A Dozen Days Of Dougie (Day 4): March 4, 2016
It’s Friday, March 4, 2016 and it’s Day 4 of my infamous blog series, “A Dozen Days of Dougie!”. Still here and still writing. Aren’t you proud of me? It’s been a weird day thus far. It’s Thursday afternoon as I write this and I have been in the house all day, as in not even walking out on the porch or in the yard. That’s probably not good or healthy, but it’s just how I feel today. A little down. A little depressed. I hate being stuck here at the house with no ride or means to escape. As most of you know, my Blazer has been having a few problems over the past month. The transmission went out and I had to have it rebuilt. And now, the starter is acting up and it will only crank up maybe 1/4th of the time. I could just keep a wrench in the car and beat on the starter every time I need to crank up, but that’s so ghetto and messed up, I refuse to do so. So my Blazer is visiting it’s favorite mechanic / car doctor and getting treatment. He was hoping to get to it last night or this morning so I’m hoping for a phone call at any minute so we can go rescue “the jeep” (that’s what my best friend / little brother calls it) and bring her home. But until I get her back, I’m just sitting here, all depressed and bored and lonely. I need a good man!
I have a funny story to tell. Well, it’s not really funny, but it happened and so I’m going to tell it anyhow. I went to work yesterday from 12:00 noon to 4:00pm. I saw it marked on the calendar and went on in and worked. No big deal, right? Well, I wasn’t actually scheduled to work yesterday. The calendar I glanced at and read was the one for the month of February and not for March. They just hadn’t flipped the calendar over yet for the new month. So I worked 4 hours and wasn’t even supposed to be there. Luckily for me, it was a simple mistake and my boss-man went ahead and let me go ahead and work. I was already there and working so why not, right? I felt like an idiot, but it happens sometimes and they looked out for me at the ABC as they often do. I work for and with some awesome people. And that’s the truth!
Let’s go to the so-called Magic Box and see what topics are on the agenda for today. We open up the box and the topics I’m writing about for today are: “Awards Shows”, “Neighbors” and “Dogs versus Cats!”. Well, this could be interesting. Let’s do it!…
A Dozen Days of Dougie (Day 4): Award Shows, Neighbors and Dogs versus Cats!
Awards shows are on TV and they’re a dime, a dozen. Who cares? What should matter is one show for each genre. Do the Academy Awards for movies, the Emmy Awards for TV, the Grammy Awards for music, the Tony Awards for Broadway and theatre, the MTV Video Music Awards for videos and music played on MTV (that’d be a very short program these days… lol) and the Slammy Awards for the WWE. Everything else? Forget about it because it doesn’t matter. Oh yeah, I almost forgot. The BET Awards for non-white people who had their feelings hurt because they didn’t have the talent or mass fan appeal to win an award at one of the legitimate awards programs. Did that sound racist? My apologies then because ALL of the other Awards programs that I mentioned have nominees and winners of all races, genders, sexual orientations, religions, etc. To win an award from BET, you have to be African-American and straight. So who discriminates? Who’s the racist? Something to think about, right?
Next topic is “Neighbors” and all I’m going to say about that is we currently have some of the best neighbors possible and I’m forever glad and thankful that we have who we have across the street, next door, and behind us. We’ve had a few doozies over the years in the neighborhood, especially the last family in the house across the road and to the left and that pair of guys from around the corner in the circle, but the good have outnumbered the bad by a huge margin in our neighborhood and right now is just about the best set of neighbors of all. Just saying.
And “Dogs versus Cats”? I like dogs. I really, really, really do. But they’re so needy and fake and phoney. They’re ALWAYS happy to see you and I just don’t trust that. Cats are more my speed. They like you when it’s convenient to them and even if they really do have affection or love for you, they still only show you when it’s convenient for them. They don’t listen, they are demanding and opportunistic and loud. They’re like weird roommates who like to poop in a box. They’re real and that’s what I appreciate most. Yes, I’m a cat person and always will be. What’s the old cliche’? Cats rule and dogs drool! And no, I’m not just saying that because my own cat, Goldie, has come outof hiding and is sitting across the room watching me. That has nothing to do with my appreciation of cats over dogs. Dogs are great for some people and I’ll never judge, but cats are better for me.
And there you go.
By the way, Happy 55th Birthday to my sister, Terri Gantt. That gal is getting old and grumpy and we wouldn’t have her any other way. I love you Sis!
And well… that’s it for today. See you tomorrow. Thanks for reading and I’ll catch you on the flip side with Day 5.
