It’s the day of Night One of WrestleMania 40. I’m jacked and in the mood. What better way to get the day started than with an edition of the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A? I’m your Party Host and Guiding Light, Doug. And that is all the people need to know. Let’s roll.
Ariel Helwani or Chris Van Vliet. Who’s the better interviewer?
It’s like comparing fried chicken to pork chops. Both are excellent at what they do and the interviews sound more like conversations between friends than hard-hitting interviews, but they still get answers and the information they’re looking for. I prefer Vliet, but both men are excellent interviewers.
After watching Bray’s documentary last night what are your thoughts on Bo carrying on the legacy and continuing with Uncle Howdy but for big matches he takes on the Fiend character in the new outfit?
I’d rather see Bo be Bo and while there would be aspects of the Wyatt Family in a possibly Bo-led faction, I wouldn’t want to see him hampered by being his brother’s character. It’s a losing proposition in the big picture of things and the first time things go wrong, the fans would turn on him. Wrestling fans are fickle like that. Bo as the leader of the rumored Wyatt 6 faction works for me. Bo as The Fiend? Not so much.
Do you agree that the Andre the Giant battle royal should be moved to WM? At least the kickoff show. Surely the fans and wrestlers would benefit from this.
I would agree with this move. I get it that they need something big for the go-home show leading into WrestleMania, but just the fact that it’s the go-home show should be enough. Give the folks in the Andre Battle Royal a WrestleMania moment. It’s a small thing, but it matters.
Chelsea Green commented on her Twitter that she was kicked out of the Fairmont Hotels and accused of being an escort based on her outfit. Thoughts?
I just hope that she spoke to the manager and set them straight. But in all seriousness, this is shocking that something like this could happen in 2024. Chelsea seems to be taking it with good humor and I’m sure that some of the people at Fairmont Hotels are in full apology mode right now trying to make it right. Only in professional wrestling, right? It’s crazy.
Ronda Rousey recently accused Drew Gulak of inappropriate behavior and said that he tried to pull on the drawstring of her sweats. Thoughts?
Drew came out on Twitter, explained the situation, and straightened out the situation. It’s hard to believe that Ronda is bringing this situation up over what was obviously an accident and nothing more. It’s a nothing situation that Ronda is blowing up now to get publicity for her book and make a headline. I would have expected better of her. If she was truly offended at the time, I do not doubt that she could have beaten the crap out of Gulak. It was brushed off and forgotten at the time and should have remained that way. It’s crazy and just seems to me like Ronda is just stirring the pot for no reason.
At what point do you think AEW will finally realize how important ratings/crowds are and do you think they will ever be able to compete with WWE in those regards, weekly?
So long as Tony Khan is happy and keeps throwing money into his fantasy hobby of being a wrestling promoter, I don’t think the rest of it matters. If Daddy Khan cuts off the cash flow and demands a change, or maybe if AEW loses its TV deal with WBD, some changes might be made, but unless something drastic happens, nothing is going to change.
The Barbarian versus Wardlow. Who wins?
Wardlow is good, but the Barbarian is a wrestling legend. If we’re talking about a standard wrestling match, Wardlow would probably win because he’s the bigger current name and is viewed more as a singles star. In a shoot fight though, it’s Barby all the way.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions are welcome and appreciated. Be sure to like, share, and subscribe. And with that, let’s wrap it up for now. It’s WrestleMania Saturday so I have two shows, NXT Stand and Deliver, and Night One of WrestleMania to prepare for. Take care and be well, my friends. Watch out for Paul Heyman and his profanity-laced promos and I’ll see you at the matches.
