up. I’ve enjoyed the things they’ve done so far and I’m thinking that this piece will probably be good as well.
8. AAA should do everything in their power to bringing Jim Ross to do their English commentary.
FICTION: If Jim Ross isn’t doing TNA or ROH, I doubt that he’s interested in moving to Mexico. Ross is a great guy to have on your team, but calling a bunch of lucha matches just doesn’t seem to me what Ross needs to be doing at this point and time in his career. AAA needs to concentrate on making AAA as good as they can and Ross seems to be focusing on doing what’s best for him and his family and career and I can’t see the two being related to each other at this point and time.
And that’s all for now. I’m gone.
