It’s the start of a marathon run of the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. I took a day off and the questions just seemed to pile up. Thank you! And now, let’s find a few answers. I’m Doug and I’m on Team Cody. Let’s roll.
If you could strap a rocket to any wrestler and push them to the top of whatever promotion they work for, who would it be and why?
Right off the top of my head, Alan Angels over at TNA. I became a fan of Alan originally through the Sammy Guevera VLOG and since moving to TNA from AEW, he seems to have come into his own and is hitting his stride. He’s got a good look, is a good talker, and his confidence in the ring seems to have been taken up several notches. He’s getting better with every match and Angels is going to be a top guy one day. I have no doubts about that.
Who should face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania? The Rock or Cody Rhodes?
Cody. They’ve been building this for over a year and he needs to finish the story.
What do you think WWE can do to fix the current fan outrage for Roman Reigns vs The Rock?
Switch the match to make the Rock the guest referee. Or have Roman wrestle both nights, with The Rock on Night One and Cody on Night 2. Cody can wrestle Drew or Shinsuke on Night One to make it fair. Cody needs to finish his story.
How do you think Corey Graves did in the play-by-play role last night?
Corey is truly a student of the game and he did very well as the lead commentator on Smackdown for the first time. It’s obvious he’s paid attention to Michael Cole and has done his homework. Moving Graves to the lead role was an interesting move, but he and Wade Barrett worked so well together and have great chemistry.
Thoughts on Jesse “The Body” Ventura?
Jesse was an okay in-ring performer in my opinion, but as a commentator and talker, there are few in his league. Jesse made the transition from charismatic wrestler to the best heel commentator of his era. And then he used that charisma to move to the world of politics and shock the world as the Governor of Minnesota. Outspoken and always willing to ask tough questions, Jesse is one of a kind and a force to be reckoned with, be it in the ring, on the mic, in any election, or in politics. He’s the Body. ‘Nuff said!
Should WWE bring in Stone Cold Steve Austin as the special referee of The Rock versus Roman Reigns match at Wrestlemania 40, to make sure The Bloodline doesn’t interfere?
That would be an interesting twist and swerve and might make a few of the currently pissed-off fans (Team Cody) a bit happier. And then, maybe it could set up for a future match of Austin versus Rock, one more time, or even Austin versus Roman, if Austin is willing. I still think Austin versus Punk at some point is something WWE should aim for as the story writes itself. So far as Austin showing up at Wrestlemania 40, that’s thinking outside the box and would be fun to see. I like it.
Tim (Mr. Wrestling) Woods versus Xavier Woods. Who wins?
Though most fans today probably have no idea who Tim Woods, aka Mr. Wrestling, was, he was a top guy from the 70s from the Mid-Atlantic and Georgia territories, who can honestly be called a legend. He was in the plane crash that nearly ended Ric Flair back in 1975. To keep kayfabe alive, Woods, despite several injuries, checked himself out of the hospital and wrestled a couple of weeks later, so fans wouldn’t know that babyfaces and heels were on a plane together. He was a very tough dude and a legit superstar. And while I love Xavier Woods and he continues to impress me with every match, this one is an easy choice. Tim Woods wasn’t called Mr. Wrestling for nothing. Tim Woods wins.
How come Tony Kahn has been relatively silent about the Vince allegations? I thought he would be having a field day with this.
I guess that someone took his phone away or else Daddy Khan sat down his wayward child and gave him a stern talking too. I keep waiting for something to set him off and for the explosion of dumb remarks and commentary to come. Either that or maybe the Vince stuff hits too close to come, with the Chris Jericho situation that seems to have died down for now, and all of the NDAs in Tony’s life. Whatever the reason, I’m glad for it. But that being said when Tony eventually cuts loose, and you know he will, I’ll be the first one there enjoying the show.
Should Brock Lesnar get the Chris Benoit treatment from WWE?
I’m mixed on this. Brock didn’t do anything illegal. He’s allegedly a perv who likes some pretty warped stuff. but being an assclown is not anything that 90% of most guys haven’t done at some point in their lives if they’re honest. I don’t think he qualifies for the Benoit treatment. He’s lost his job and potentially millions of dollars in future earnings. Let the punishment fit the crime and having his entire career removed and buried, in my opinion, is too much. Hell, he wakes up each day married to Sable. Isn’t that enough?
So now that Brock Lesnar has been exposed in the Vince lawsuit, how do you think Rena Mero aka Sable, is responding? Do you think this has killed any option she may have had for wrestling and potentially going into the WWE Hall of Fame?
I can’t imagine that she’s very happy right now. I don’t think she’s had any interest in getting back involved in wrestling in any capacity, but if she did, aside from maybe a shoot interview here or there, I think those plans would be shattered. And now, she falls into the Nancy Benoit, aka Woman, category, as guilty by association. Woman will never be in the Hall of Fame, despite being well deserving, due to the Chris Benoit connection, and Sable will never get that induction due to the Brock relationship. I wonder if she’s been calling Marc Mero for a friendly shoulder yet? I’m just kidding, but karma is a spiteful bitch and I’m sure she’s not a happy person right now.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions are welcome and very appreciated. Be sure to like, share, and subscribe. And with that, let’s wrap this up. I still have quite a ways to go to make a dent in all of these questions. Thank you again to everyone for your continued support. Stay well and I’ll see you at the matches.
