It’s the weekend and it’s time for the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. You ask the questions, I provide the answers, and nothing is off-limits. Are you ready? Let’s roll.
TNA President Scott D’Amore was fired earlier today and is being replaced by Anthem Executive Anthony Cicone. What does this mean for D’Amore? For TNA’s relationship with WWE? For TNA?
It was a huge surprise for sure. As for what it means, who knows? D’Amore has done a fantastic job of keeping TNA alive and bringing it back from the edge of the cliff to a level of prominence and losing him will be a huge blow to the company as it continues the rebrand from Impact Wrestling to TNA once more. Everything changes from here on in and we’ll just have to watch and see how it goes.
The Dudley Boyz or The Steiner Brothers?
I have never been a fan of either team, to tell the truth, but both are top teams with impressive resumes and legacies. Of the two teams, I think I’ll go with Bubba Ray & Devon.
Do you think Mercedes Moné will be a difference maker for AEW?
Christian hasn’t been. Edge hasn’t been. Saraya hasn’t been. All of the top stars from Japan haven’t been. So will Mercedes be the one to move the needle and make a difference? I truly doubt it.
Would you be mad if Trick vs Carmelo was on the WrestleMania card?
I believe that NXT will be doing a PLE that weekend as well so Trick versus Carmello headlining that show makes more sense than moving the match to Wrestlemania. But, that being said, if this match did happen to be featured as part of Mania, I wouldn’t object in the slightest. It’s going to be a good match and would fit in well among the other Mania matches.
Ole & Gene Anderson versus The New Day (Kofi & Xavier Woods) w/ Big E. Who wins?
Classic old-school tag team wrestling versus modern-style tag team wrestling with four of the best of all time. It’d be an interesting match and my gut feeling is that Kofi and Xavier would win. Hell, I think Ole would insist on it so long as there was money to be made and it was a good match. The New Day wins.
AEW’s Swerve Strickland has said that he “didn’t even answer” WWE’s call to come back. “For me, I was in a place where I knew I needed to be. I needed to be in AEW… When I got the phone call to go back (to WWE), I didn’t even answer it. It was, ‘Nope,'”. Thoughts?
If WWE called him while he was under contract to AEW, that would be contract tampering and for some reason, I think Swerve might be fibbing a little bit here. Not answering and making comments, such as these, is just burning a bridge, and in a business as crazy as pro wrestling often gets, burning a bridge with the largest company in the world isn’t a smart move. Maybe he’s telling the truth, but my gut says he’s not.
Ron Garvin versus Dirty Dutch Mantell. Who wins?
As big a fan as I am of Dutch Mantell, this one is pretty easy to determine, and Dutch would not be the one getting the victory. Ron Garvin would win.
Dennis Condrey or Missy Hyatt. Who’d you rather go fishing with?
Nothing against Dennis, but I think, based on conversations I’ve had with Missy before on X, I’d get along better with her. I don’t know how interesting fishing would be to either of us would be, but we could have some fun conversations and I believe our personalities would mesh better.
Thoughts on Angel Garza?
A talented young man, the nephew of former WCW star Hector Garza, and a guy with a big future ahead of him. The guy can go in the ring and is a decent talker as well. I don’t see Garza as a top guy in a singles role, but as a tag team wrestler, he’s very accomplished and I can see him in a strong mid-card role as he gets older and more experienced. He’s good.
Eric Bischoff on AEW: “I just can’t take anything AEW seriously right now.” Is Eric right? Thoughts?
I never thought I’d be in total agreement with Eric about much of anything, but when he talks about AEW and says something like this, he’s 100% correct. He’s just calling it as he sees it and in this instance, he’s right.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions are welcome and appreciated. Be sure to like, share, and subscribe. Add me on X at @Doug28352. And with that, let’s wrap it up. Take care and be well, my friends. Don’t skip Triceps Day and I’ll see you at the matches.
