Are you ready for some wrestling? It’s the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. Let’s do this.
Hear me out. Next time AEW is in Canada, CM Punk dethrones Orange Cassidy. Yes or no?
I would love to see this happen. It gives Punk a title to work with, takes him out of the World Championship picture so MJF can work with different people, and would cement him as a heel by taking out fan-favorite Orange Cassidy in what would probably be a damn good match. This idea sounds good to me.
Do you ever see Forbidden Door being held in Japan, or do you think the Japanese crowd wouldn’t appreciate AEW as much?
I don’t see it happening in Japan for one reason. It wouldn’t be cost-effective for AEW, plus with the time-zone differences, it would have to air at like 3:00 in the AM and that would kill out half the audience. And now that I think of it, as tough as the anti-drug laws are in Japan, most of the roster of AEW who likes to partake in the smoking of left-handed cigarettes wouldn’t be allowed into the country and would risk being arrested. There would be more cons than pros to holding the event in Japan. It wouldn’t be worth the effort.
With Ospreay saying he wants Wembley and Wembley wanting him, what do you think his place on the card will be? Omega III or something different?
I’d probably go for Ospreay versus Omega III with a stipulation added. It’d be a good match that people want to see and it has to be done eventually.
Now that the lWo has been revived, who would you want to see in a WWE Four Horsemen?
WWE can’t do another Four Horsemen faction for two reasons. Arn Anderson owns the name and copyright for the name “Four Horsemen” as related to wrestling so unless he’s involved and allows it, it can’t happen. And also, without a connection to the original team, who would buy it or accept a new faction? You’d need either Arn or Flair and they fired Arn, while Flair is undependable and would be more problems than he’s worth these days. But that being said, if it was to happen, my picks for the group, using the current roster, would be: Dolph Ziggler, Xavier Woods, Bron Breakker & Riddick Moss.
What’s your honest opinion on Hurricane Helms?
Shane Helms is a talented wrestler, a good promo guy, and a very unique character who took a lame gimmick and made it into something unique and amazing. I’ve been a fan of Helms since his days with Three Count in WCW and he’s always been able to stand out from the crowd and make a strong impression. A very underrated performer who will one day be part of the WWE Hall of Fame.
Does George South belong in the WWE Hall of Fame?
It’s a tough call because he’s had a fantastic career that continues to this day and he’s a legend in the southern United States as the consummate job-guy who never failed to perform or have a good match. If there was ever a Jobbers Hall of Fame, he’d be among the first to be inducted, but the WWE Hall of Fame? Probably not going to happen.
You get to choose the stipulation for Cody versus Brock III. What kind of match would it be?
Part of me wants to say a Dusty Rhodes-style match like the Texas Bullrope Match or a Bunkhouse Stampede, but I don’t know how well those would fit with Brock ad Cody’s different styles. If there has to be a stipulation, let’s go with a good old-fashioned steel cage match, maybe Hell in a Cell.
So Jungle Boy Jack Perry is a heel now. Thoughts?
This is a good move because Perry needed to do something to reinvent his character. From the reports of how Perry acts at signings and in his personal life, it’s like Hulk Hogan changing to Hollywood Hogan, and just being his real self instead of pretending to be a good guy. I’d like to see him hook up with Christian and learn from one of the best on the subtle ways to get that heel character over. Maybe there’s hope for Perry yet? Nah, he’s still Jack Perry, aka Jungle Boy. He’ll still suck!
The Elite (Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks, Hangman Page) versus Evolution (Triple H, Randy Orton, Ric Flair, Batista). Who wins?
This one goes to Evolution. It’d probably be a decent match as six of the competitors sort of know what they’re doing, but the size, ability, experience, and wrestling advantages all go to the WWE’s elite franchise. Evolution wins.
What’s more important? A match with lots of action or a great story told in the context of a wrestling match? In-ring skills or characters?
Matches are okay, but for me, it’s all about the characters and the stories being told. It’s not even close.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions are welcome and appreciated. And with that, let’s wrap this up. Take care and be well, my friends. Watch out for foreign objects and I’ll see you at the matches.
