One more for the boys in the cheap seats, it’s the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. I’m your Guiding Light and party host, Doug. And this is how we do it. Let’s roll.
After The Rock’s promos since his return and Cody’s promo on Raw, is the PG era officially over?
I wouldn’t say that it’s over, but I will say that it might be on the way out the door before long, especially with the upcoming move to Netflix at the end of the year. I don’t think we’ll be getting too crazy, but I do believe that we’ll be getting a more realistic version of the WWE in the weeks and months to come. That PG rating will be highly tested and pushed to the limit.
The first word that comes to mind when you see Rhea Ripley?
Mami.
Did you like it when WWE turned their gimmick matches into themed PPVs?
You’re speaking of events like Hell in a Cell or Money In The Bank. And no, I don’t like it. I get that they need a gimmick to push to sell the shows, but I don’t like that an annual event is built around a gimmick match. I prefer to see the big matches like Elimination Chamber or Hell in a Cell be more random, as to end a feud or as a solution to a problem, rather than just being another date on the calendar.
Jim Cornette pretty much got a shoutout from CM Punk on WWE Raw. Punk told Pat McAfee that he doesn’t watch his show, but he does listen to ‘The Experience’ and ‘The Drive Thru’, which are Cornette’s podcasts. Thoughts?
I thought it was cool. It was an Easter Egg of sorts for the fans, it got lots of media attention, it blew up the internet, and still didn’t distract from the promo and situation. I liked it.
Matt Cardona versus Adam Copeland. Who wins?
Based on their current standings in the world of professional wrestling, I think I would go with Cardona for this one. Edge is in the twilight of his career and isn’t the draw he once was. Cardona is peaking right now and is well deserving of his nicknames of ‘Indy God’ and ‘Deathmatch King’. Woo woo woo – you know it!
Do you feel the Street Profits have gone backward since affiliating themselves with Bobby Lashley? Seems they both had some solo opportunities before and now are barely doing anything, even as a team.
Since their alliance with Lashley started, it seems as if the Street Profits have more or less disappeared from television or any significant role on WWE television. The alliance with Lashley was a good idea in theory, but in practice, it doesn’t seem to be working out all that well. Adjustments or maybe a repackaging needs to be made to get the Profits back on track.
Jake Roberts announced that he has signed a new deal with AEW. Thoughts?
Jake keeps getting a check to essentially do next to nothing. It’s a nice gig for The Snake and I’m happy for him. I wish AEW would find a way to use Jake more frequently and take better advantage of having him as part of the roster, but so long as the checks keep clearing, more power to him.
Adam Copeland plans to do an “Open Challenge” to defend his TNT Championship each week. Who would you like to see step up and challenge Copeland?
How about the Indy star we spoke of a few questions ago, Matt Cardona? That would be cool. Heath Slater is currently a free agent and it’d be nice to him see pop up and give Copeland a run for his money. As for men currently part of the AEW roster, Powerhouse Hobbs, John Silver, Matt Hardy (for old times sake), and Sammy Guevera are the names that immediately come to mind.
While the Rock was beating up Cody outside the arena at the end of RAW, there was a scene in the background of a WWE truck with the pictures of Stone Cold Steve Austin & John Cena prominently featured. Is this a coincidence or foreshadowing?
Nothing in professional wrestling is just a coincidence. Those shots of Austin and Cena were placed there for a reason. Is it a sign of what to expect at Mania or is it just something to get people thinking? We won’t know for sure most likely until Night 2 of Mania, but it’s a great way to stir up conversation and interest for the fans.
Wardlow versus Bron Breakker. Who wins?
This would be an interesting match and could go either way in my opinion. Wardlow has so much potential, but AEW just seems to waste him more often than not and the on-off booking prevents him from getting any kind of real momentum at AEW. Breakker is a second-generation talent that just seems to get better and better with each appearance and I don’t think we’re even close to seeing what this man is capable of doing. I think I’d go with Breakker for this one.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions are welcome and appreciated. Be sure to like, share, and subscribe. And with that, let’s close it up for the day. It’s nearly time for the sun to come up and I need to get to bed soon. Have a great one and be good, my friends. Watch out for foreign objects and I’ll see you at the matches.
