It’s the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. I’m your party host and Guiding Light, Doug. Let’s talk about the King of Sports. Let’s roll.
Who would you consider to be the modern equivalent of Dusty Rhodes and Sapphire?
When I saw this, I couldn’t think of any combination that had the same energy and excitement as Dusty Rhodes and Sapphire. When R-Truth and Carmella were doing the “Dance Party” skits, that was kind of the same vibe, but not quite. That’s the only example I can think of.
What’s your take on all four “pillars of AEW” completely out of action due to suspension or injury?
Jack Perry, aka Jungle Boy, returned to AEW last night and joined The Elite. Darby Allin seems to have a death wish and has no one to blame for his repeated injuries except for himself. Sammy has a knack for getting himself into trouble over the stupidest things. And MJF? Injuries and who knows what other reasons are there for his absence. It all boils down to bad management, lack of structure, and actions without thoughts of consequence.
Should Liv Morgan continue her “revenge tour” by joining Judgment Day and pairing up with Dominick Mysterio? Rhea Ripley is practically a babyface now so it could be the perfect hard split, and it gives Dominick even more heat (if that’s possible.)
I like that idea. Liv is seeking revenge by taking everything important to Rhea and since she didn’t get the championship, she goes after Dom instead. It makes sense and as you say, it would make Dom more of a heel than ever, plus it gives Rhea more sympathy as a babyface. I like this idea.
Ric Flair or Kurt Angle?
As great as Kurt Angle was, and also despite the last few years where Ric has seemingly tried to destroy every bit of credibility and legacy he has left, I still have to go with the Nature Boy. Diamonds are forever and so is Ric Flair.
Should Bron Breakker and Baron Corbin have had a run as a team on the main roster?
Breakker and Corbin made an excellent team while in NXT and it would have been fun to see them matched up against some of the more established teams on the WWE main roster. It’s a shame it didn’t happen, but now that they have a history together as a team, nothing is stopping them from occasionally teaming together in the future if it fits the story and situation. I don’t think we’ve seen the last of the Breakker/Corbin tag team.
Miss Elizabeth or Trish Stratus?
Let’s be honest here. Apart from being an attractive woman, what did Liz ever really do? She did slip a high-heeled shoe to Ric Flair a few times, but that’s about it. Trish took the time to learn to take bumps, talk on the mic, and went from being a pair of boobs to a decent wrestler. I’d take Trish anytime.
AEW was looking for “seat fillers” for AEW Dynamite, AEW Collision, and AEW Rampage this week in Jacksonville! Are you shocked to learn this?
I didn’t read the article, but I did hear about this, and in AEW’s defense, the story was clickbait. Seemingly, the whole idea was to provide tickets to veterans as a way of saying thank you for their service. I’m sure that AEW didn’t object to having more butts in the seats, but the reasoning behind this was not because of desperation or for any nefarious reasons. Not this time anyhow.
Mercedes Mone has to be turning heel, right?
I thought that she already was a heel. Mone has never been good at being a babyface so turning heel makes sense. So yeah, let’s go with that.
The Elite just attacked Tony Khan on AEW Dynamite. Thoughts?
I think AEW just had their “jump the shark” moment. Tony said many times that he wouldn’t be an on-air character, but here we go with some of the worst-selling a move since Linda McMahon took a Stone-Cold Stunner. The entire spot made me cringe and not in a good way. Maybe it will spike the ratings, but who knows? It all came across as lame to me.
Thoughts on Kip Sabian?
A talented guy who is a good worker and talker who just seems to be lost in the shuffle that is AEW. I think All In from Wembley was the last time I remember seeing him on television and even then, he was doing commentary. I guess he’s just sitting at home and collecting a paycheck, waiting to be remembered. It’s a shame because he’s unique and different enough that he could bring a lot to the table at AEW if they used him correctly or hell, just used him at all.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions are welcome and appreciated. Be sure to like, share, and subscribe. And with that, let’s wrap things up. Take care and be well, my friends. Watch out for sneak attacks by boys from the jungle and sneaky EVPs. I’ll see you at the matches.
