It’s time again for yet another edition of the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. I’m almost caught up, but then again, I haven’t checked my e-mails yet for the day. But that’s not important right now. It’s the best damn wrestling Q&A ever, period. Let’s roll.
Team Tony or Team Jinder? Who you got?
The Snowman or the former WWE Champion who just happens to be the Modern Maharaja? It’s TeamJinder all the way.
Matt Riddle says that Brock Lesnar went into business for himself in regards to winning the 2022 Royal Rumble and that he was told that he would be winning. Thoughts?
I do remember that according to PWinsider and Dave Scherer at the time, the plans were for Riddle to win the Rumble. But then things changed and Vince McMahon made the call and changed it to Brock Lesnar. So yes, it did happen, but Brock didn’t go into business for himself. The blame goes to Vince.
Do you think that The Undertaker should come back for Wrestlemania and one last match? If yes, then who should his opponent be?
WWE doesn’t need Undertaker to step back into the ring and risk his health, but if Undertaker wants to do it, so be it. The decision should be entirely up to Taker and if he is physically able to have another match, plus has any desire to do so. As for who, the natural choice would be Bron Breakker, who owes Taker a receipt from that episode of NXT a few months ago. And if not Bron, Kevin Owens would be a good choice as well.
Is Omos a lost cause or should he be repackaged and brought back to WWE? If you were in control of his fate, what would you do with the 7’2 monster?
Omos is a legit monster and while he’s not the best in-ring talent as of yet, he is progressively getting better and improving with each appearance. Omos is a special attraction and should be used as such. If that means repackaging and trying different gimmicks with him to make him a stronger presence, so be it. There aren’t many 7’2 men running around these days and WWE has one. They need to use him when necessary and make the necessary adjustments to make this guy a star. As for what I would do, I’d use him sparingly, less is more, and have him as the occasional monster among men.
The Young Bucks are back at AEW and the first thing they do is confront Sting & Darby Allin. Thoughts?
They’ve been away and they haven’t been missed, but they realized that Sting’s career is winding down and they have a need to be part of the story, regardless of whether it makes sense or not. So they’re back and they will be facing Sting & Darby in a match. How does this benefit and work positively for Sting & Darby? Newsflash! It doesn’t. Will the Bucks take the fall and put Sting & Darby over? I doubt it. This whole thing doesn’t make any sense at all. But it’s The Bucks, so why should we be surprised?
In your opinion who was the most underrated wrestler that never got the push they deserved?
While in WWE, Matt Cardona comes to mind. Zack Ryder was over like Rover but kept getting buried, time and time again. Shawn Spears is another name that comes to mind for AEW as he had all the talent but rarely got used. And for good measure, let’s add a woman to the mix. Lacey Evans, as the Sassy Southern Belle, was great and very entertaining, but WWE and Vince felt compelled to change her gimmick repeatedly and it didn’t work.
Does AEW rely too much on pointless 8-man tag team matches to get everyone on television? Thoughts?
AEW feels the need to get everyone on the card, whether or not it makes sense or there is a reason for the match to happen. It’s called lazy booking hyped to the max.AEW needs to do better.
Big John Studd versus Ernie “The Big Cat” Ladd. Who wins?
I had the chance to see John Studd wrestle many times when I was a kid and that was a big dude. But that being said, Ernie Ladd was just as big and he had the advantage of the infamous taped thumb. Ladd was the perfect chicken-shit heel, a monster of a man, and yet preferred to cheat, lie, steal, etc. If Eddie Guerrero was 6’8 and black, it would be Ernie Ladd. The Big Cat would take a beating, but with a low blow or thumb to the throat, would steal the win here.
Who was Hulk Hogan’s best feud and matches with?
The first name that popped into my head was Roddy Piper. It was the feud that led to the first Wrestlemania and later continued in WCW. The feud was good, although I can’t recall any great singles matches with Roddy & Hulk. And then I remembered Bobby Heenan. For the strongest part of his WWE career, Bobby Heenan was obsessed with destroying Hulk Hogan and Hulkamania. He even managed to convince Andre the Giant to turn on Hogan, leading to the classic encounter at Wrestlemania III. So the best feuds, at least in my opinion, would be with Roddy Piper and Bobby Heenan. The best of the best, brother!
Do you remember Sonny King?
I do remember Sonny King from the Apter Mags, but to be honest, I can’t recall ever seeing him wrestle or cut a promo. I know he was a star for Crockett and in Georgia in the ’70s and, according to Jim Cornette, somewhat sucked as a wrestler, but he had a good career in the territories. I think he also had a career as a boxer if I recall correctly. So I know the name, but not much else. My bad!
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions are welcome and appreciated. Be sure to like, share, and subscribe. And with that, let’s wrap things up. Take care and be well, my friends. Watch out for crazy tweets and I’ll see you at the matches.
