Are you ready to do it one more time? It’s the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. And away we go. Let’s do this.
Wade Barrett versus Gunther. Who wins?
Barrett has addressed this possible match before and said that he’s not planning on coming out of retirement to fight Gunther. But with that in mind, Barrett in his prime against Gunther would be one hell of a fun match to see. They’re similar in size and build, and while Gunther is deadly with the chops, Barrett is a legit bare-knuckles fighting champion. So who would win? Hey Barrett, I’m afraid I’ve got some bad news for you. Gunther would win.
So how about this? Challenging Judgement Day for the Undisputed Tag Team Titles, R-Truth & Brock Lesnar. Thoughts?
Finn & Damion Priest versus Brock & R-Truth. Just for the build and promos alone, that would be such a fun match to see. And poor Dom would end up getting F-5’ed at least a dozen times. But Truth would end up taking the fall after a clip from Mami, and thus the winners would be The Judgement Day.
Jade Cargill is back. Thoughts?
This question was presented before the news broke that most likely, Cargill was only back to finish up and maybe going to WWE soon. She has a great look, as always, but her wrestling skills haven’t seemed to improve much as she quickly did the job to Kris Statlander on AEW Rampage. I’m not interested in her much as part of AEW, so let’s just wait and see what comes next. I’m getting Eva Marie vibes about the thought of Cargill in WWE, but we’ll just have to see what happens.
Where is Elias?
Probably just walking around backstage, eating well in catering, and waiting for WWE Creative to decide what to do with him. I don’t recall seeing anything about him being injured, so essentially, he’s just stuck in creative limbo at the moment.
Brett Wayne Sawyer passed away. Thoughts?
The young brother of Mad Dog Buzz Sawyer, I mainly remember this guy from a couple of years in Georgia where he was presented as the good-guy babyface trying to convince his brother to come over the side of light and right. He was pretty generic as I remember, but I seem to recall he and Larry Zbyszko having some issues and Sawyer got a lot of press in the Apter Mags for that period in the mid-80s. I wouldn’t consider him a great wrestler, but for the territories, he made his mark and had a good career. My condolences to his family, fans, and friends.
Impact Wrestling announced that it will be inducting Mike Tenay and the late Don West into its Hall of Fame. Thoughts?
It’s a thoughtful gesture by Impact Wrestling as the Professor was the voice of the company for a long time and West, made them a lot of money in sales and promotions, while also working as the color guy at the announce table. Both men were huge parts of Impact Wrestling’s early success and these inductions are well deserved.
If AEW started a Hall of Fame, who should be the first person inducted?
While I would hope they’d pay homage to the legends of the past like The Horsemen, The Hart Family, etc., the first inductee should be a current member of the AEW Family. I’m talking about the man called Sting.
Prince Nana recently signed a multi-year contract extension with AEW. Thoughts?
I’m happy for Prince Nana, but to be honest, why? I’ve only seen bits and pieces of his work in ROH and the only thing I can remember him from is the Roast of Jim Cornette. He’s a B-rated Indy Manager, nothing more. I’m glad he’s getting a steady paycheck and the big money now, but based on everything I’ve seen of him thus far in AEW/ROH when they remember him and decide to use him, all I can do is ask why.
What are your thoughts on Killer Tim Brooks?
A legend of the territory days and a tough, crazy dude. I mainly remember two things about Tim Brooks. He had a very brief run in the Mid-Atlantic region where he played Blackjack Mulligan’s crazy “Cousin Luke” and knocked out Ox Baker with a boot during a televised match of Baker versus Mulligan. And the other thing is Brooks winning the NWA National Championship and then “selling” the title to Larry Zbyszko. This was the angle that WWF stole to use later on with Ted DiBiase, Andre the Giant, and the WWF Championship. So Brooks beat Mr. Wrestling II to win the title and then sold it to Zbyszko. The NWA stripped Zbyszko of the belt and had a tournament. And Zbyszko won the tournament, with Brooks’s help, to get the Championship anyhow. Brooks was a reliable heel and good talent. Very underrated to be sure.
True or false? Professional wrestling was 100% better when nobody knew anything about backstage activities.
Back in the days when we didn’t know politics, dirty laundry, and the backstage drama, but instead would just watch, enjoy, and believe. It was the best of times for fans and wrestling in general. So very true.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions are welcome and appreciated. Be sure to like, share, and subscribe. And with that, let’s wrap things up. I’ve only got about sixty more questions to tackle before I’m caught up. Take care and be well, my friends. Watch out for foreign objects and I’ll see you at the matches. And that is all the people need to know. Until the next time.
