Thoughts & Predictions

DougMaynard.com
Coming tonight, from Trenton, NJ, at the Cure Insurance Arena, it’s Ring of Honor’s Death Before Dishonor PPV. And you know what that means, right? It’s prediction time.
ROH Women’s Champion Athena vs. Owen Hart Foundation Tournament winner Willow Nightingale.
These two have wrestled a few times and after her success recently in Japan, I think that Nightingale is the new flavor of the month for AEW, I mean ROH. Sorry, I get them confused these days as it’s hard to tell where one roster starts and the other stops. Athena has been the ROH Women’s Champion for a while and while her reign has been unimpressive, she can still claim it on her resume. I think we’ll see a title switch here.
Winner and NEW ROH Women’s Champion: Willow Nightingale
ROH Champion Claudio Castagnoli vs. Pac.
Pac turned on the BBC at the Blood & Guts event at Dynamite two nights ago. Now Claudio needs to get revenge. This should be a great match, but I don’t think the vengeance that Claudio seeks will be happening just yet. I think we’ll have a new ROH Champion in Pac.
Winner and NEW ROH Champion: Pac
ROH Tag Team Champions The Lucha Brothers (Penta & Fenix) vs. The Kingdom (Matt Taven & Mike Bennett) vs. Best Friends (Chuck Taylor & Trent Baretta) vs. Aussie Open (Mark Davis and Kyle Fletcher).
While we’re talking about title changes, I think we’ll have yet another one here. The Lucha Brothers are a great team, but the great thing about multiple-team matches is that new champions can be crowned, but the champions don’t have to be the ones that they beat for the titles. I think Maria Kanellis and The Kingdom are ready to step into the spotlight of being Champions that no one knows about or sees. Look for The Kingdom to win.
Winners and NEW ROH Tag Team Champions: The Kingdom (Mike Bennett & Matt Taven) w/ Maria Kanellis.
ROH TV Champion Samoa Joe vs. Dalton Castle.
This is one belt that won’t be changing hands unless there is interference. I would love to see Dalton Castle with gold around his waist, but who would interfere? The Boys? That’s a possibility, but who has a grudge against Joe and might want to cause him to lose a title? Maybe someone that Joe attacked after a match a week or so ago? Hmmmm. Let’s go with that.
Winner and NEW ROH TV Champion: Dalton Castle
ROH Pure Wrestling Champion Katsuyori Shibata vs. Daniel Garcia.
I’m not even sure who Shibata is, but I do know who Daniel Garcia is. Is Garcia ready to wear ROH Singles Gold? He might be, but it won’t happen here.
Winner and STILL ROH Pure Wrestling Champion: Katsuyori Shibata
ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champions Brian Cage & Bishop Kaun & Toa Liona with Prince Nana vs. NJPW’s Ryusuke Taguchi & Master Wato & Leon Ruffin.
Six names and I only know one of them. That’s more than enough though. Prince Nana’s group of Brian Cage, Bishop Kaun, and Toa Liona are keeping their belts.
Winners and STILL ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champions: Brian Cage, Bishop Kaun, and Toa Liona w/ Prince Nana
Dark Order (Evil Uno, John Silver, Alex Reynolds) vs. The Righteous (Dutch, Bateman & Vincent) in a Fight Without Honor.
Never bet against Evil Uno. The Dark Order is coming back and this match will be the beginning.
Winners: The Dark Order
Komander vs. Gravity.
No man can defy gravity for long. Just ask Owen Hart. GROAN! Yeah, my bad! But he’s going to win. He always does.
Winner: Gravity
Leyla Hirsch vs. Trish Adora.
I know Leyla Hirsch. I don’t know Trish Adora, but there is only one Trish in Women’s Professional Wrestling, and this gal? She’s not it. Look for Leyla to take the win here.
Winner: Leyla Hirsch.
Shane Taylor vs. AR Fox.
Shane Taylor is a talented guy that’s left over from the old pre-Khan ROH. I’ve seen AR FOx on a few episodes of the YouTube shows that used to be and he’s an impressive guy as well. This might be the surprise match of the night where both men make an impact. Okay, probably not, but one can hope. Let’s go for AR Fox to capture the win.
Winner: AR Fox
Pure Rules Match: Josh Woods vs. Tracy Williams.
I don’t know either man here, but I used to have a roommate many years ago and her sister’s married name was Traci Williams. It’s a sign. Look for Tracy Williams to win here.
Winner: Tracy Williams
Action Andretti & Darius Martin vs. The WorkHorsemen (Anthony Henry & JD Drake).
So this is where Action Andretti vanished after his big win over Jericho. He gets to hang out with Darius Martin while Martin waits for his brother to heal from a broken leg. And they’re fighting the WorkHorsemen. I like the name, but I wonder what Arn Anderson thinks of it. For that blasphemous identity, the WorkHorsemen must lose.
Winners: Action Andretti & Darius Martin
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions are welcome and appreciated. Be sure to share, like, and subscribe. And with that, what are your predictions? Are you watching the ROH PPV tonight? Personally, I’ll be watching Smackdown myself and keeping up with the PPV via PWInsider.com. It’s a loaded card for ROH, but it’s not that must-see or exciting in my opinion. Just a dozen matches thrown together with little story or substance behind them. I still want to know who wins though. Let me know what you think. And with that, let’s wrap it up. Take care and be well, my friends. And I’ll see you at the matches.
