Wrestling Q&A – November 30, 2017

Tossing Salt Presents;
Pro Wrestling Q&A
November 30, 2017
DougMaynard.com

I’d like to send a big shout out to my nephew, David Shawn Gantt, who turns 40 today. Happy Birthday Shawn. And now, let’s get busy with some wrestling Q&A. Time is short and so is Hornswoggle. Let’s do this…

Why didn’t Ken Shamrock translate the same way Brock does?

It was a different time when Shamrock was active and MMA / UFC was just beginning to get started as a big thing so the people / fans weren’t as familiar with it as they are today. Plus Brock has two big advantages over Shamrock. Brock has an “it” quality about him that makes him stand out and get attention. Shamrock didn’t really have this in my opinion. And also, Brock has Paul Heyman speaking for him and working as his “advocate” to get him over. Heyman could get over a tuna sandwich if he wanted to. Shamrock only had himself and that just wasn’t enough all the time.

Will Paige end the streak?

Nope. Paul Heyman’s client, Brock Lesnar already did that. And if you’re talking about the “other streak”, with my new beloved, Asuka, the answer is also, in my opinion, no.

Is anyone still a fan of The Fashion Files. They were entertaining at first but now they seem to just drag on and just be boring or cringy.

Didn’t you see the reference last night on Smackdown Live about “beating a dead horse”? They are getting lame and need to be shelved. They served their purpose by helping to get Breezango (and to a lesser degree, The Ascension) over. Now it’s time for the men to quit doing skits and get back into the ring and wrestle.

Who are two of the most underrated indy male and female talents you would like to see get a shot at the performance center?

There’s a man in Georgia who I’m very familiar with who has been wrestling over twenty years, but is still a young man with a tremendous amount of talent, charisma and ability inside that ring by the name of Michael Youngblood. He’s worked with the WWF before back when he first started out, wrestling against guys like Men On A Mission, Scott Hall, Kurt Angle, Rob Conway, etc. And now it’s time to come full circle and do it one more time. Remember that name… Mike Youngblood. If WWE is smart, you’ll be hearing a lot of it in the months and years to come. As for female talents, why they have not yet signed Tessa Blanchard, I have no idea. WWE needs to get that woman signed and moved to Orlando ASAP.

I’m a big fan of ODB, I wonder why she’s never been given a shot in WWE? With WWE needing in-ring vets to help train the next generation, doesn’t she seem like a useful hand?

ODB worked for a long time in OVW so I know that WWE is well aware of her and what she can do in that ring, but my guess is that her character and in-ring-style, which is very unique, just isn’t what WWE is looking for or wants. She’s a good wrestler and I enjoy her work, but she’s not one would expect to see on WWE TV without a lot of major changes to her character and style. She would have been fine for the “Attitude Era”, but in today’s WWE, not so much.

Are there any talents on the main roster that you think need to maybe go the Drew Galloway/Cody Rhodes route and go away for a bit to find something new?

I would say Curtis Axel, but he’s already one of the older men on the roster so that might not work to his advantage because of his age. The same goes for Zack Ryder. They would do well with a chance to be away from the WWE and rebrand themselves as winners rather than the proverbial jobbers they seem to be now. I think Dolph could do that, go out and rebuild himself and his character and come back better than ever. He would probably be my pick. Bo Dallas could do it as well.

Is there any chance of Molly Holly, Candice Michelle, Torrie Wilson, Stacy Keibler or Layla El make it in the WWE Hall of Fame one day?

There is always a chance of any of these ladies being future inductees, but the possibility is higher for some rather than others. Molly is a definite yes in my opinion, as is Candice. Torrie might happen one day when they’re hard up for names, but not very likely. Stacy left the company on bad terms, but has since been down to the Performance Center to help train future stars so if her Hollywood career ever takes off, I think her chances are well. And Layla is popular within the company, but didn’t really do anything of note as a wrestler so I’d place her odds pretty low.

Is there any chance of Jeff Jarrett working with WWE in some way after his rehab?

Anything is possible in the WWE, but this? I’d normally say no, but with the return of folks like Bruno, Bischoff, Warrior, Lex Luger, Cornette, etc, who knows? If a role became available that would work out and be beneficial to both WWE and Jarrett, I think the options are there and it could happen. Never say never in the business of pro wrestling.

Of the following names: which one has the best chance of recovering from WWE’s bad booking and become a top player? Rusev, Dolph Ziggler or Bray Wyatt?

With the right stories and opponents and push from management, none of these careers are unfixable. With Bray, as we’re most likely seeing with “Broken” Matt Hardy, it just takes a good match and good promo and the past is immediately forgotten. Rusev is the same way and it wouldn’t be hard to get him back into the main event picture with just a little bit of good writing and a push (and put him back with Lana). I think Dolph will be the hardest to redeem and save, but all of these men can be fixed and saved. Bray would be the easiest, but none of these guys are lost causes yet.

And there you go. I’m through and now I have to go get ready for work. Thank you for reading. Until the next time, all comments, thoughts and questions are welcome and appreciated. Take care and stay just too sweet. I’m down and gone.

Wrestling Q&A – November 27, 2017

Tossing Salt Presents:
Wrestling Q&A
November 27, 2017
DougMaynard.com

Happy Monday (if there is such a thing) and welcome to the site. I’m just killing some time right now before I can head out to do Food Lion. The new manager says, “1:00”. Oh vey! So what shall we do until then? How about a little wrestling Q&A? I’ve got the answers, the KoK had the questions and I know you fine folks love these things. At least I hope so anyhow. Let’s do this…

1. Will WWE bring back the slammy awards this year?

I wasn’t aware that they had quit doing them? WWE has been doing the Slammys as a part of RAW for the past few years and I suspect that they’ll keep doing it that way for the time being unless they decide to make a special out of it. I doubt that will happen though.

2. People are criticizing Maria Kanellis for getting pregnant so soon after she got hired back. Seriously, this is actually a thing that is happening. Thoughts?

I seriously doubt that Maria planned to get pregnant and most likely, it was just a pleasant surprise. I’m happy for her and anyone who claims to be one of her fans should also be happy for her and her husband. There are some things more important than working for WWE and at least her husband, Mike Bennett did get signed as well so he’s still performing and now has a chance to prove himself without having to depend on his wife as his crutch.

3. Anyone else hope Earl Hebner writes a book??

If Earl is honest and goes into detail about both his WWF and TNA days, I’m sure that it would be a good and interesting read.

4. Would you want to see Ken Shamrock wrestle for the Universal Championship?

Not really, but I’ve never been a big Ken Shamrock fan. A fight between him and Brock could be interesting, but if they ever decide to bring back old UFC guys to take on “The Beast”, I’d rather see Dan Severn, the original “Beast” get the nod. Steve Blackman could be interesting too.

5. Who was a better WWE Champion? “The Big Dog” Roman Reigns or the “Modern Day Maharaja” Jinder Mahal?

Personally, of the two, I prefer Jinder Mahal. I think they pulled the rug from under his reign as the champ way too early and I hope he gets another opportunity soon to represent the company as the WWE Champion.

6. How would you rate The Rock’s wrestling skills. If he wasn’t as charismatic as he is would he still be over?

The Rock was a good wrestler and solid in that ring, but if it wasn’t for that charisma and over-the-top personality, he would never have made it past the Indy scene and would not have had any kind of major success in the WWE or on the national scene. He is capable in the ring, but the “it factor” with Rock is in the charisma, personality and style, not the wrestling.

7. If mic skills and crowd reactions didn’t matter , who would be the top guys in WWE?

Whoever Vince wants to be… Duh!

8. Since Mickie returned last year… If you could choose one other woman from the Attitude/Aggression/Diva eras (1997-2013) to return on a full-time basis who else would you like to see make a comeback?

I would go with my beloved, Ivory, but honestly, she’s in her mid-50’s now and while she looks great, probably couldn’t handle the physical nature of a full time WWE run. She could be brought back as an announcer / commentator though, something she did for a while towards the end of her WWE run and was very good at… just saying. As for a woman to step into that ring and wrestle, my pick would be Lisa Marie Varon, aka “Victoria”. She proved, as “Tara” down in TNA just a couple of years ago, that she can still go in that ring with the best of them. She still looks great too and could really help the current women wrestlers work on their characters and images to go along with the already impressive wrestling skills. She would be a great person for WWE to bring back.

And that’s all of this for now. I guess it’s time to go clean out my car and do a few other things that I’ve been procrastinating on. Comments, thoughts and especially questions for future Q&A’s are especially welcome. Until the next time, have a great one and take care. Talk at you again soon.

Facebook Q&A – November 26, 2017

Facebook Q&A
November 26, 2017
DougMaynard.com

As anyone who has been on this site for more than thirty seconds can tell you, I love to do Q&A’s. I also like to watch Netflix, eat Chinese food and snuggle with sexy young men, but those are stories for another day. (Inbox me at Doug28352@yahoo.com for details.) Sometimes though on my Facebook timeline, I come across questions that I feel would be interesting to answer, but they don’t fall into any of the general categories that I usually post under. These fall under the topic of “Facebook Questions” and here are a few that popped up over the past couple of days. Let’s get busy, shall we?

1. Write you name using Alice Cooper song titles…

D – Dead Babies, O – Only Women Bleed, U – Ubangi Stomp, G – Gutter Cat Cs. The Jets M – Millie and Billie, A – Alma Matter, Y – Years Ago, N – No Tricks, A – Ain’t The Just Like A Woman, R – Road Rats, D – Dragontown

2. What’s the weirdest or most ridiculous thing that you find attractive in a mate?

A deep voice, a nice butt, no hair around the nipples, just a touch of facial hair, a crooked smile (more like a smirk), a goody trail.

3. Ruin Thanksgiving in four words?

“Hi guys – I’m drunk!” – some of my closest will get this… lol

4. What is your worst Thanksgiving story?

I can’t really think of anything major bad that stands out about Thanksgiving. Oh well, maybe next holiday then.

5. Name one thing you want in your life in 2018?

A good man who will love me for me, let me love him for him and will make the emptiness in my life go away as he makes his way past my wall and we build a life together. Or a new car…

6. Top Ten Things I Am Thankful For…

In no particular orde…

10. A great job with some awesome folks.

9. My cat, Goldie.

8. My friends that never give up on me even when they probably should, no matter how big an asshole I might be or how much I try to push them away.

7. Music.

6. My site – writing here keeps me sane (sort of).

5. A (relatively) stable mind (depending upon who you ask).

4. Pepsi (and not that Salted Caramel crap.)

3. Alice Cooper / pro wrestling / comics (my obsessions).

2. My family (both blood-related and my family by choice / fate/ life)

. 1. Kenneth and Kayden – my best friends, my family and the two guys who keep me from giving up and keep going strong – they are my rocks.

And there you go. That’s all folks. Until the next time…

Opposing Views – November 26, 2017

Tossing Salt Presents:
Opposing Views
November 26, 2017
DougMaynard.com

Are you ready to feel your blood pressure rise? Let’s get political. Let’s talk some “Opposing Views”. And away we go…

1. An Alabama lawmakers wants to make castration mandatory for child sex offenders. Do you think that’s a fair punishment?

I don’t think a blanket effect type law would work in this situation and that every case is different enough that while castration could certainly be an option, it would have to be determined if that’s appropiate on a case-by-case basis. But I’ve seen dogs that were “fixed” still trying their best to hump other dogs so would this even work? Abuse is as much as power and control as anything else so this might not even work. So mandatory? Nope, but keep it on the table for the most extreme cases where it may have a chance to work.

2. Political leaders on the left and right agree that Trump’s Twitter attacks are simply unacceptable for the president of the United States. Do you think Trump is an insult the presidency?

No, I don’t think Trump is an insult to the presidency. He’s trying to do what he promised and is far for straight up than some of the previous occupants of the White House. But that being said, he does need to back off on the Twitter a bit and think before he speaks. President Trump can be his own worst enemy sometimes when he reacts before thinking it out.

3. Use ONE WORD to describe the Trump family!

Rich!

4. President Trump just challenged Hillary Clinton to a 2020 election rematch. Who would get your vote: TRUMP or CLINTON?

I would not and could not vote for Hillary for any kind of political office, regardless of who her opponent might be. Definitely Trump.

5. Agree or disagree: America will be better off the day Trump leaves office.

I agree because it will mean he’s had a chance to tackle the big messes that were left to him by the previous administration and will be on the right track again, as it should be. His policies, while not always popular, are geared to build our economy, bring back jobs, cut reliance on the government for handouts and make America strong again and they seem to be working. By the time he’s finished, we definitely will be in far better shape then we were on the day he took office.

6. Hillary Clinton says NFL players absolutely have the right to protest. Do you AGREE or DISAGREE with her?

She’s right and they DO have the right to protest… on their own time. While wearing the uniforms of their teams and representing the organizations that are paying them millions of dollars a year, they are not individuals, but representatives of that team and of the NFL and should follow NFL rules, guidelines and policies. When they’re not working, then do what they want, but when working, focus on the team and the organization and leave your politics and protests at the door.

7. Do you think Michelle Obama would be a great president?

What qualifications does she have? How many political offices or leadership roles has she had? The only job I know of her to have ever held was as an attorney and she lost her license to practice law when it was revoked so obviously, she was not great at that particular job. So do I think she’s qualified and would make a great President? I don’t see any positive signs of it in her resume or public history so my answer would have to be “No!”.

And there you go. I’m finished for the day. Thanks for reading and I’ll catch you on the flip side. Comments, thoughts and all feedback is welcome. Until the next time, take care.

Wrestling Fact or Fiction – November 26, 2017

Tossing Salt Presents:
Wrestling Fact or Fiction
November 26, 2017
DougMaynard.com

Now, let’s talk about some rasslin’, shall we? Last night in Greensboro, NC was the return of Starcade. Combined with the return of the War Games this past weekend at the NXT Takeover event, this is a good time to be a wrestling fan, especially an old school fan of the NWA / WCW. I’m in a good mood. Let’s do this…

1. There are rumors that NXT will use WarGames as an annual event, similar to how WWE uses Hell in a Cell as an annual event; this is a horrible idea.

FICTION: While less is more and I’d rather see WarGames used rarely instead of multiple times a year, as Hell In A Cell is, if WWE was to decide to make it an annual event, so be it. I enjoyed seeing the return this past weekend, even with the changes that WWE made to the original concept and I’m sure I’d enjoy watching it again whenever the match is used. With a classic match like WarGames, it’s hard to go wrong.

2. The Velveteen Dream came out of Survivor Series weekend as the biggest winner.

FICTION: The “biggest winner”? Nah, I don’t think so. He had a fantastic match with Aleister Black and Dream is definitely on the pathway to bigger and better things as a result of it, but so many people had great showings and came out as “winners” this weekend. Men like Adam Cole, Andrade Almas, AJ Styles, Braun Strowman, etc. A lot of careers got the hard push this weekend and not just Dream. He’s just one of many.

3. Survivor Series was a better show than NXT Takeover: WarGames.

FICTION: Both shows were great and had solid cards, amazing action and good advances to the storylines. Both shows left us wanting more. I’ll give NXT the edge (just barely) because it wasn’t quite as long and had the WarGames match, but I can’t honestly say that one or the other was better. Flip a coin and you’re right. A great weekend for wrestling fans and WWE fans too.

4. You are excited for the main roster call ups of Ruby Riot, Mandy Rose, Sonya Deville, Sarah Logan and Live Morgan.

FICTION: While I’m happy to see these women come up to the main roster, along with the return of Paige, it just kind of overcrowds an already crowded and confusing division. Six women at one time is way too much to take it and for the fans to invest their time and emotion into and still be fair to the talents. I am interested to see how this all develops and what the game plan is, but I’m scared that the women already on the main roster, the ones I know and like and have invested my time and emotions into, will just be now lost in the shuffle.

5. You would rather see Triple H vs. Braun Strowman than Triple H vs. Kurt Angle at WrestleMania.

FACT: Let HHH face (and job to) Braun and let Kurt face his two-faced traitorous “son” Jason Jordan and I’ll be happy.

6. WWE will run a women’s Royal Rumble in 2018.

FACT: With close to twenty women now on the main roster, plus the fact that the women are already doing every other type of match that the men have been doing, such as “Money In The Bank” and “Hell In A Cell”, I don’t see how WWE can not have this happen. The women have proven their spot and earned the chance to have their own Rumble and WWE will be dropping the ball big time if they don’t come through on this. And for those who say that having two Rumble matches on one card is too much, there’s a solution to that as well. WWE has their own network, right? The weekend before the Royal Rumble, or even the weekend after, run a special event on the Network and use it for the Women’s Rumble match. Or devote an episode of RAW or Smackdown Live and feature the women there. Regardless of how it’s done, it does need to be and most likely will be done.

And there you go. That’s definitely all for me this morning. I’m going back to bed now. Thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, questions and any and all feedback is welcome and appreciated. Until the next time, take it easy and have a great one.

Music Fact or Fiction – November 26, 2017

Tossing Salt Presents:
Music Fact or Fiction
November 26, 2017
DougMaynard.com

Are you ready to talk some rock & roll, country, jazz and Streisand? It’s time for some Music Fact or Fiction. The questions below come from my friends at 411mania.com/music. And the opinions afterwards come from me. Let’s do this…

1. With the exit of Brian Johnson and the death of Malcolm Young, AC/DC is probably done.

FICTION: Johnson left the band due to his hearing problems a few years ago and Young left the group in 2014 and yet AC/DC still continues to perform and tour. Should they continue? That’s a question for debate, but so far, they’re still keeping on and going and I doubt that will stop anytime soon.

2. You enjoyed Green Day’s video for “Back in the USA.”

FACT: While I didn’t really appreciate the shot at President Trump, the song is good and the video was good. Green Day rarely lets us down and they managed to keep up the good standards once again.

3..You’re excited for a third Pitch Perfect movie.

FICTION: I’m not sure exactly what “Pitch Perfect” is and why another movie about it, since there have already been a couple, should interest me. Someone explain this to me and I might actually check it out, but I doubt it.

4. A Barbra Streisand Netflix special is totally skippable.

FICTION: I love this woman’s voice and singing, but hate her politics and outspoken ways. But the combination of the two is why she’s endured so long and stands out from the pack so well, both as a singer and an actress. I’ll be checking this out when it shows up on Netflix to be sure.

5. It’s not surprising that Beyonce is the highest-paid woman in music.

FACT: She a big star and makes lots of money. Not one of my personal favorites and to be honest, I really don’t have much use for her at all, but I’ll give the devil her due. She has lots of fans and they like her. Good for her.

6. Chance the Rapper was great on SNL.

FACT: I wasn’t expecting much to be honest, but that’s generally SNL itself that lets me down again and again. The unfunny and / or idiot skits outnumber the actual funny ones by a good ten to one margin these days. But Chance did a good job and was funny in the bits that he took a part in. He had a good charisma and presence and good comedic timing. He did very well with SNL.

And there you go. Another Fact or Fiction in the books. Thanks for reading. Comments, questions and all feedback is welcome and appreciated. Until the next time, take care.
