It’s another edition of the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. My mailbox is full and I’m playing catch-up today. Let’s roll.
Red pill: Sting went to WWE in 2002 and stayed onward. Blue pill: Brock Lesnar doesn’t leave in 2004. Which one are you choosing?
Both scenarios would be a big deal and change WWE quite a bit in its future development, both for the good and the bad. It’s a tough call, but I’ll go with the Red Pill and Sting coming to WWE in 2002. At least that way, we’d have gotten that Sting versus Undertaker match that everyone had always wanted to see.
“The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes & “The Russian Nightmare” Nikita Koloff versus Demolition (Ax & Smash). Who wins?
This match would be awesome. And when you figure in that Nikita and Smash used to be partners, it makes it even more awesome. I’ll go with Dusty & Nikita on this one, but just barely.
Why is AEW struggling so badly with attendance at events?
Booking big arenas that they can’t possibly fill, lack of storylines and characters that fans can invest in and care about, no big names or stars that the fans want to see, and bad booking. Take your pick.
Joey Janela recently stated that going to WWE has always been his dream. How well do you think Janela would do in WWE?
Janela is a good wrestler and would probably do well in WWE. He’s a good talker already but would have to rework his style and cut down on some of the crazy stuff, but he’s got the skills and look. I think, under the learning tree that is HBK, he’d end up doing quite well.
WWE has released former Smackdown announcer Kevin Patrick. Thoughts?
I hate to see anyone lose their job, but if Patrick wasn’t living up to the expectations that WWE required, so be it. I’ve heard rumors of Pat McAfee coming in to take the spot, but I doubt that will happen. He has way too much going on to commit to a full WWE schedule. In regards to Kevin Patrick though, he’s a talented guy and a good announcer. I’m sure he’ll land on his feet somewhere and be fine. Best of luck to him.
Turnbuckle Championship Wrestling, the promotion created by Dusty Rhodes and now being run by Dusty’s daughter and Q.T. Marshall, is back in business, running some shows from the Nightmare Factory, the training facility owned by Cody Rhodes and Marshall. Thoughts?
This gives the Rhodes Family a nice side hustle to keep the family legacy alive and help give wrestlers an opportunity so it’s a win-win. And, much like Booker T’s Reality of Wrestling promotion, I could see WWE using TCW as a place to send talents that are not quite NXT-ready for some reason but have the potential to get some training and seasoning.
The WWE Network will be folding at the end of the year and all of the content will be moved to Netflix, according to Meltzer. Thoughts?
I hope Uncle Dave is correct about all of the content being moved because I’d hate to miss out on my Mid-Atlantic wrestling from the 80s, and it would be nice to give up one of my subscriptions, either to Peacock or Netflix, and only have one to pay. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
A new lawsuit against Vince McMahon, Johnny Ace, and the WWE. Have you seen this? Thoughts?
I can’t help but have seen it and it’s pretty damn wild. I’ll spare the details here, but Vince McMahon is a deranged individual. Thus far as a result of this lawsuit being filed, we’ve seen Vince deny the allegations but still resign from the Board of TKO, Slim Jims suspend and then unsuspend their sponsorship of The Royal Rumble, and all plans for Brock Lesnar being put on hold. It’s just damn crazy and is going to get worse if that’s possible before it all goes away. And my thoughts? The woman making all these allegations and charges against Vince, true or not, didn’t have a problem with any of it, even signing an NDA, until Vince quit paying her with money and gifts. It’s a very messed up relationship to be sure, but what I’m seeing is that both were content with it until Vince decided to stop paying. I’m sure we’ll get more details, probably more than we want to know, as time progresses, but this whole lawsuit just doesn’t feel right to me.
According to reports, all plans for Brock Lesnar to return to the WWE have screeched to a halt due to his being mentioned (as a former UFC Champion, not by name). So no more “Beast” in WWE? Thoughts?
If the allegations are true, or even just believed to be true by the top officials at TKO, Brock will not be back in WWE. Right now, the roster is stacked and they don’t need him, but damn, what a way for a career to end. Sad!
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions are welcome and appreciated. Be sure to like, share, and subscribe. And with that, let’s wrap things up. And yes, even more to come later today. Be well and take care, my friends. Watch for lawyers and lawsuits. I’ll see you at the matches.
