Tossing Salt Wrestling Q&A

Good morning and greetings from the big city of Laurinburg, NC and the home of the most eclectic website ever, just like it’s daddy, DougMaynard.com. I’m Doug and you’re not. Time to climb inside that squared circle and do a little professional wrestling Q&A. It’s the world’s greatest sport, bar none. And for those of you who may question the validity of this classic form of physical entertainment, five words for you. “It’s not fake! It’s fixed!”. And there you go. Let’s answer some questions, shall we?
Jerry asks, “If you were given the chance to make a “Mount Rushmore” for wrestling managers, who would your picks be?”
For the top wrestling managers, I’ve have to have five slots instead of four. I’d really need about a dozen or so spots if I wanted to name the men who truly represented in my eyes what a manager for our business should be because everyone has different talents and strengths and their own characters. But the best of the best, in my opinion, would be Jim Cornette, Paul Heyman, Bobby Heenan, Captain Lou Albano and Gary Hart. Honorable mention to Sir Oliver Humperdink, Jimmy Hart, Sherri Martel, etc, but those five I named first are the best of the best in my opinion.
Also from Jerry, “Same question, but with masked wrestlers.”
This one is a little easier because while every territory had their “masked villains” prowling around, the men who wore that hood and worked as top stars in many different areas were few and far between. My selections would be Mr. Wrestling II (Johnny Walker), The Masked Assassin (Jody Hamilton), Mil Mascaras and the best of all time, in my opinion of course, The Masked Superstar (Bill Eadie).
Larry asks, “What celebrity do you think would make a good addition to the WWE roster?”
In the current WWE, no one comes to mind immediately, but I remember a time that they brought in Kevin Federline to promote his album and have a rivalry with John Cena. Federline was such a natural heel and had so much heat, but did a damn good job in his appearances. From all reports at the time, he was well liked and extremely respectful backstage as well. I remember being surprised at the time that the WWE didn’t really follow up w/ Kevin and Cena after their feud. He was a good talker and had great charisma and would have made a great manager for the WWE at the time. Hell, even now, I’d bet he could walk into a ring and within a matter of minutes have the entire crowd hating his guts, even worse than they do Roman Reigns now. I know he’s financially set for life (thank you Britney Spears) and playing daddy to his kids most of the time, but he did a great job all those years ago and could probably do a great job now as a manager / spokesman. WWE should look into that.
Matt asks, “Do you think Paige will ever be back in the WWE?”
Everyone loves a good comeback story and to see someone redeem themselves after hitting rock bottom. So long as she’s with Alberto Del Rio or whatever he’s calling himself now, she won’t be back, but if she ever smartens up and dumps that baggage, I think that WWE would gladly welcome her back with open arms.
Bill asks, “Do you think we’ll ever see Dixie Carter as part of the WWE?”
I think we’ll be seeing her sooner rather than later. Maybe even next week on RAW.
Mike asks, “What do you think of the addition of Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel to Miz’s entourage?”
I love it. Bo and Curtis are fantastic talents and third generation superstars who were being ignored and wasted and now, they’ve got nice prominent spots on the roster where they belong. This gives the men a chance to get a little TV time and show some of their personality, something they touched upon with the Social Misfits, but never really had any kind of push. Now, by being aligned with Miz, the push is almost certain to come. What I’d really like though is to see Bo and Axel be part of the tag team title picture and with the help of Miz and Maryse, maybe even get a short run with the titles. Can you imagine the heat the “Miztourage” would have if they held both the IC title with Miz and the tag titles with Bo and Axel? That would be, dare I say it, AWESOME!
Joey asks, “If you were given the chance to create three shows for the WWE Network, what would they be?”
Three shows for the Network? That would be cool to do for sure. My first show would be a “Special Event” consisting of legends and former stars from the past. Show it on the Network as part of the Survivor Series weekend or even as a stand-alone special during the long PPV break before Wrestlemania. Bring in announcers from the past like Ross & Lawler, with Mean Gene Okerlund doing interviews. Give it a real “old school feel” with the matches and atmosphere and just run with it. My second show would be a monthly “Where Are They Now” series where updates on the current lives of four past Superstars or territory wrestlers would be presented. And the third would be a monthly documentary style piece that either confirms or shoots down the urban legends of professional wrestling, telling what the story is, how it supposedly originated and most importantly, is it true or not.
Robert asks, “If you could spend a weekend hanging out with 3 wrestlers who would you pick?”
Harley Race, Ole Anderson and The Miztourage (Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel). I figure if Bo and Axel can share a “Mizzie”, then they can share a spot on my list as well.
And there you go, my friends. Another Q&A in the books. Thanks for reading and now, I’m going to go fold clothes and go to bed. It’s nearly 2:00am and I need my beauty sleep. Questions, comments and thoughts are welcome. Take care and I’ll catch you later.
Ubuntu!
