Wrestling Q&A – July 2, 2017

Tossing Salt Presents:
Wrestling Q&A
July 2, 2017

Welcome to another exciting edition of Wrestling Q&A. I’m cooking baked beans, doing laundry AND writing this column. Call me Mr. Multitasker. It’s not as impressive as Ole Anderson running and booking both the Mid-Atlantic region AND the Georgia territory at the same time, having major success with both areas at the same time in the 80’s, but I do what I can. I’m actually procrastinating on another writing project, but so long as I can get something accomplished today, then yay for me. Are you ready to talk some professional wrestling, aka the “King of Sports”? I am and away we go. The questions come from the pages of Facebook. The answers are all mine.

Dennis asks, “What’s the first thing you think of when you hear the word ‘wrestling’?”

I think of men and women out there, living their dreams, entertaining people and sacrificing it all, because that’s exactly what they do.

Cory says, “Jerry Flynn was my favorite WCW enhancement guy. Who was yours?”

Mark Starr was one of my favorites and I loved his “Men At Work” tag team with a young Chris Kanyon. Also, the wily veteran Bob Cook was always great to watch perform.

From Impact, “Who deserves/deserved more to break Flair’s 16 World Championship reigns record and why?: John Cena, Edge, Triple H or Randy Orton.”

Cena has already tied it, but no one deserves to be able to say that they “broke” Flair’s record because it doesn’t matter if someone wins the current titles a hundred times, they still can’t match the traveling schedule, the number of matches or the large variety of opponents that Flair wrestled day in and day out. It was a different era and a different time, but the champs today can not be compared to what men like Flair accomplished. Diamonds are forever and so is Ric Flair.

Jeffrey asks, “Who is your favorite Japanese wrestler?”

For his ability and abilities in the ring, the Great Muta. For just pure showmanship, I’ll go with Tokyo Magnum. And my current favorite active Japanese superstar is current NXT Women’s Champion Asuka.

Jazzi asks, “Great Muta in his prime vs AJ Styles in his prime…who you got?”

As mush as I hate to admit it, the wrestlers today are so much more athletic and talented than the wrestlers of even twenty years ago. In his day, Muta was one of the very best in the world, but AJ Styles IS among the best right now. It would be one helluva match to see and if they went ten straight matches, I think they’d both tie at five apiece. But if it went to sudden death and Match 11, I think AJ has the edge and would take home the overall victory. Muta is amazing and a true wrestling artist at his best, but AJ is truly phenomenal. ‘Nuff said!

Cody says “Does anyone else think James Ellsworth is booked perfectly? His face gimmick naturally had a very short shelf life but they turned him right before the fans turned on him. Big names like Reigns and Cena could have benefitted from the same.”

With Ellsworth, the WWE has done everything right almost from Day 1. I’d like to see him eventually become more of a manager type with a few more clients, much like Titus is doing, but so far, no complaints at all.

Jeramiah asks, “If you could book the SummerSlam main event, what would it be?”

A double main event of John Cena versus Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar defending the Universal Championship in a triple threat match against Samoa Joe and Bray Wyatt.

Jesse asks, “Who is your favorite Canadian wrestler?”

I love Kevin Owens and Lance Storm has always been a favorite, but the absolute best, bar none in my eyes, has to be “Captain Charisma” Christian, aka Jay Reso. I’m currently wearing one of his t-shirts today and while he may be a “Creepy Little Bastard” to some, I will always be a die-hard Peep and fan of the man, who may or may not have a jar of “ass cream” in his bag.

And that’s that for now. I think it’s getting ready to rain so I’ve got to head outside and put the windows on my Blazer up. Thanks for reading. Comments and thoughts are welcome and appreciated. Take care and I’ll catch you later. Have a great one.
