Tossing Salt Presents:
Music Fact or Fiction
June 9, 2017
Well, I still can’t sleep. Work is going to be so much fun later today, don’t you know. So, since I’m up, I may as well keep on writing, right? I’ve already covered the political stuff with the “Opposing Views” piece. Then I followed with some “Wrestling Q&A”. So now, let’s complete the trilogy and do something about music. Yes, my friends, it’s that time for the weekly “Music Fact or Fiction” thingy. As per the usual, the statements to which I am either agreeing or not agreeing with come from my friends over at 411mania.com/music. And the answers come from that strange and warped place I call my mind. Let’s do this…
It’s not surprising that Donald Glover is putting an end to Childish Gambino.
FACT: He doesn’t seem to stick to much of any one thing for long and likes to keep his work fresh and different, so this isn’t really any kind of surprise at all. It’ll be interesting to see what he comes up with and does next. Childish Gambino has been interesting and pretty decent and I have no doubt that his future projects will be just as good.
Radiohead’s ‘I Promise’ was a very good track.
FACT: Almost everything that Radiohead does is usually somewhere between pretty good and great and while this isn’t a “great” song, it’s still pretty damn good.
It’s a good move to bring Hank Williams Jr back for Monday Night Football.
FACT: Honestly, does anyone even remember what it was that he said that got him fired from Monday Night Football to begin with? It’s a changing world and folks like Hank and his buddy Kid Rock are coming back in style, especially with the election of Donald Trump as President and people starting to get tired of too much political correctness. Hank Jr. can do little wrong and it should help the ratings for ESPN and their Monday Night Football broadcasts, not that they need much help, but still. It’s good to see Hank back.
You’re not interested in a Broadway musical based on Cher’s life.
FACT: I love Broadway, I love musicals and I love Cher (except when she talks politics), but I could care less about her life story being put to song and dance onstage. If there is a musical about any legendary singer, do Tina Turner. She’s already had a book and a movie and has a story worth telling again and again. Tina rocks! Cher? Just release an album every so often, play in Vegas and stay away from Broadway… please!
The video for Arcade Fire’s “Everything Now” was enjoyable.
FACT: It was okay and the song was good. I liked it well enough. And that’s all one can hope for these days.
You expect big things from the Nine Inch Nails EP trilogy.
FICTION: I expect it will be good enough. It’s Nine Inch Nails and they barely release anything unlistenable or bad. Will it be great? I don’t know, but I will probably make a point to listen to it when released. Even bad NIN is usually good.
And there you go. It’s a short one this week, but I’m starting to get tired. Time to try that bed thing again. Thank you for reading. Questions and comments are welcome and appreciated. Have a great night and I’ll catch you later.
Ubuntu!
