More Of This & That…

In my last blog, I wondered what happened to the Marathon Candy Bar and if they were still available anywhere. This is what I found out.

The Marathon bar was introduced in 1973 and was sold until it was discontinued in 1981. It was marketed as “the candy bar you can’t eat quickly” in commercials by some kind of a cowboy guy. There was also a bad guy in the commercials that always challenged him to eat it quickly but it couldn’t be done. The cowboy always won because he would take his time and eat it really slowly. Cadbury has come up with an imitation of the Marathon Bar called a Curly Wurly but they are only sold in the UK & Canada.

So they don’t make them anymore and if I ever get a craving for a Marathon Bar, I have to go to the UK or Canada and get a “Curly Wurly” instead. That sucks.

I was also wondering who was the woman who sang in the song, “Cherry Bomb”, along with John Mellencamp. It was back-up singer by the name of Crystal Taliefero. I’ll sleep better tonight now that I know who that mysterious voice belongs to.

And now, let’s talk and do some brief comments on some of the other things that I’ve been wanting to comment on (they’re on the list)…

A 5th of Fireball Whiskey is on sale this month at the local NC ABC Store, just in case anyone is interested. It goes for $12.95, plus tax, which brings it to $13.86. The normal retail price, at least here in NC, is $15.95, plus tax so it’s $3.00 this month. Come get some and get all liquored up. You’ll be glad you did.

Does anyone else remember the song by Phil Collins and Genesis, from the late 80’s called “Land Of Coufusion”. Remember that great video with all of the puppets and how it mocked / parodied President Reagan, Prime Minister Thatcher and all of the big time 80’s music stars? It was a great song and a great video. And now, with people like President Trump, President Obama, Hillary, Bill O’Reilly, , Putin, Kellyanne Conway and so many other distinct characters in the national spotlight, it’d be a great time for Genesis to tweak a few of the lyrics and make a new, updated version of that video. Same great song – new great puppets. Someone needs to give Phil Collins a call and bring up this idea to him. It’d work and make them lots of money, plus the publicity would be incredible. Just saying.

Speaking of President Obama, I’m going to do something that I never thought I would do and defend him. There has been a lot of talk and flack, from members of both political parties, about recent breaking news that the former President is set to do a speech for some company on Wall Street and will be paid allegedly $400,000 for that speech. One speech and nearly half a million dollars for giving it. And people are upset and say he shouldn’t be making that kind of money giving speeches. And my thoughts are, “Why the hell not?”. I didn’t like Obama as the President. I think he was a very weak President, his policies were bad and have hurt our nation time and time again. He was a poor leader in every sense of the word and in my opinion, will rank as probably the worst President of the United States of all time. And yes, that includes Jimmy Carter, Gerald Ford, Andrew Johnson, Millard Fillmore, Chester Arthur and Ulysses S. Grant. I personally wouldn’t pay him $20 bucks to give a speech and that’s even including a free meal. But there are people who do, for some reason, like the man and want to hear him talk. And if his agent can get people to fork out that kind of money to listen to him be delusional and hypocritical, so be it. More power to him. To his critics, what do they want him to do? Turn down the money and tell the people offering this gig that he doesn’t feel he’s worth that much. Hell no. These same people don’t complain when Johnny Depp makes $15,000,000 off a movie or the Rolling Stones make $75 million bucks off a concert tour. The way it works is that Obama’s agent tries to get as much as he can for his client, Obama. Then the former President comes in and does what he’s obligated to do and smiles all the way to the bank. There is much not to like and to criticize President Obama about, but making money isn’t one of them. He’s a private citizen now and can do what he wants, so long as it’s legal and he pays his taxes on the money he earns. It’s the American way and if folks don’t like it, get over it. I just want to know how I can get a piece of that action and make that kind of money. Whatever it takes, I’m down.

Mudflap and Palmer, the morning team at Eagle 92.9 FM, have been terminated from their positions at the station due to “budget cuts”. They are also in syndication so they’ll be okay, but that’s still kind of odd. I don’t listen to them, but a guy came into the store yesterday talking about it. I prefer to listen to Bob & Sheri on Q98 fm (98.1) or, when I can find them, “The Big Show” starring John Boy & Billy. Those dudes are funny.

I need to go call some people, but I hate telephones. What a quandry this is. Maybe I’ll just go take a nap and sleep on it. Hmmmm..

I am so stoked to see the character of Mantis in the new “Guardians of the Galaxy” movie. She’s one of my favorite comic characters from the books and I have used her quite often in my fan-fiction stories. Currently, in my stories, she’s a reserve member of the Avengers International team, based in London, England and led by the Black Widow and is also acting as a teacher / counselor for the “Stoddard Institute”, a school for mutants and super-powered youth, located in Collinsport, Maine and ran by the vampire Barnabas Collins and his cousin, the werewolf, Quentin Collins. I always thought that taking a shower was supposed to wake a person up and make you feel all refreshed. I went and took a long, hot shower a few minutes ago, right before I started writing this, and now my eyes are trying to close. I had plenty of sleep last night, for a change, and I’m not tired. Not really. But I want to nap and sleep and cuddle up with Juventud Guerrera and just chill. *sighs* Hate it when this happens.

Hell, I’m going to go for it. My cat is taking a nap. My Mom is taking a nap. And I think I should take one too. I’ll be back later with a “Music Fact or Fiction” piece, unless I decide to not do it and then, I’ll be back when I get back. Whatever works, right? Right now, I’m going to take a nap. Damn, I need a good boyfriend. Any volunteers?
