It’s another edition of the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. I’m your Guiding Light and party host, Doug. We’re catching up after a great WrestleMania weekend. Let’s roll.
What are your thoughts on the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony?
It was a good event, to the point, and Paul Heyman stole the show with his induction speech. I still think it needs to be moved to its own night, maybe as part of SummerSlam as a stand-alone event. It wasn’t great, except for Heyman, but it was still a good night and I enjoyed watching it as it happened.
If Rock and Roman Reigns both take time off after WrestleMania, what direction does the Smackdown roster go?
It continues to move forward, full steam ahead. The WWE roster is stacked enough that even losing The Rock and Roman shouldn’t affect anything.
Will Vince McMahon get into the WWE Hall of Fame?
Probably after he’s passed away, but so long as he’s alive and dealing with scandals, it’ll never happen even though he truly belongs.
AEW will show the footage between CM Punk and Jack Perry from backstage at All In on Dynamite this upcoming Wednesday night. Thoughts?
I’m not sure what to expect, but there is no way this goes well for AEW. All it does is keep the talk of AEW’s many issues alive and in the public eye. Most likely, this is a way to bring Jack Perry back into AEW and maybe offer a weak rebuttal to the CM Punk interview from last week. I can’t see this turning out well in the big picture of things though. It won’t happen.
The Rock and Roman Reigns defeat Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins.
Was that the greatest tag team match ever?
Greatest tag team match ever? Not even close, but it was far better than I was expecting and was damn good.
Should the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony go back to having its night and being a stand-alone event?
I already answered this question a few minutes ago. The Hall of Fame, as currently presented, seems just another event squeezed into an already packed 4-days. It’s just one part of many crammed between Smackdown and RAW on WrestleMania weekend, with three PLEs also part of the package. It just seems to devalue the event in my opinion. I’d love to see WWE take a page from the WCW playbook and do as they did with Slammiversery. A show decided to nostalgia and legends followed by the Hall of Fame, all as part of its own weekend. It’d work. Believe me on that.
While CM Punk was being interviewed backstage before the Hall of Fame ceremony, AEW star Keith Lee wandered into the scene and was shown on camera in the background. Thoughts?
I’m sure that Tony Khan and AEW feel betrayed, but accidents happen. Lee was there with his wife, Michin, and well, it is what it is.
The Muhammad Ali induction at the Hall of Fame was all about The Rock putting himself over and giving himself a new championship belt. Thoughts?
That segment was more about The Rock putting himself over than giving Ali his proper flowers, but Ali’s wife seemed happy and Ali did get inducted so I guess it’s all good. It was a bit cringy though.
Bronson Reed won the Andre the Giant Battle Royal on Smackdown. Thoughts?
Good for Reed. It’s a good move by WWE to help establish this guy as a potential big star of the future. Hopefully, this will lead him to bigger stories and a good push in the months and years to come.
Bronson Reed versus The One Man Gang. Who wins?
Bronson is good, but he’s not prime One Man Gang good. It wouldn’t be pretty and that’s a lot of man meat being pushed around. I think OMG would win.
I’m watching the WWE HOF Ceremony and was amazed at how much Paul Heyman put over Brock Lesnar during his speech, to a great reaction. For some reason, I’m thinking now that Brock may not be through with the WWE after all. Thoughts?
At a press conference over the weekend, Triple H seemed to confirm that Brock will be back eventually by saying that right now, Brock is just off doing ‘Brock things’. If a good story or spot for Brock comes up, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Brock return for a show or two. As the story and interest in the Vince scandal continue to change and evolve, Brock’s role gets lost in the mix, and I expect he’ll be back. He’s too valuable an asset to give up on entirely. Just put him with Heyman and all will be forgiven.
So, what did you think of Thunderbolt Patterson’s speech?
It was exactly what I expected it to be. A T-Bolt classic. I was not disappointed.
