It’s the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. Are you ready for the AM edition? Let’s roll.
Lexis King, fka Brian Pillman Jr., has requested that his fans quit calling themselves “Registered Lex Offenders”. Thoughts?
I don’t blame Pillman for not liking that nickname that’s being used by his fans. It’s extremely cringy at best and while I can see the cleverness, it’s not something that you can put on a t-shirt. The King fans need to find another nickname for their cult-like group.
So the Von Erichs will be on Dynamite this Wednesday. Do you think Christian will come out and talk about their father? And Grandfather?
I wish he had. The segment that featured the Von Erichs, along with Orange Cassidy and Danhausen, was just bad. The Von Erichs are in Dallas, Texas and the promoter uses them for a backstage interview segment with two comedy wrestlers and talk to set up a match on Rampage. Christian making comments about their family would have been so much better.
Whatever happened to Elix Skipper?
Elix Skipper retired from pro wrestling after being released from TNA in March 2008 and has yet to return. It’s a shame because this guy was damn good.
According to Eric Bischoff, buying ROH was a bad decision by Tony Khan and should be shut down. Thoughts?
I’m not going to say it was a bad investment in terms of the video library and in the hands of someone else like Vince McMahon perhaps, it could be a valuable asset. But as it is, Tony gets absolutely nothing from the video library, has presented and booked it like a third-rate Indy promotion that exists in name only, and it’s got to be a huge money pit for AEW and Khan’s wallet. He’s got a great toy but doesn’t know what to do with it or how to use it properly. It’s like he bought the Hope Diamond, but uses it to hold down papers on his desk. It could have been a big deal and a good thing, but in Tony’s hands, Bischoff is 100% correct.
Is the AEW “Devil” just a 2023 version of WCW’s “Black Scorpion”? Thoughts?
Yes, but the talents involved in this angle as compared to the Scorpion angle are not quite as smart to the business, good, or talented.
Would you rather be trapped in an elevator for six hours with Jamie Dundee, Vince Russo, or Tammy Sytch?
Dundee by far. I’ve got friends who are like Jamie in many ways and so dealing with him, even alone in an elevator, would be a been there-done that scenario. Russo annoys me and Sytch is a waste of humanity. Jamie may be wild, but he’s not a bad person and could be fun.
CM Punk name-dropped Mickie James during his promo on RAW Monday night. Do you think that’s a hint that Mickie is coming back to WWE?
She’s currently not under contract as far as I know with TNA, even though she is still taking bookings with them, plus her husband is now part of WWE as the General Manager of Smackdown. It may not be for a full-time return, but I think we’ll see Mickie back in WWE sooner rather than later.
Does Bron Breakker have what it takes to be a main-event star for WWE? I don’t see it. Thoughts?
He’s got all the tools and is just looking for the right time and place. Breakker will be a top guy for the WWE before long. You may not see it, but I can feel it.
Which career do you prefer: Victoria or Ivory?
Ivory. Victoria is one of my favorites and she had an excellent career, but the career of Lisa Moretti, aka Ivory, is hard to top. She started with the original GLOW and then later, POWW, both promotions, and shows by David MacLane. And then she came to WWE and had a fantastic career, working as a wrestler, commentator, trainer, valet, etc. And then she worked a few Indy shows and got her well-deserved spot in the WWE Hall of Fame. Ivory went from being a GLOW girl to being a wrestling Icon and Legend. And there you go.
Estimates from Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics have suggested All Elite Wrestling will lose $34 million in 2023. Thoughts?
AEW talks a good game, but the costs of running the company and keeping it afloat are far exceeding the revenue they’re bringing. It happens in pro wrestling and WCW lost millions before Eric Bischoff was able to turn things around and make a profit for a few years. WWE had a few rough years, but Vince and Linda McMahon were able to keep things mostly in the black for the huge majority of their ownership of the company. This sounds bad, but based on the money that Tony Khan and his daddy have, it’s not a major issue as of yet. It takes time to make a profit in professional wrestling and Tony is willing to spend as much money as he needs to keep the show going. Until they improve the shows and make AEW a must-see, high-quality program, things are not going to get better. It is what it is and nothing more.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions are welcome and appreciated. Be sure to like, share, and subscribe. And with that, let’s wrap it up. Take care and be well, my friends. Watch out for foreign objects and I’ll see you at the matches.
