Tossing Salt Presents: Wrestling Fact or Fiction

The WWE should hire Christy Hemme and give her a shot working with the creative teams.

FACT: Hemme has made it known that she would like an opportunity to work with the WWE in a creative capacity and I say, what the hell, give her a shot. Hemme was a big part of the TNA booking committee and had a strong voice in the direction of the TNA Knockouts Division. Impact Wrestling has a lot of problems and issues, but the actual wrestling and booking wasn’t really one of the problems. The actual wrestling and matches were the only part of Impact Wrestling that wasn’t all screwed up. So give her a shot and if she does well, it’s great P.R. for the WWE to have this former performer, who got her start as part of the Diva Search all those years ago, has grown in the business and moved to a creative capacity. That’s a great story to help sell how WWE respect and empowers women. And if she bombs out, so what? Nothing ventured and nothing gained. They really should give her a shot.

Carlito Colon would make a great addition to the current WWE roster.

FACT: From what Carlito has said, he and WWE have been in talks on several occasions and the only real problem has been money with Carlito feeling that WWE has been trying to lowball him. I would love to see them get it worked out though because while still a young man, Carlito is an established veteran and could serve as a locker room leader for the WWE and add something to the roster that so many of the current stars seem to be lacking, and that’s a personality. Carlito established himself as a character, with his look, his mannerisms, his ring work, etc. Too many of the current WWE superstars today seem like cookie-cutter images of each other and are interchangable. That’s not good. WWE needs characters to stand out and be over-the-top and unique. Carlito does exactly that, plus he’s a hell of a good talent, both in the ring and on the mic. I’d love to see Carlito work against men like Kevin Owens, AJ Styles, Ambrose, Dolph, etc. That’s money waiting to be made and I hope that WWE will eventually realize that and sign the apple-spitter once more.

Booker T is a great choice to substitute for David Otunga on RAW while he’s off filming a movie role.

FICTION: Booker is okay, I guess, but let’s be honest. As a commentator, Booker makes a great wrestler. Why not use Jerry “the King” Lawler as the third man in the RAW announce booth? Why not bring back the man who announced RAW for so many years, Jim Ross, to fill the void left by Otunga’s absence? As I said before, Booker is okay, but the first time he spouts out a “shucky ducky quack quack”, I’m turning my TV off for the rest of the night or at least switching it to mute.

Jinder Mahal is ready for a big push.

FACT: Look at how jakked up that man is since his return to the WWE. He’s looking bigger and better than I’ve ever seen him and it looks as it it might finally be his time. He was the semi-finalist in the Andre the Giant Battle Royal at Wrestlemania and has had some really good matches against Finn Balor and Mojo Rawley this past week on TV. Give the man a shot and see what happens. He’s paid his dues and it’s time to take the chance.

The WWE is right to keep the New Day off television until Kofi Kingston is ready to return from his injury.

FICTION: The New Day act has honestly gotten very stale so why not take advantage of this injury to Kofi and turn a lemon to lemonade. While Kofi is out, have the New Day realize that they need a 3rd man and go out recruiting. Titus O’Neill could step up. Curtis Axel could step up. Erick Rowan could step up. Have these men “try out” and audition. Then, eventually have one accepted as the newest member of the “New Day”, to add a new element to the act and freshen things up. Then, when Kofi is ready to return, you have instant drama with he and the new member competing to see who belongs with the group. This could be used as a great opportunity to freshen up a stale act and give some TV time and an opportunity for some of the lower card talent to step up. Keeping the New Day off TV until Kofi returns is just wasting everyone involved in the group in my opinion.

Bray Wyatt should recruit new members for his “Wyatt Family” now that he’s been moved to RAW.

FACT: Luke Harper is off on Smackdown doing his own thing. Erick Rowan is also on Smackdown, but it seems as if he’s still loyal and faithful to Bray. Braun Strowman is doing his own thing as the resident monster on RAW and is feuding with Roman Reigns and possibly Brock Lesnar in the near future. That leaves Bray all alone and that’s not a position that he would like. So have him recruit that youngster, Bo Dallas, someone that Bray is very familiar with. Have him recruit Curtis Axel. Have him go to NXT and do some “recruiting” for the main roster. There are so many names that Bray could use and that could use Bray as well. Now is the time to make it all happen and bring some of these names on board the “Wyatt Family Express!”

Primo and Epico, the Shining Stars, are ready to be taken seriously and pushed as a top tag team on Smackdown.

FACT: I was greatly encouraged that when Epico and Primo made their debut on Smackdown this past week, during the Superstar Shake-Up, they weren’t trying to sell vacations or act like idiots. They were serious and focused and attacked the top team on Smackdown, American Alpha. I know that the Usos hold the titles, but American Alpha is the top face team and Epico and Primo are heels so… But they looked like incredible and strong tag team that we all know they could be when not being forced to be Matadors or real estate salesmen. I’m hoping that this is the start of something big for these two second generation superstars because they definitely do deserve it.

You enjoyed the attack on Roman Reigns by Braun Strowman this past week on RAW.

FACT: I did enjoy it a great deal. This was so old school in the laying out of the attack and so over the top, it was awesome. Now WWE just needs to take advantage and let there be a slow build to when Roman can come back and take revenge. Let Roman sell the injuries for several weeks at least and that means no house shows and no television. Maybe have a “Medical Report” each week, but keep Roman away from Braun and away from the arenas. When Roman does try to come back, maybe at the RAW PPV in a few weeks, have Kurt Angle stop him from attacking Braun because he’s not “medically cleared”. Just be patient and let the tension build as Braun destroys everyone in his path and Roman’s injuries keep him from getting some revenge. Finally, Roman has had enough and in a total sneak ambush, lays out Braun with about five or six superman punches, while having a taped fist or a pair of William Regal’s leftover “brass knucks”. Then, move on to the matches and rematches and all of that, but give it a slow build first to make the anticipation grow. They’ve done this angle so well so far and I’m just hoping that they can keep it going. It’s old school booking of a feud at it’s best and now we just have to wait for the payoff.

Kane will not return to the ring for a final match.

FACT: I would love to see Kane back in the ring, but so long as he’s running for Mayor of his hometown, he won’t put the race in jeopardy by giving his opponent any kind of ammo to use against him, such as playing everyone’s favorite Demon or even Corporate Kane on national television. And if he wins the race, he’ll be too busy being the Mayor and a politician to wrestle again. It’s sad to think, but I think we’ve seen the last of Kane, aka Glen Jacobs, as an in-ring performer for the WWE. He’s moving on to politics and a life outside of wrestling and I hope it all works out well. He deserves it.
