Tossing Salt Presents:
Music Fact or Fiction
May 22, 2017
It’s way too early on a Monday morning and I should be headed to bed really soon. The day will be starting soon and this is going to be the start of a very busy series of days for me. I need a freakin’ vacation. But since that isn’t going to happen, I guess I’ll just sit here and do a “Fact or Fiction” column instead. Or maybe go watch a movie. Nah, I just finished watching Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and my eyes need a rest. I’ll just write instead. It’s time to do that music thing. The questions come from my friends over at 411mania.com/music. And I’ll answer for myself, thank you. Let’s just get ‘er done.
Katy Perry is a good choice to judge the new American Idol
FACT: She’s a great entertainer. She has a personality. She had name recognition. And she’s not Nicki Minaj. What more can a person want? A very good choice to help get the rebirth of American Idol off the ground and running again.
You’re interested in the Tupac documentary from Steve McQueen.
FICTION: Unless McQueen has learned something new about Tupac, there really isn’t all that much left to cover. The man (Tupac) had great talent and was an enigma far beyond his time, but it’s all been said and done already. He’s old news and any new documentary, unless it proves what we all know already, that he’s alive and living in Cuba, is just a waste of our time. I honestly do not care at all one way or the other.
Rumors of a new Taylor Swift album this year are exciting.
FICTION: The fact that Jessi Colter came out with a new album last month is exciting. The fact that Alice Cooper will be releasing a new album in July called “Paranormal” is exciting. Rumors about Taylor Swift are just that… rumors. Until I see the new album with my own eyes, it doesn’t matter to me. Hell, even then, it doesn’t really matter to me. Taylor Swift.. “Eh!”
Thom Yorke will be a good choice to score the Suspiria remake.
FACT: Thom Yorke will do a great job and probably one of the best choices available. Now, who is Thom Yorke and what the hell is “Suspiria?”. It sure as hell ain’t country music or anything I plan on seeing. It’s just another “EH!” in my book.
Beyonce attempting to trademark her daughter’s name is ridiculous.
FICTION: The baby’s name, Blue Ivory, is distinct and unique and I can see people trying to take advantage and use her name to allow people to assume a Beyonce connection even when there isn’t one. Beyonce is just trying to protect her and her families interest. Can’t blame her for trying.
You have a higher opinion of Nicki Minaj after she helped fans with student loans.
FICTION: My opinion of Nicki Minaj remains where it always has been. It’s nice that she’s trying to help out fans, but is it for a true and honorable reason or is it just Nicki trying to rebuild her image after that disasterous run on American Idol and the lackluster music she’s been releasing for the past couple of years? Pardon me if I doubt her reasons for being so generous all of a sudden. I just don’t have much use for her based on what I’ve read, heard and seen. I might be wrong, but then again, I might be right and it will take more than a few student loans to make me think she’s more than an opportunist and spoiled brat.
And there you go. Another lackluster, but I tried, piece in the books. Thanks for reading. I’m going to bed now. Have a good night.
Ubuntu!
