Tossing Salt Presents:
Wrestling Fact or Fiction
May 14, 2017
Good evening and welcome to another edition of Wrestling Fact or Fiction. Happy Mother’s Day to my Mom, Evelyn Brannan Rushin, the greatest Mom of all time. And she’s mine… Not yours. And I’m not sharing.
Now let’s get down to business. How this works is pretty simple. We have a statement, provided more often than not, by my fine friends at http://www.411mania.com and I either agree by saying “Fact” or disagree by saying “Fiction” and then I explain why. Doesn’t that sound like fun? Of course it does. Now, let’s get busy and do this…
1. WWE adding a UK Title match to the Takeover: Chicago event is a smart idea.
FACT: If the WWE really wants to build and promote the UK Championship and their UK brand, they need to give it exposure and let the WWE Universe know what to expect. And what better way than to have the UK Championship defended on one of the NXT events, a “Takeover” event from Chicago. The NXT events draw fans and the specials on the Network draw fans. And by showcasing the UK Championship on one of these events, it exposes it to fans. It’s a win – win in every way possible for the WWE and their UK brand.
2. What is your current level of excitement for the Ring of Honor product?
On a scale of 1- 10, I’d probably give it a “5”. It’s nothing against the product which has almost always been excellent, but I don’t watch it and haven’t in quite a while because quite simply, I don’t have the time. Between my job, my volunteer work, the podcast on Tuesdays, writing for this blog and spending time with my family & my best friend, not to mention every so often attempting to find Mr. Right, plus watching RAW, Smackdown and the occasional program on the Network, ROH just isn’t in the plans or schedule. I read the reviews and recaps and it’s a good product and I wish I had more time to fit it in, but for now, I don’t. It’s simple as that.
3. You would be interested in Batista returning to WWE to work a program with Triple H.
FACT: I can’t believe I’m saying this because I have never been a fan of Bastista as a wrestler. And I don’t much care for HHH as a wrestler anymore either. If he’s an executive, that’s the role he should play and leave the in-ring stuff to others. But given the success of the Guardians movies, I’m surprised that the WWE hasn’t jumped all over this yet. It’s money and publicity waiting to happen and it would bring new faces to the WWE audience. For that alone, it should happen. Just saying.
4. The Broken Hardys gimmick will never see the light of day in the WWE.
FICTION: We’re already starting to see bits and pieces of it with Matt and some of his promos. I think it’s pretty much a given that we’ll see Broken Matt and Brother Nero in some way, shape or form sooner rather than later. The nostalgia act only goes so far and it won’t be long before the fans start wanting more from Matt and Jeff. As soon as the legal issues are settled with Anthem (F*ck the Owl!), something will happen and Matt will be broken once more. Watch and see.
5. What is your current level of excitement for the WWE’s UK TV show on the WWE Network.
Probably about a “7” out of “10”. These guys are exceptional wrestlers and the stuff I’ve seen thus far has been really good. I’m looking forward to seeing the new talents and the different styles. It should be really, really good.
6. Kenny Omega pinning ROH Champion Christopher Daniels at a War of the Worlds event, when he’s not locked into any more ROH dates this year, was poor booking.
FACT: Unless there is something going on that ROH isn’t telling us, it’s pretty dumb to have the face of your company, the champion, get beaten cleanly in the middle of the ring when there is no chance for revenge or payback. If there isn’t a reason or a payoff, the champion should not lose or do the job, especially when it was a multi-man tag match and there were other wrestlers there, who were NOT the ROH Champion, available to take the fall. It’s poor booking, kind of dumb and definitely not best for business and that’s the truth.
And that’s it for today. What do you think? Questions and comments can be sent to my e-mail at Doug28352@yahoo.com and are welcome and appreciated. Now, I’m going to go watch “Once Upon A Time” on Netflix. I just started watching this show tonight and I’m already three episodes in. It’s good. Until the next time, I’m out of here. Catch you on the other side.
