At least I’m not naked onstage at the Academy Awards. It’s the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. I’m your Guiding Light and party host, Doug. Let’s roll.
Jake Paul versus Mike Tyson. Thoughts?
The 27-year-old Jake Paul versus the 57-year-old Mike Tyson. It’s a spectacle and arguably the biggest challenge of Paul’s fighting career thus far. I’d like to say that I don’t care, but the car crash aspect of this has me intrigued. Paul has everything to lose here. He’s fighting a man thirty years older than he is. But that older man is Mike Tyson and it just takes one lucky punch. I’m going with Iron Mike on this one.
Where do you think Kamille is headed? TNA, WWE, or AEW.
I’m surprised she hasn’t made a decision yet, but in her shoes, I would pick WWE. AEW would be more money and TNA would be the best schedule, but if she truly wants to be a big name in professional wrestling and an international superstar, WWE is the best option for that.
According to Tokyo Sports, Kazuchika Okada signed a 3-year deal with AEW for about 2 Billion Yen. That equates to about 13.5 Million Dollars, resulting in about 4.5 Million Dollars per year. Thoughts?
If this is true, we’re talking about a lot of money being thrown away and I’m sure that Jericho, Edge, Christian, and the majority of the highly overpaid AEW roster can’t be happy. It makes me wonder what Mercedes Mone’ will be bringing home once she debuts. AEW isn’t making a profit yet and with moves like this, it never will. Good thing Tony Khan’s daddy is an indulgent billionaire who likes to give his son money.
Kevin Kelly has been fired from AEW/ROH. Thoughts?
It’s not a big loss for AEW/ROH since they have so many announcers already on the roster and Tony Schiavone had already taken over the duties as the lead announcer on Collision, but it’s still a shocker. Kelly is a good announcer and has a lot of experience in telling a story and making the matches more interesting to the fans. It seems that some personal issues with others backstage over some Twitter posts ruffled a few feathers backstage though. It sucks, but it is what it is.
The Young Bucks “fired” Kenny Omega from The Elite. Thoughts?
He’s not fired from AEW, but just from The Elite. This helps push the Bucks as cold & ruthless heels, plus it gives Kenny a storyline to come back to whenever he’s ready and able. It’s not a big deal, but just planting the seeds for the future.
There’s a not zero percent chance that Roman Reigns will walk out of Wrestlemania 40 with his championship. What would be your genuine reaction if he was still champion heading out of Wrestlemania and Cody failed once again?
I would be surprised to see Roman leave Wrestlemania as the WWE Universal Champion, but if it’s a good match, a good ending, and a good reason, I can’t say I’d be unhappy. I expect to see Cody as the next Champion, but if we get a swerve that makes sense and improves the story being told, so be it. Say perhaps, Seth turns on Cody and costs him the match against Roman, but the next night on RAW, Cody gets revenge by beating Seth for the World Championship, I could live with that. We’ll just have to see how it all plays out.
Stan Lane versus Austin Theory. Who wins?
Stan Lane was underrated as a singles wrestler and his character would match up well against Austin Theory. It would be a good match. Stan could have Bobby Eaton at ringside, while Theory has Grayson Waller seconding him. It’d be fun to see. I think Theory would most likely take the win here.
What changes would you make to IMPROVE ROH?
Separate it from AEW and make it a stand-alone product with its own television, pay-per-views, and content. Also, give it a creative direction and a booker and an identity of its own. The occasional crossover between the two promotions would be okay, but for the most part, let ROH be ROH and not AEW-lite. It would make the world of a difference.
The Hollywood Blondes or The New Age Outlaws?
Stunning Steve Austin and Brian Pillman versus The Road Dogg & Billy Gunn. This match would be incredible. It’s a tough call and hard to choose, but I was a big fan of Austin & Pillman and I think they’re highly underrated as a tag team. I’ll go with the Blondes on this one.
The U.S. Express, Barry Windham & Mike Rotundo, have been announced for the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2024. Thoughts?
They were part of the first Wrestlemania and no one can deny their accomplishments in their careers, so this choice is well deserving. I can think of another team with Express in their names that I would say is more deserving, but I can’t argue against Windham and Rotundo. They’re two of the all-time greats and have earned that spot in the Hall of Fame.
