Impact Wrestling Victory Road 2023
Thoughts & Predictions
September 8, 2023
DougMaynard.com
Later tonight, live from White Plains, New York, is Impact Wrestling’s Victory Road 2023 pay-per-view. And you know what that means? It’s prediction time. I’m Doug and I’ve broken out the crystal ball. Let’s see what lies ahead later tonight.
Impact Knockouts Champion Trinity vs. Alisha Edwards.
Trinity is still the big name from the WWE who is trying to prove herself and get redemption for the mean way that WWE treated her. She’s been the champion for a couple of months and even though I don’t think a woman whose finishing move is hitting someone with her ass should be champion, Impact Wrestling surely does. Trinity retains.
Winner and STILL Impact Knockouts Champion: Trinity Fatu
Impact Digital Media Champion Kenny King (with Sheldon Jean) vs. Tommy Dreamer -If Dreamer Loses, he must retire.
Dreamer has had a rough past year and the time and mileage on his body has taken its toll. I think he’s ready to call it a day and stick to a backstage capacity instead of continually putting his body and health on the line. But Kenny King? He’s a good wrestler, but is he of the “retire the ECW legend” quality? It just doesn’t feel right to me. I think we’ll get a miracle ending and Dreamer will survive to fight another day.
Winner and NEW Impact Digital Media Champion: Tommy Dreamer
X-Division Champion Lio Rush vs. KUSHIDA.
Lio has had his moment in the sun and to be honest, I’m surprised he hasn’t “gotten injured” and “retired/quit” again. That seems to be his motto more often than not over the past couple of years. Just ask New Japan, MLW, and AEW. I think we’re seeing a title switch here. Lio is good, but he’s no Miguel Perez and he sure as hell is no KUSHIDA. That belt is changing hands.
Winner and NEW X-Division Champion: KUSHIDA
Impact Wrestling Tag Team Champions The Rascalz vs. The Motor City Machine Guns, Impact Wrestling Champion Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin.
Shelley is already the Impact Wrestling World Champion, so does he need two belts? The MCMGs are the better team, but the champs, The Rascalz, are keeping their gold.
Winners and STILL Impact Wrestling Tag Team Champions: The Rascalz
Impact Wrestling Knockouts Tag Team Champions Masha Slamovich & Killer Kelly vs. Gisele Shaw & Savannah Evans.
Slamovich and Kelly just won the titles a few weeks ago and Slamovich is a woman that Impact Wrestling seems to want to push hard and make a top star. But they also seem to want to do the same with Gisele Shaw, so who wins out here? Shaw seems a bit entitled in my eyes so let’s go for Slamovich & Kelly to retain their titles.
Winners and STILL Impact Wrestling Knockout Champions: Masha Slamovich & Killer Kelly.
Josh Alexander vs. Steve Maclin.
Alexander is an amazing talent, but I believe this is Maclin’s first time back on an Impact Wrestling PPV in a while after having to take time off for an injury. Alexander won’t be hurt by a loss and Maclin has to get the ball rolling and reestablish his momentum as he heads towards the main events.
Winner: Steve Maclin
Deonna Purrazzo vs. Jordynne Grace.
I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it before, but Jordynne Grace has done a remarkable job in getting into shape this past year. She was a true chunky monkey, but she hit the gym and looked amazing. But that being said, I still recall her comments about Chris Benoit and how quickly she tried to walk back after getting called out. Yes, Jordy, I remember. Purrazzo wins.
Winner: Deonna Purrazzo.
Bully Ray vs. PCO – Anything Goes.
Anything goes so this should be right up Bully’s alley, especially since he and D-Von are reuniting for the 1000th episode of Impact Wrestling. PCO is amazing at times, but I think that at some point tonight, we’ll hear Bully tell his long-time partner to “Get the tables!” and PCO will end up eating a 3-D.
Winner: Bully Ray.
Crazzy Steve vs. Black Taurus.
This should be the opening and it will be a chaotic brawl from the very start. Just imagine the late, great Gordon Solie talking about Pier Six Brawls and Crimson Masks and that’ll pretty much work for this match as well. As for who wins, it could go either way, but I’ll put my bet on Crazzy Steve.
Winner: Crazzy Steve.
Ace Austin & Chris Bey vs. Moose & Brian Myers.
Austin and Bey are the established team and are former Tag Team Champions. Moose & Myers are both good characters and this will be a fun match, but I just don’t see them as a good team. Look for Austin and Bey to win.
Winners: Ace Austin & Chris Bey.
Alan Angels issues an open challenge.
Wouldn’t it be nice to see Aaron Solow, from AEW, be the man to respond, so that Alan and Aaron can continue their “feud” from the Sammy Guevera VLOG? I’d like to see it anyhow. Maybe another former AEW alumni whom Alan has a history with, Fuego Del Sol? Yeah, that would be fun too, but I doubt it will be either of those men. The challenge will probably be answered by former partner Big Kon, aka Konner from the tag team, The Ascension. And I never bt against Angels. A in the chats. Alan wins.
Winner: Alan Angels.
And there you go with my predictions. So am I right or wrong? What do you think? Let me know in the comments, along with any other thoughts or questions you may have. It’d be much appreciated. And with that, let’s wrap things up. Take care and be well, my friends. Watch out for flying chairs and tables, and I’ll see you at Victory Road.
