My apologies for the delay in the new columns as of late. I’ve been under the weather & slacking. But we’re playing catch-up now. You’re welcome. It’s the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. Let’s do this.
Ric Flair recently walked out of the “Kill Tommy” Comedy Roast after allegedly getting upset about jokes about his son, Reid, who died back in 2013 from a heroin overdose. Thoughts?
I’ve watched the clips and while some of the jokes were rough, it’s a roast and to be expected. And Ric was plastered from the very start and indifferent to the surroundings more often than not, texting on his phone instead of cooperating with the ongoing activities. Ric didn’t belong there and while his speech at the end was moving, coming from Flair, it was also very hypocritical and a load of bunk. It was a hard scene to watch and with Flair already plastered to start with, it just made it that much worse.
According to Hulk Hogan, there were some thoughts about Nick Hogan versus Shane McMahon as a match for Wrestlemania 39. Thoughts?
I’ve always wondered why Nick didn’t get involved in pro wrestling at some point. Allegedly, he spent a couple of years training with Rikishi but had some shoulder injuries, but with that personality and character, he was a natural heel and would have made a great wrestling character. Even if just a manager or announcer, he would have been excellent in my opinion. And Nick Hogan versus Shane McMahon? The match itself would probably have sucked eggs, but the build and promos would have been excellent. The story writes itself. Too bad it didn’t happen. It would have been epic.
Paul Orndorff versus Chief Wahoo McDaniel. Who wins?
A great clash of conflicting characters and styles. this would have been a fun match to see. And my money would be on Wahoo. Why? Because it’s Wahoo McDaniel. What more reason do you need?
The Florida State Attorney recently called Tammy Sytch a “danger to society” and is seeking a 26-year jail sentence for the former Sunny. Too much?
In my opinion, not enough. Sytch being called a danger to society is an understatement at best. She has no soul and is just a vile, evil, person. And yes, life made her that way, but actions have consequences and her actions speak for themselves.
Fred Rosser, aka Darren Young, will be making his ROH debut this upcoming weekend. Thoughts?
Rosser is a good wrestler and talented performer so I’m hoping this all works out and he had a good run and career. I’m afraid that, as often par to happens in AEW/ROH, Rosser will get a push, start to get some momentum, and then go home for six months, forgotten and neglected. It’ll be interesting to see how things work out, but I’m happy for Rosser and wish him the very best.
So Christian told Adam Copeland to, “Go f*** yourself!”. Thoughts?
Christian is the best heel currently in wrestling and this response, to his true life best friend and long-time partner, Adam Copeland. It’s great wrestling and great television. So Christian versus Adam? Works for me.
The Butcher & The Blade versus The B-Team (Bo Dallas & Curtis Axel). Who wins?
Nothing against the Butcher and The Blade, but Bo & Axel are anything but B-team players. So underrated and so damn good, they never really got the push they deserved in my opinion. Bo & Axel win, as they should.
Thoughts on Mr. Wrestling II?
Former journeyman, Rubber Man Johnny Walker put on a mask as his career started to pass its peak, and became a wrestling legend. Mr. Wrestling II was the man for many years in Georgia, with side trips to Florida, Crockett, and the Mid-South. He was a decent wrestler and a decent talker, and the fans in Georgia loved him. H came across to me as a bit of an ass, something that reports backstage behavior support, but he literally put the butts in the seats and drew money. I guess that’s all that matters. He left behind a great legacy, had a great character, some awesome feuds with the likes of Masked Superstar, Magnum TA, and many others, and belongs in the WWE Hall of Fame for that alone.
Thoughts on Toni Storm’s “timeless” gimmick in AEW?
Toni has taken the steps and transformed herself into a diva-style, old-school movie star. She’s gone from a bland, generic character to a unique flashback to old-style Hollywood. It’s an old-school move and has made her interesting, distinct, and fun to watch, unlike the rest of the AEW show. I’m interested in seeing where this goes. It was a nice reinvention for Storm and maybe what she needed to break the glass ceiling and move to the top.
So how about this? Adam Copeland, Hangman Adam Page, and Adam Cole as a Trios Team in AEW called The Adams Family? Thoughts?
This idea is creepy, kooky, mysterious, and ooky. It’s altogether spooky. I like it. Hey Tony Khan, make it happen.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions are welcome and appreciated. Also, be sure to like, share, and subscribe. And with that, let’s wrap this up and call it a night. Take care and be well, my friends. Watch out for special announcements by Tony Khan. I’ll see you at the matches.
