It’s 1:17 in the morning, I’m way too sober, and this is the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. I’m Doug and I’m your party host and Guiding Light. Let’s do this. Let’s roll.
Did AEW drop the ball with Danhausen?
I don’t think so. While I personally find Danhausen amusing, he’s a comedy character who has one major move, the art of throwing curses at people. While I could see using Danhausen as a company mascot or even a weird interviewer, I think his character is too far out there to be a wrestler, even in AEW. That AEW managed to do as much with him as they did was more than I expected.
Is the Toni Storm and Mariah May the best long-term storyline in AEW right now?
I don’t know. I haven’t been keeping track. But if you say it is, I’ll take your word for it.
Are you a fan of the WWE King of the Ring format and event?
I’ve always liked the King of the Ring event and format as a way to help get some of the more mid-card talents over and to help build and promote new characters. The wrestler might not be a top guy or a champion, but a win and time as the King of the Ring looks great on the resume.
Who’s your favorite Von Erich & why?
I think it was Kevin. We never heard the bad stuff about Kevin and as cold as it sounds, he’s still alive. He’s managed to survive everything and with his two sons, is keeping the family legacy alive. Most others would be crushed by what Kevin has endured in his life, but he’s still walking the walk and keeping on. I find that admirable.
Macho Man Randy Savage isn’t available, who is Jake “the Snake” Robert’s greatest rival?
This is a tough one because the feud with Savage is the only long-term feud I remember with Jake. I do remember Roberts and Sgt. Slaughter went a few rounds in 1981 in the Mid-Atlantic region, but Jake was a rookie and Slaughter was also fighting Blackjack Mulligan and Barry Windham at the time and Jake just kind of got dragged into the feud by his association with The Mulligan family. I guess it would be Ravishing Rick Rude. After all, Roberts’s then-wife Cheryl got dragged into the feud and it went on for several months on WWF television.
I swear Chelsea Green has become the modern-day woman’s Brooklyn Brawler (but from Vancouver). Such a pity. She needs to join her husband in AEW. Such a loss of great potential talent right there.
Chelsea Green is an amazing talent, full of charisma, and is one of the brightest and most enjoyable characters in WWE right now. She’s doing quite fine in WWE at the moment and doesn’t need to join anyone anywhere.
Barry Windham versus Roman Reigns. Who wins?
The Horsemen interfere on behalf of Windham. The Bloodline interferes on behalf of their Tribal Chief, Roman Reigns. And the winner? I’d go with Roman on this one.
Bubba Ray went all in on Orange Cassidy for basically no selling a piledriver on steel steps and he’s completely right. I never understood why they’re making OC seem like such a big star anyway. Thoughts?
Orange Cassidy is much better than most give him credit for and I don’t mind the big push by AEW management, aka Tony Khan. I do agree with Bubba though about the no-selling of the piledriver on the steps. That’s a move that should have required a stretcher, medical assistance, and Orange being out of action for a few weeks at least. Instead, Orange is back up in a matter of seconds and shows no effects as he goes on to win the match. That was a slap in the face to every single person who has ever stepped into a ring and sold the effects of a bump or injury. It just doesn’t make any sense at all.
The Tonga Twins have left Women of Wrestling (WOW) and are now free agents. Thoughts?
I don’t know who the Tonga Twins are, but I did see pictures of them and they look impressive. Now that Johnny Ace and Vince are gone, I don’t see WWE having much interest in them, although the twin aspect of their characters is always popular with the fans. Are they any kin to The Rock, Roman, or Haku? Maybe they’ll end up as female enforcers for the Bloodline, much as I suggested for Tamina in an earlier edition of the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A yesterday. Most likely, my gut is saying TNA, but we’ll have to wait and see.
What are you expecting from Uncle Howdy’s return?
That’s just it. I’m not sure what to expect as of yet. Some chaos and confusion as Uncle Howdy and the rest of the crew attempt to establish their characters and do something to generate the interest of the fans. I would suggest maybe a feud with another faction such as Lashley’s group with the Street Profits or even The Judgment Day to lay the groundwork and establish an M.O. for the group. Right now, with Uncle Howdy and whoever he’s aligned with, it’s still more questions than anything else. We’ll just have to wait and see how WWE plays this and figure out things from there.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions are welcome and appreciated. Be sure to like, share, and subscribe. And with that, let’s wrap things up. Take care and be well, my friends. Watch out for Dom and Liv sneaking around in the backstage area. Mami is going to be so mad. Be good and I’ll see you at the matches.
Ubuntu!
