A flashback to something I wrote 4 years ago. The topic was Drug Testing for people who receive Government assistance. Our local leaders didn’t like that idea. I had some thoughts on the matter. And here you go…

So the “leaders” here in Scotland Co. don’t think that drug testing should be required in order to receive public assistance (housing, food stamps, etc)… I guess they don’t want to see all those public housing facilities sitting empty and for all that government money to quit coming into Scotland Co. Hell, it’s the only money we have keeping the county alive (barely) these days. Cut out the government money and this place would be totally dead. But based on the number of folks I see each night buying their blunts and wraps, if NC ever did decide to crack down and require drug testing, about 80% of the folks getting aid would be cut off. Nothing wrong with getting help sometimes – I’m all for that and have had to do it myself on occasion, but everything has a price and there are rules and regulations involved. I’ve had to take drug tests to get most of the jobs I’ve worked and then I still have to earn my keep. So drug testing for folks who live off the system and don’t have any desire to make things better… what the hell. Go for it!! Too bad our “leaders” don’t have the guts to make it happen
