Tossing Salt Presents:
Music Fact or Fiction
June 17, 2017
And here we are again with another look at the sounds that make us happy, the world of music and “Music Fact or Fiction”. And unlike most editions of this particular column, this is one that I’m actually excited about. Well, the first statement anyhow. And the rest? We’ll see. As per usual, the questions and statements come from my long time, close and personal friends at 411mania.com/music. And how this works is that I look at a statement about music and either agree with it, stating “Fact” or I don’t, saying “Fiction”, and then I explain why. And now that you know the rules, let’s get on with it, shall we? Thank you for reading. And away we go…
You enjoyed Alice Cooper’s new song “Paranoiac Personality.”
FACT: As anyone who has known me for more than three minutes knows, I’m a big fan of Alice Cooper. I’ve got every album that I know of, including the “Life and Crimes” box set and many videos, t-shirts and even a Todd McFarlane action figure of “The Coop”. And yes, I’ve seen him perform live too. So when news broke of a new album coming out, I was totally jakked about it. And this first single, “Paranoiac Personality” is real and true Alice. It’s not the best thing he’s ever done, but it’s got a nice feel to it and I found myself liking it almost immediately. I don’t think this particular song will be breaking any chart records in sales, but it’s a good start to introduce a new generation to the true master entertainer and “King of Shock Rock”. I expect much success for Alice with this new material and album.
The Katy Perry/Taylor Swift feud is definitely over.
FICTION: I didn’t even know that there was a feud and to be honest about it, I could care less. I understand that Katy has offered an olive branch and wants to make peace and I expect that Taylor will eventually agree, but it won’t last. They’re both women and women are crazy and even when they say it’s over, it’s never really over and just put on hold for a bit until someone makes a comment or a percieved slight towards the other and then it’s back on like Charlie Sheen and hookers. It’s just a matter of time and then, (in best Karate Champ voice), “Round 2 – Fight!”
There’s no way Gene Simmons will be able to trademark the rock hand gesture.
FACT: I’m pretty sure that Simmons didn’t invent the hand gesture and it was going on long before he ever had the notion to file a copyright. Someone will protest, the copyright people will realize that this is just Simmons being a greedy and money-hungry bastard, and it will all be denied and forgotten.
News of a new Queens of the Stone Age album is exciting.
FACT: I’m not really a big fan of this band, but I’m sure that somewhere, someone is very excited and creaming their jeans at this news. Not me, but someone is and this “Fact” is for them.
The Killers’ new song “The Man” is an impressive return track.
FACT: I went and listened and I liked it. It’s got a strong beat, good lyrics and is sticking in my memory. That’s always a good sign… or a really bad sign, but for this, I think it’s a positive thing.
Ice Cube was a good choice to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
FACT: Between the “Fridays” franchise, the “Barber Shop” movies, and the “Ride Along” stuff, Ice Cube has definitely proven his chops as an actor and entertainer. That’s not even mentioning his career as a rap artist. There are over 2600 stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and quite a few of them have absolutely no reason to be there. But Ice Cube? He’s earned his spot and is definitely a good choice for the honor.
And there you go. Thanks for reading. Thoughts and comments are welcome and appreciated. Let me know what you think about this and all of the material I post here at the site. Inquiring minds want to know. And now, I’m headed to bed. The morning will be here far too early and I’m already dreading it. Have a great night and I’ll catch you on the flip side.
Ubuntu!
