WWE Hell In A Cell 2016: Thoughts and Predictions…

WWE Hell In A Cell 2016: Thoughts and Predictions
Doug Maynard
October 29, 2016

We are just a little over a day away from the WWE Raw exclusive pay-per-view presentation, live on the WWE Network, known as WWE Hell In A Cell. Eight matches have been announced for this event including the first ever Women’s Hell In A Cell match, as well as matches for the WWE Universal, WWE United States, WWE Raw Tag Team and WWE Cruiserweight Championships. It’s a stacked card and looks like it should be one helluva show. And of course, what that means is that it’s time to break out the Crystal Ball and do that prediction thing. Yeppers, my friends… that’s why we’re here. So with a little channeling of Jeanne Dixon, Sister Cleo and Gary Spivey, let’s see how well I can look ahead and see the future. It’s WWE Hell In A Cell and it’s Sunday night. And here is who I think will win each match and why. Let’s do this…

WWE Universal champion Kevin Owens vs. Seth Rollins inside Hell in A Cell.

I’m expecting Jericho to get involved in some way, shape or form. It also wouldn’t surprise me to see Triple H make a return and get involved. This match will be brutal and stiff and both Owens and Seth will give 150%, sacrificing their bodies for our amusement. Seth is slowly making the baby-face turn, but he’s not there yet. Not entirely. Owens is just awesome and RAW has truly become the Kevin Owens (and Chris Jericho) show in more ways than one. It’s not time to switch the championship yet. I think Owens has only just started to show what he can do as the “longest running WWE Universal Champion of all time”. Just like the Beatles, we’ll see Kevin get by with a little help from his friends.

Winner and STILL WWE Universal Champion: Kevin Owens

WWE Raw Women’s champion Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte inside Hell in A Cell.

Two of the best female wrestlers going today taking on the steel cage and making history as they fight to determine who will be the WWE Raw Women’s Champion. I don’t think this is going to be a great match, but it won’t be from lack of effort by Sasha or Charlotte. These two women are incredible athletes and damn good wrestlers that can more than hold their own against any man or men. Sasha is the champion, but so far, her title reign has been less than impressive. Charlotte, as her father did before her for so many years, casts a wide shadow that the other ladies of the WWE seem to pale in comparison. I think there will be at least one or two really big high-spots to give the fans a reason to do their “holy crap” chants. And when the smoke settles, the “Queen” will be champion once more.

Winner and NEW WWE RAW Women’s Champion: Charlotte Flair

WWE United States champion Roman Reigns vs. Rusev (with Lana) inside Hell in A Cell.

The fans still don’t like Roman. Rusev is a beast and honestly, Reigns has been more of a heel in this feud (in my opinion) than Rusev. I think we’ll see one helluva match and I’m going for a title change here. Rusev crush and Rusev win.

Winner and NEW WWE United States Champion: Rusev (w/ Lana)

WWE Raw Tag Team champions The New Day vs. Sheamus & Cesaro.

The New Day don’t need the belts and to be honest, their act is starting to get stale. They need a major change in their routine and going from Champions to challengers may be just the way to do it. And if Sheamus and Cesaro can’t win the belts together as a team, then what was the point for this whole storyline anyhow? I’m looking for some new “teammates who can’t get along” champions.

Winners: Matt Hardy and MVP… ooops, my bad… New RAW Tag Team Champions: Sheamus and Cesaro

WWE Cruiserweight champion TJ Perkins vs. Brian Kendrick.

If Kendrick doesn’t win, we riot. Actually, I don’t think he will… yet. Kendrick is getting desperate so let’s twist the knife just a few more times and do the title change a little further down the line, perhaps at the Survivor Series. After a fast paced and great match, the Champ keeps the belt.

Winner and STILL WWE Cruiserweight Champion: TJ Perkins

Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows vs. Enzo Amore & Big Cass.

The WWE doesn’t know how to use Anderson and Gallows properly. They’d be better off working on Smackdown as the “Arn and Tully” to AJ Styles “Flair” as part of “The Club”. Enzo and Cass don’t need to win here. They’re over. These teams need to do something big and make an impact to get things started again. Look for Anderson and Gallows to dominate, devastate and kick ass. Look for Enzo and Cass to get big pops. And I think we’ll see an “injury” to Enzo before the night is done.

Winners by DQ: Enzo and Big Cass

Bayley vs. Dana Brooke

Bayley has really stalled since coming to the main roster. Dana is… well, I don’t even know. I’m not impressed by her all that much honestly and this match does nothing for me. Bayley needs a jump-start to get things moving again. This may be what happens.

Winner: Bayley

Cedric Alexander, Lince Dorado, & Sin Cara vs. Drew Gulak, Tony Nese, & Ariya Daivari

The Cruiserweights get to fly and show off what makes them special. I would personally prefer to see the Daivari team get the win. I was once friends with Ariya back on MySpace and he’s a cool dude. But this will probably kick off the show and they want the fans to be happy so look for Sin Cara and friends to get the win. Cedric Alexander is impressive in that ring too. These guys are no Juvi or Jamie Noble, but they still surely have it going on and this should be a good match.

Winners: Cedric Alexander, Lince Dorado and Sin Cara

And that’s it. Am I right? Am I wrong? Am I getting ready to go to work? For all of those questions, “YES!”. I’m Doug and I’m out of here. Thanks for reading and I’ll catch you later, gators. Have a great one and always stay a fan.

TNA Bound For Glory 2016: Thoughts & Predictions…

TNA BOUND FOR GLORY 2016 Thoughts & Predictions…

To be honest, normally I wouldn’t bother with a TNA PPV prediction column. I don’t watch TNA Impact Wrestling, I don’t get POP TV on my television set, and with the exception of a select few, like the Hardy Boys, Drew McIntyre, Mike Bennett and Maria and Cody, I don’t know enough about most of the TNA talent to really have any strong interest. I do follow Impact Wrestling and the trials and tribulations of TNA via the wrestling sites, but it’s just not my thing. But with all of that being said, today is an extremely big day for TNA and their very future is at stake. Will they survive and continue as a wrestling company or will they, in the words of “Broken” Matt Hardy, be deleted? The company is out of money and is living on borrowed time right now as the principal owners, Dixie Carter, Billy Corgan and a couple of others, fight for control and not for a story-line, but for real. How they managed to scrape up money for the show tonight is a huge mystery and will they be taping TV this week? Who knows? This might be the end… or if deals are made and money is found, it could be a new beginning. Either way, things will never, ever be the same again.

So anyhow, here I am and I have TNA Bound For Glory on the mind. There are six matches advertised, plus the TNA debut of Cody (Rhodes). Let’s talk about the matches and make a few quick predictions.

TNA champion Bobby Lashley vs. EC3: No Holds Barred

Lashley is a tough man, but I’ve never really been able to get into him all that much. This match has been built up really well and should be very entertaining. If the company continues, the best way to go would be have Lashley get the win and allow EC3 to continue the chase. But no one knows what the future lies and if there is any real chance that this will be the last TNA ppv and the last TNA match, I’d rather go with sending the fans home happy and ending on a high note. That means new champion and the TNA built Ethan Carter III, aka EC3 takes home the win. Yeah, let’s go with that.

Winner and NEW TNA Impact! Wrestling World Champion: EC3

Aron Rex vs. Eddie Edwards (replacing the injured Drew Galloway) to crown the first TNA Grand champion.

Having Galloway being replaced by Eddie Edwards really hurts this whole match. Nothing against Edwards, who is a fantastic talent and was a top guy for ROH for a long time, but the rivalry was between the former Damien Sandow and the former Drew McIntyre – not between Rex and Edwards. But injuries happen and can’t be helped so we make due with what we have rather than what we were hoping for. It’ll be a great match and off the charts. I have no doubt about that. And since I’ve heard that Galloway will be there, even though he’s not cleared to compete, I’ll say he gets involved and gives Edwards an assist.

Winner and NEW TNA Grand Champion: Eddie Edwards

TNA Tag Team champions Decay with Rosemary vs. Matt and Jeff Hardy with Reby Sky in The Great War.

This will be wild and crazy and insanity at it’s best. I’d expect to see everyone and anyone get involved including Senor Benjamin, Rosemary, Reby Sky and hell, probably even Maxel. If it was a normal show, I’d say that Decay retains the titles and the wars continue. But since it’s anything but normal (and with Matt Hardy involved, that’s really saying something), I’ll go for another happy ending. “Brother Tag Team Championships, I knew you’d come!”

Winners and NEW TNA Tag Team Champions: “Broken” Matt Hardy and “Brother Nero”…

Moose vs. Mike Bennett.

Mike Bennett is a damn good wrestler and talent. That being said, Moose is making his TNA ppv debut and is being built up as a total monster. Monsters don’t lose in their debut matches. ‘Nuff said!

Winner: Moose

TNA Knockouts champion Maria Kanellis vs. Gail Kim.

It’s going to be a bad day for the Bennett family. Gail Kim is reportedly being inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame tonight as part of the show and unless you’re Ric Flair, a Hall of Famer does not lose a match on the same night they are inducted into the HOF, especially when they’ve done as much and been as loyal to TNA as Gail Kim has. Maria has come a long long ways from her ditzy character in her WWE days and is actually quite talented inside that ring. But tonight, she still takes the plunge as Gail Kim once more takes home the gold.

Winner and NEW TNA Knockouts Champion: Gail Kim

10 Man Gauntlet Match for future TNA championship match of their choosing with Eli Drake, Braxton Sutter, Mahabali Shera, Grado, Tyrus, Jessie Godderz, Robbie E, Baron Dax, Rockstar Spud, and Basile Baraka.

Honestly, I don’t even know who most of these men are. Where is DJ Zema Ion or whatever he calls himself. He’s damn good and HOT! Oh well, whatever. Do you really see any of these folks as future TNA Champions? Really? I’ll go with Tyrus just because I think he really got the shaft when he was in the WWE and they changed him from a monster into a dancing fool. He’s got size and presence and with the proper booking and build, he could be a credible secondary champion or even a short-term transitional champion. It’s all about the booking, folks! Besides, he’s been on Gutfield’s show on Fox a few times and I think that’s cool!

Winner: Tyrus

Cody (Rhodes) makes his TNA debut.

Will he just grab a mic and trash the WWE? Maybe a little, but not too badly I suppose. Will he talk about the legacy of his father in TNA and what he hopes to accomplish? More likely. Will he be interrupted and a brawl of sorts happen, setting up some future programs. Yeppers, that’s the one right there. He’s not “Stardust” anymore. It’s just “Cody” and he’s here to chew bubble gum and kick ass… and he’s all out of gum. It’ll be interesting to see how this all develops as time goes on.

And that’s all for me. Those are my TNA Bound For Glory 2016 Thoughts and Predictions. And is this it for TNA after tonight? We’ll just have to wait and see. I hope not. I’m not a big fan of TNA, but I don’t want to see any wrestling company go under or see any less opportunities for the wrestlers we all know and love who sacrifice their lives and bodies for us each and every time they step into that ring. I’m hoping that this is just a bump in the road and TNA not only rebounds but gets bigger and better as a result. If it does prove to be the end, then thank you to TNA Impact Wrestling and all of the superstars, management, and everyone else involved for so many years of everything. Let’s hope for the best, but be prepared for the worst. And TNA, best of luck to you.

I’m Doug and I think that’s it. Have a great day and I’ll catch you on the flip side.
