Tossing Salt Presents: Music Fact or Fiction
April 14, 2017
It’s time to get funky like a monkey and do that freaky “Fact or Fiction” thing that we do so well around here at Tossing Salt Media, Inc. By now, you should know the routine. You put the right leg in and take the right leg out. Do the hokey pokey because that’s what it’s all about. Personally, I’d rather be doing the Time Warp, but that’s just me and my friends from Transexual, Transylvania. It’s just a jump to the left. But that’s for another day. As for now, the statements come from my friends at 411mania.com/music. The agreements or lack thereof come from me, myself and I. Are you ready to shake that booty and get all musical inside? Let’s do this…
Jay Z’s solo material will eventually return to Spotify and Apple Music.
FACT: Jay Z has pulled his music from these distributors before and he ended up going back and he’ll do it again. It’s not if, but just a matter of when. Money talks and they’ll keep talking and throwing numbers at each other and will end up kissing and making up, cause that’s the way things always go. ‘Nuff said!
You’re not a fan of Wale and Travis Scott’s “Fish n Grits.”
FACT: I went and listened to it on YouTube and heard “nigger this” and “nigger that” at least ten times in the first twenty seconds and then the rest that I actually listened to is about smoking grass. Some people like this crap, but I can live without it and think it’s pretty stupid to be honest. This is the kind of crap that makes me hate rap to begin with. It sucks!
It’s disappointing that Steve Perry didn’t perform with Journey at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
FACT: It would have been nice to see Steve Perry perform at least a song or two with the band he so long fronted and led, but I guess we should be happy that he even showed up and went on stage with the rest of the band, even if he didn’t perform. I guess Perry sees the band as a part of his past, to be fondly remembered, but left in the past. They have a new singer now and he’s the one who gets to perform. I wish Perry felt different, but at least he was there.
You’re interested in a collaboration between Sam Smith and Timbaland.
FICTION: Sam Smith has an amazing voice and is a very talented singer. Timbaland is, from all accounts, a great producer and pretty much a guarenteed hit maker. But I don’t follow or really care about either of them and while getting together will probably be great for their respective careers, it doesn’t do a thing for me. That’s just how it is.
A Gorillaz TV show is a good idea.
FICTION: Gorillaz are entertaining and make amusing and entertaining videos, but a full show would probably be too much of a good thing. Bands like Gorillaz work best in small doses. A show on something like Adult Swin that runs 10 – 15 minutes tops might work, but anything else would over-expose them and there would be more bad than good as a result. They’re best to just keep doing as they’re doing and leave ideas like a TV show to bands who really need the exposure and would be better suited. Gorillaz don’t need it.
You didn’t like Paramore’s cover of Radiohead’s “House of Cards.”
FICTION: I had a hard time finding it on YouTube, but did manage and it’s not bad. I liked it. I don’t really see it becoming one of my all time favorites or anything like that, but it’s a good song and Paramore did a pretty good cover. Radiohead’s version is better, in my opinion, but Paramore does get an “A” for effort.
And there you go with another edition of “Music Fact or Fiction” in the books. Not the best group of topics to work with, but at least I tried. Thank you for reading. Thoughts and comments are welcome and I can be reached at Doug28352@yahoo.com. Thanks again and I’ll catch you on the flip side.
