Music Fact or Fiction – May 27, 2017

Tossing Salt Presents:
Music Fact or Fiction
May 27, 2017

Good morning, salutations and how the hell are you? It’s way too early on a Saturday morning and in just about an hour or so, I’ll be headed out into that crazy and cruel world to do my part to get this entire country liquored up. It’s much better that way, believe me. But before I do that, I have music on my mind or more specifically, that “Music Fact or Fiction” thing that I do sometimes. I’d actually rather be eating cereal and watching cartoons, but we don’t do that on Saturday mornings around here anymore. There are not any good cartoons and it’s all educational crap now. Bleh to that, so I’ll do this instead. As per usual, the questions / statements that I’ll be commenting on come from my friends over at http://www.411mania.com/music. The responses that follow, and if I agree or disagree, thus saying “Fact” or “Fiction”, that all comes from me. Let’s do this.

The death of Chris Cornell means Soundgarden is probably finished.

FACT: Bands have lost singers before and carried on. Queen, Journey, Sublime and Quiet Riot are good examples of this. But Chris Cornell was such a defining part of Soundgarden and such a unique person in his talent and that so distinct voice, I just can’t see Soundgarden moving on and continuing business as usual. I can see them recruiting someone to finish up the current tour and band committments, but once that’s complete, I think the legacy and presence that was and is Soundgarden, comes to an end.

It was the right decision to make Prince’s siblings the heirs to his estate.

FACT: Since Prince didn’t leave a will, was not married and doesn’t appear to have any children in the picture, it was not only the right decision, but the only real decision the courts could have made. Hopefully, they will manage his estate and be respectful and true to his legacy, but regardless, that’s up to the siblings now, as it should be.

You’re not excited for the release of Iggy Azalea’s Digital Distortion.

FACT: Who? I’ve heard a few songs by Iggy Azalea and I have yet to be impressed. Jessi Colter’s new album excites me. Alice Cooper’s new album excites me. Hell, if Alvin and the Chipmunks release a new album, that would excite me. But this chick here? Not so much.

Stone Sour’s “Song #3” video was very entertaining.

FICTION: “Very entertaining” is a strong statement. I listened to the song and watched the video on YouTube and it was okay. Not bad or terrible by any means, but it really wasn’t anything special to me either. Just another generic and unoriginal video by another band. Nothing horrible, but just kind of there.

The Michael Jackson biopic from Lifetime looks awful.

FACT: I hate it when an entertainer that I liked has his or her life ripped apart and shredded by overzealous TV producers looking to make a quick buck and turn a career into the movie of the week, especially when the person being used as the subject isn’t here to defend his or herself. Lifetime isn’t really known for making insightful and inspiring movies. It’s about sensation, hitting on the high spots, glossing over the facts when it doesn’t fit the narrative and telling the story that fits the agenda rather than the truth, kind of like the main stream media and the so-called news networks when it comes to our President or politics in general. I won’t be watching this movie when it comes out and I hope that no one else does either. Michael is dead – leave him the hell alone.

You enjoyed Kendrick Lamar and Future’s “Mask Off” remix.

FICTION: I went and listened and while it was okay, it wasn’t anything special in my opinion and actually, considering what I’ve heard from Lamar in the past, somewhat kind of a letdown. It sounded more like just going through the motions than anything fresh or inspiring. I would expect better to be honest. I did and was let down.

And there you go. I’m through for now and need to go get ready for a lovely 11-hour day of fun, sun and happiness, only minus the fun, sun and happiness. I’m going to go sell liquor and listen to people scream on their cell phones. I hate a damn cell phone. And people. Oh vey! But regardless, that’s what I do. Thanks for reading. Thoughts and comments are welcome. I’m down and I’m gone. Catch you later, Alligator.
