Fact or Fiction: Pop Culture & Current Events…

So far, I’ve done a “Fact or Fiction” piece for the greatest sport in the world, professional wrestling, for music and for politics. “So what’s next?”, you ask. How about pop culture and current news events of the day? Doesn’t that sound exciting? *crickets chirping* Well, I’m excited anyhow and with the exception of my two loyal fans (the check is in the mail), no one reads any of this stuff anyways. Everyone should and then tell two friends and they’ll tell two friends and so on and so on and so on and by the end of the week, I would have at least a dozen regular readers. No wait, that’s too much pressure. So read and enjoy and if you want to share, that would be awesome. But it’s not required. I won’t cry if you don’t (much). Let’s just get right to it now and do this thing, shall we? These “Fact or Fiction” statements are all about different items that I’ve seen recently in the headines, on the news, or have just heard people speaking about. The opinions are all mine. And away we go…

Pop Goes The Weasel: Fact or Fiction (Pop Culture and Current Events)
April 14, 2017

April, the Giraffe, will have her baby within the next week or so…

FACT: I’m beginning to wonder if she’s ever going to have that baby at all and are we going to have to send TSA authorities to “remove” the unruly unborn child from the womb. We’ve been waiting and waiting and she’s getting bigger and bigger and if you watch the video feed on YouTube, you can sometimes see the baby moving around. It’s ready to come out and I thnk she’s ready to drop it. She has to be miserable. Hopefully, it will be sooner rather than later and the millions of April-watchers will be able to resume their regular lives within the next few days. As big as she is, she can’t hold off much longer and then the fans and watchers can rejoice as the new baby Giraffe comes into the world.

United Airlines was correct in the way they removed that passenger from their flight.

FICTION: If there’s a book on how to do every single thing wrong in public relations, I think United followed it step by step in this instance. They were not overbooked, for a change, but wanted to fly their own employees so they asked passengers, who were paying customers and had already been seated in their seats in the plane, if they’d like to volunteer to give up their seats and be booked to a later flight. No one volunteered and why should they? They paid for their seats. They had already gone through the TSA harassment and intimidation and were on the plane, ready to get moving and on to their eventual destination. So then United decided to “randomly” select passengers and force them to leave the plane. The man said no. He’s a doctor and so is his wife and he had to get back home to work and patients. So instead of moving on and “randomly” selecting someone else, they decided to call in the authorities and force him to leave the plane, dragging him out. In the process, his mouth was busted open. The second they laid their hands upon him, United screwed up big time. They dragged him out of the plane, assaulted him and then, after the news broke, gossip sites like TMZ came out and looked into his past, revealing his scandals and mistakes of the past for all the world to see, trying to make the Doctor the bad guy and dragging his name through the mud. That’s called defamation of character and was really, really screwed up. Long story short, the President of United issued a statement apologizing for the incident and is trying to save face big time. The Doctor has reportedly spoken with lawyers and should expect a big cash settlement and you know what? He deserves every penny he can get from those facist clowns. This all falls under the “What the hell were they thinking?” category. United Airlines screwed up big time and now it’s time to pay the piper. So it is written and so it shall be and it couldn’t happen to some nicer folks.

Charlie Murphy was funnier than his brother, Eddie.

FACT: Eddie was the bigger star and in his early days, before SNL and the Nutty Professor movies, Eddie was a funny, funny man. But something changed and he changed his act and routines and went from being a comedian to being a comedic actor and it just wasn’t the same. Charlie was hilarious, just being himself and telling stories and when matched up with Dave Chapelle, telling of his adventures as “Eddie’s brother” and about his interactions with some famous folks, no one was better or more entertaining. Eddie was the star of the family, but Charlie was the comic. RIP Charlie Murphy…

Kids today are smarter than kids twenty years ago.

FICTION: While kids today might have more technical knowledge than the kids of twenty years ago, they definitely are not smarter and in fact, are down right dumb-asses in comparison. Kids today can’t write their name in cursive, do simple math products like adding or subtracting or spell the simpliest words. If asked a simple question like who is the Vice President of the United States or What is 3/4 of 100, they can’t do it. There’s a blank expression, followed by silence and then nothing. Kids today don’t have real social skills, preferring to text or talk on the phone instead of face to face, human contact and interaction. There is no respect, like the use of “Ma’am” or “Please” or “Thank you!”. We live in an entitlement society full of people who are unprepared to handle the real world and real life. And it’s so damn sad. A kid today might be more technologically advanced and can program a smart phone, but can they balance a checkbook? Not the ones that I’ve seen. And this is our future. We’re so damn doomed!

Notre Dame University should rescind the invitation to Vice President Mike Pence to speak at their campus since some students are protesting.

FICTION: Students at Notre Dame University are trying to pressure the University leaders to rescind an invitation to Vice President Mike Pence to speak at their commencement because he makes them feel “not safe”. What the hell is this kind of stupidity. He’s the Vice President of the United States and because they don’t agree with his politics, they’re “not safe”? Look where they’re going to school? Notre Dame is a Catholic college with strong views and principals towards the Catholic Church. If a student is going there, you’d think they would agree with those guidelines, which are the same ones that Mike Pence follows and represents. They should be lock, stock and in step with the Vice President and not against him. But the students are mindless sheep and rather than embrace different opinions and be respectful of those you might not agree with, they’d rather whine, cry and complain. They don’t “feel safe” with the Vice President visiting. I don’t feel safe with idiots like that walking around free and unsupervised. Get the hell over it. Cry-babies!

The age for smoking should be raised to twenty-one.

FICTION: A bill was actually introduced recently in Congress attempting to raise the legal smoking age to twenty-one, just like alcohol. From what I understand, it went no where and was quickly buried, as it should be. But my thoughts are this. I hate smoking and the smell of cigarettes. It’s a disgusting, filthy and very expensive habit. My personal choice would be to just ban it all and get rid of cigarettes and tobacco products entirely. BUT, that’s not my call. If a person can vote, be drafted into the military and fight for their country, be charged criminally as an adult, have babies, buy guns, etc., then they should be able to purchase cigarettes and tobacco if that’s their decision. I also feel that the drinking age, for beer anyhow, should be lowered back to age 18, for the reasons I’ve cited above. How can the government say you’re an adult for this or that, but then at the same time, say you’re too young and stupid and not an adult for something else. Very hypocritical, don’t you think? And let’s don’t even begin to get started about the seat-belt laws. Oh vey! I know that the drinking age will never be lowered, but let the 18 – 20 year olds at least have their smokes. It’s only right. Just please don’t smoke around me.

And there you go with my first ever, “Pop Goes The Weasel” edition of “Fact or Fiction”. Thank you for reading. And now, I have to go get ready for work. Uuugh! Have a great weekend, my friends. Happy Easter and I’ll catch you later.

Ubuntu!
