Tossing Salt Presents:
Wrestling Fact or Fiction
June 18, 2017
It’s late on a Saturday night and I just finished watching the movie, “Hairspray”. The remake from a few years ago with Zac Efron and John Travolta and not the original. It’s a good movie with lots of singing, dancing and stuff. I like singing, dancing and stuff. I want to make a musical one day about serial killers. I just can’t write music. I can do lyrics and plot a story and do dialogue and all of that fun stuff, but when it comes to writing the score for the musical, I’m kind of useless. Anyone want to get together with me, do some brainstorming and see what we can do? If so, hit me up.
I have a theory and it’s actually wrestling related. You’re reading it here first, my friends. Heath Slater will eventually turn on Rhyno and become part of the “Miz posse”. Miz made the offer to Heath last week on RAW, but then Rhyno got involved and they ended up having a tag match with Heath and Rhyno versus Miz and a bear. The bear was Dean Ambrose and he cost Miz the match and Heath got the pin on the Intercontinental Champion. Yeah, okay, whatever. But I can see Miz keeping after Heath and eventually, Heath giving in and joining Miz as a partner / sidekick. The tag team with Rhyno is as stale as the cheese crackers that Rhyno keeps eating and this would be a good move for Heath, elevating his character and bringing him up the ladder to upper-mid card matches with Ambrose and other potential Miz opponents. I could even see Miz gathering several others to form his own “Posse” and potential clique, such as Curtis Axel or maybe Curt Hawkins. It wouldn’t be the same as headlining Wrestlemania for these guys, but it would be a step up from hanging out in catering all the time and being forgotten. And Heath needs to take that step up. After all, he has kids. Anyhow, that’s my theory and I think it’ll happen sooner rather than later. You’ll see.
And now, let’s get to why we’re here. It’s time to do that “Wrestling Fact or Fiction” bit where I take a look at six statements about the world’s greatest sport, provided by my dear friends over at 411mania.com/wrestling, and decide if I agree or not with them. If I agree, I say “Fact” and if I don’t, I say “Fiction”. And if I want to prove a point, I just say that anything you can do, I can do better… and then I do it, cause that’s how I roll. Speaking of rolling, let’s roll on and do this. And away we go…
1. Baron Corbin will win the men’s MITB match at Sunday’s PPV.
FICTION: I have nothing against Corbin winning and actually, he would be the best choice of the six men involved in this match. But that being said, this is the WWE and when does the logical and best choice ever matter? I’m expecting to see AJ Styles win the match, just because he’s AJ Styles and it would look good on his resume. I’d rather see Corbin… or Owens for that matter walk out with that briefcase and contract, but AJ is the big franchise player for Smackdown Live right now and he’ll reap the benefits of this status come Sunday night.
2. Roman Reigns’ Summerslam announcement will be a challenge to John Cena.
FICTION: It could happen and it would make sense, but I don’t think that they’ll pull the trigger on this potential match-up yet. There is still some unfinished business with Braun Strowman to take care of and a few other challenges to the “Big Dog” to defend his yard also going on. I think it’ll be a challenge to Samoa Joe and Brock Lesnar for Roman to face the winner of their match from Great Balls of Fire. That makes more sense right now.
3. You watch and enjoy 205 Live every week.
FICTION: I read the recaps and it looks like a good show, but it’s hard enough to watch RAW and Smackdown each week and then throw in the pay-per-view stuff and that’s already a lot of wrestling. Between work, my sad little attempts at a social life, my best friend / brother and his mini-me, writing stuff for my blog, working on my fan fic stories, doing my volunteer stuff and trying to find my next future life-mistake (he’s out there somewhere), watching 205 Live just doesn’t fit into the schedule. Bring back Jamie Noble, Juvi and Shawn Daivari and I’ll start to watch, but for now, I just don’t have the time.
4. Naomi will lose the Smackdown women’s title to Lana at MITB, and then be added to the women’s MITB match later that night.
FICTION: This is half true because I do think that Lana will find a way, probably named Rusev, to get past and defeat Naomi to capture the Women’s Championship. But I don’t think that we’ll see Naomi in the MITB match. It will be cool if it happens and could make for some interesting moments, but I just don’t expect it to happen. Whoever wins the MITB match though will beat Lana either tonight at the PPV or on Tuesday and be the new champion. I can definitely see that happen.
5. Portraying John Cena as a free agent upon his return is a good plan.
FICTION: I get why they do this. It’s John Cena and whatever show he’s on means ratings and that’s the bottom line they want. But it makes Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon, as the top guys on Smackdown, look like idiots because they let their top star just walk away. Maybe they’ll explain that Vince got involved and Cena’s free agency is one of his deals to allow Shane and Daniel to save face, but who knows? While they’re having top stars be free agents, why not have the “Champions” like Jinder, Owens, Miz, etc also be free agents and defend the titles on both shows too. While Champion, they work both brands, but as challengers, they only appear on one brand. Just an idea. But back to this. It’s Cena and he does what he wants to do and I get that. I just wish they had a better explanation than this whole “Free Agent” crap.
6. What is your level of excitement for Sunday’s WWE Money in the Bank PPV?
As the event draws closer, I’m getting more and more jakked for it. There isn’t a really bad match on the card and I’m looking forward to the kick-off match with the Hype Bros. versus The Colons, the two MITB matches and yes, even Jinder versus Orton. And since (spoiler) news broke about a few legends, such as Ric Flair, Sgt. Slaughter, Baron Von Raschke, Bob Orton Jr., etc being on hand for the event, I’m even more excited than ever. I like them old folks… lol. So yeah, I’m looking forward to this and on a scale of 1 to 10, I’d give it a big 7.5 in anticipation.
And there you go. That’s all for me tonight. Time to get on Facebook for a while and see if I can find Mr. Right Now. I’m down and gone and out of here, my friends. Thanks for reading. Have a great one and I’ll talk at you later.
