It’s the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. I’m Doug and I’m feeling like a plastered panda. Are you ready to do this? Let’s roll.
Sources say that Tony Khan is very unhappy with the TV rights deal being offered by Warner Brothers Discovery to remain on TBS and TNT. Thoughts?
But at the Media Scrum for AEW Double or Nothing, Tony was happy and very positive about the TV Rights discussions with WBD so which one is it? The ratings are falling and continue to fall so I expect that’ll make a difference in the money situation, but I keep hearing that WBD wants to start streaming AEW on Max so that’s a good thing, right? I’m not believing anything until the deal is signed. Otherwise, it’s all just speculation.
Tony Khan said they are thinking about adding #AEW Women’s Tag Championship belts. Do you think they should?
I would say no. Between AEW, ROH, and all of the other titles often seen as part of AEW, like NJPW, CMLL, AAA, etc., there are way too many titles to keep track of as it is. AEW doesn’t need more belts to add to the confusion.
Edge, Jericho, and Danielson all have the freedom to do whatever they want. How’s that working out?
Danielson is the very picture of “walking wounded” and admittingly needs surgery. Edge has a broken leg. And Jericho has gone from being a popular star to having legit “Go-Away” heat with the fans. So how’s that working out? As John Boy & Billy used to say quite often, “Not too good!”.
What are your current interest levels in seeing Xavier Woods & Kofi Kingston embark on respective singles runs?
The New Day gimmick was awesome, but it’s run its course and has grown more stale than the “What?” chants from the live crowds. I would love to see Xavier Woods as a singles star with a good heel run. Kofi has the been there/done that thing about him, but he’s a strong mid-card talent and could still have some good matches. At this point, having them both work as singles is probably the best way to go.
“I think that both WWE and AEW will by this time next week… have offered Becky Lynch the biggest contract in women’s wrestling history” – Sean Ross Sapp. Thoughts?
I’m sure that both Triple H and Tony Khan have broken out the checkbooks and negotiations are taking place. I doubt that it matters though in the big picture of things. Becky has eyes and can see what the Women’s Division in AEW looks like. And would she want to go there and steal all of Mercedes Mone’s glory? Becky will remain with the WWE.
Arn Anderson’s contract with AEW expires on May 31 and he says he’ll be leaving AEW. So what’s next for The Enforcer?
He clarified all of that when he made his announcement. He wants to help build Brock Anderson into a legit star and become the best wrestler he can be. So I’m expecting Arn to keep doing the podcast with Conrad Thompson’s group and try and sell himself and Brock as a package deal with WWE. So Arn and Brock in NXT? Who knows? I’d like to see it though and it would work wonders for Brock’s career and future.
Ethan Page is now part of WWE/NXT. Thoughts?
I’m happy for Page. He’s a charismatic guy and good in the ring. AEW wasn’t using him often and only jobbed him out when they did remember he was part of the roster. He’ll do well in WWE/NXT.
TNA Champion Jordynne Grace will be facing NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez at the 6/9 WWE NXT Battleground PPV in Las Vegas. More crossovers between TNA and WWE/NXT are expected. Thoughts?
I popped for this. TNA has some very good talent and any crossovers with the WWE/NXT will only add eyes to the product and give those talents more exposure. It also gives WWE a chance to scout new talents and find future stars who would do well in the WWE environment. Essentially, TNA is becoming the new OVW feeder system for WWE. Both companies will benefit and grow stronger as a result of this newfound alliance.
Who’s the biggest wrestling icon? Stone Cold or Hulk Hogan?
I hate to admit it, but Hulkamania is the strongest force in the Universe, brother. Stone Cold is a mega-star and a huge name, but everyone in the world knows who Hulk Hogan is. The opinions may differ, but that’s just the way it is, brother!
Jake Hager’s AEW contract has expired and he’s now a free agent. So what’s next for the former WWE World Champion?
Jake has also retired from MMA so I guess that either he goes to TNA or tries to get back with WWE, maybe as part of NXT. Jake might not be able to have Dutch Mantell by his side anymore to help with the promos, but I think under the guidance of Triple H, Swagger could easily become a strong upper mid-card talent for WWE again. Just imagine Swagger versus Bron Breakker or even Swagger versus Damian Priest. Those would make for some good matches. We, the people!
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions are welcome and appreciated. Be sure to like, share, and subscribe. And with that, I’m out of here. It’s time for a nap and some snuggling with my dude. Stay well and watch out for foreign objects. I’ll see you at the matches.
