Another day, another doctor appointment, and another edition of the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. What more can a person ask for? Let’s roll.
From Meltzer: “Things are changing greatly. Let’s just say things changed greatly with Raw negotiations from a few weeks ago. And Punk is a huge part of the selling point.” So WWE Raw to WBD? Thoughts?
News has been breaking all week about meetings between Nick Khan and Triple H and Warner Brothers Discovery and it looks as if WBD is truly a top contender for securing the rights to RAW in 2024. From what I understand, now that Vince McMahon is not part of the discussions, the “exclusivity agreement” that WWE has pushed so strongly in the past isn’t a requirement now, and the addition of WWE to either TBS or TNT, so removes a huge barrier and could allow AEW and WWE to co-exist on the same network. It’s going to be very interesting to see how all of this turns out in the end. It has to be killing Meltzer to admit that Punk is a factor that’s making WBD want WWE even more and has no influence. This is something to keep an eye on.
Do you remember a wrestler named The Dream Machine (Troy Graham)? Thoughts?
I remember the name from the old wrestling magazines and I know who he is from hearing Jim Cornette and Dutch Mantell speak of him on their podcasts, but aside from that, I have no real knowledge of the guy. I’ve never seen him wrestle and he was never a part of Crockett and the Mid-Atlantic territory, where I grew up. Sorry.
Ric Flair recently said that DDP didn’t earn his success and push in WCW. Thoughts?
Ric implied that the only reason that Diamond Dallas Page had any success at all was because of his friendship with Eric Bischoff. And while I’ll be the first to admit that being friends with Bischoff got DDP’s foot in the door, the rest of it was hard work, busting his ass, having great matches, and earning the love and respect of his fans and peers. DDP put in the time, effort, sweat, and blood, and busted his ass for every piece of success that he received. Flair is just talking to be talking and stirring the pot, as always. On this, he’s wrong.
Greg Valentine & Ric Flair versus Nikita Koloff & Dusty Rhodes. Who wins?
Too bad this match never happened, but by the time Nikita was hitting his stride and turned face, Valentine had moved on to the WWF and was busting heads there. Flair and Valentine was a damn good team. If you get the chance, go on YouTube and watch them beat The Anderson Brothers, Ole, and Gene, in the cage to win the NWA Tag Team Titles. Very impressive. And then there’s Dusty & Nikita. What they lacked as a team, they made up for in hype and excitement. Turning Nikita’s face after the tragic car accident of Magnum TA was a brilliant move by The American Dream and they were the “It” team of NWA/WCW as a result. This would be a good match for sure. And since he’s the booker, Dusty and Nikita would take the victory lap at the end of the night.
From Ryback: “You couldn’t pay me enough to go back to Shawshank. I’m free, happy, and making more money than ever, and once cleared will have my sights set on much more relevant opponents.” Thoughts?
Ryback hasn’t wrestled a match since 2018 and is so full of crap. If he were to get a phone call from Triple H today saying to be at RAW on Monday night and you’re doing the job to Akira Tozawa, Ryback would be in a cab heading to the airport in less than ten minutes. You know it and I know it and he knows it. He’s just running his mouth and trying to stay relevant because he knows that making stupid comments is all he has left.
So, how about Matt Cardona as the AEW Devil? Thoughts?
I don’t think this is the case because Matt has a big match with the NWA headlining a PPV and challenging for the NWA World Championship coming up and working for both companies, as well as continuing to be the Indy God would probably be a bit hard to schedule and keep straight. But if it did happen, I’ll admit it. I’d pop.
Does WWE still have the show Table For Three on the WWE Network? What are three episodes of that show that you would like to see?
The show is still listed on The Network so I’m assuming that they’re still making new episodes every so often. Three episodes that I’d like to see? How about Chavo Guerrero, Ivory, and Awesome Kong talking about GLOW? Maybe Cody, Dom Mysterio, and Randy Orton talking about being multi-generational talents? And for the third, Corey Graves, Larry Zbyszko, and Wade Barrett about making the transition from wrestler to announcer?
Speaking of shows on The Network, it only ran one season, but I liked the Legend’s House show. If you could put together a new episode of that show, what 9 WWE legends would you be having to appear on the show?
I loved that show and it was great to see different sides of WWE legends away from the ring and show them, albeit in a scripted setting, more of their real selves. 9 people for a new edition of WWE Legend’s House? Okay, let’s go with Lisa Moretti, aka Ivory, Hornswoggle, R-Truth, MVP, Jacqueline, Sean Waltman, aka X-Pac, Heath Slater, William Regal, and Dustin Rhodes.
Nick Wayne’s Mom turned on Edge and helped Christian beat Edge. So is she part of Christian’s “family” now? Thoughts?
Since she started showing up, Nick Wayne’s Mom (does she even have a name?), has slowly been evolving into a character. Not a good one, but she’s there so I guess, for now, she’ll be Christian’s on-screen “squeeze”. Maybe we’ll luck out and Mama Wayne will end up surprising all of us and being the next Vickie Guerrero. More likely, she’ll end up being the equivalent of TNA’s Claire Lynch, but not nearly as talented or entertaining. But she’s there now and most likely, will be around for a while. Lord help us all.
Hacksaw Jim Duggan versus LA Knight. Who wins?
Duggan is a tough dude and it would be an interesting match, but LA Knight would and should win in the end. Yeah!
If TNA could put another talent in the Royal Rumble who should it be?
I would go with current TNA/Impact Wrestling World Champion Alex Shelley. Shelley has been around for a while and has had a great career, but I don’t think he’s ever worked for WWE, so a one-shot at the Rumble, as the TNA World Champion, would be cool.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions are welcome and appreciated. Be sure to like, share, and subscribe. And with that, let’s wrap up this AM edition of the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. Take care and be well, my friends. Watch out for foreign objects and I’ll see you at the matches.
