It’s the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. I’m Doug and this is how we do it. Let’s roll.
Do you watch pro wrestling more for the soap opera drama or actual wrestling?
A mixture of the two, with a preference towards the stories and characters with the matches and wrestling being the pay-off for a story that was well done.
Under the Triple H era, Ronda Rousey could do great things in WWE. Yes or no?
I think Triple H could do a much better job of booking with Rousey than she enjoyed under the Vince McMahon era. If Triple H had been the man in charge during Rousey’s run with WWE, I think that it would have been deemed more successful and Rousey wouldn’t have left the company with such a sour taste in her mouth.
Matt Cardona: “People talk about “long-term storytelling… I want
John Cena.” Thoughts?
The seeds were planted years ago in the angle with Eve Torres, Kane, and John Cena. Matt Cardona versus John Cena at Wrestlemania 41? Book it, Triple H.
What did you think of Ethan Page winning the NXT at NXT Heatwave?
In the words of Carlito, “That’s cool!”. Seriously though, I think it’s great. Page is highly underrated and never got his just due in AEW. NXT is pushing him hard and determined to make him a star. Good for Page.
Should WWE add Women’s U.S. and Intercontinental Championship titles?
In my opinion, I would say no. WWE has plenty of titles in play already and while the Women deserve a ton of credit, between RAW, Smackdown, NXT, and the two sets of tag team titles, there are plenty of belts currently available. WWE doesn’t need more. It’s not AEW after all.
There are rumors that the sixth person and leader of the Wyatt Sicks will be, in the wise man role, Barry Windham. Thoughts?
While it would be cool to see Barry pop up in WWE and make a cameo or two, Barry is not the best talker, nor has he been in the greatest of health over the past few years. If they’re going with the family, Mike Rotundo or even Kendall Windham would work better in my opinion. From what I’ve seen thus far, The Wyatt Sicks doesn’t need a “Wise Man”. Bo, in the role of Uncle Howdy, will be fine.
ESPN announcer Joe Tessitore will begin calling WWE later in the Summer this year. Thoughts?
I’m not sure who Joe Tessitore is, but the reactions that I’ve seen thus far seem to indicate that he’s a smart guy and a good announcer who has worked for ESPN for quite a while. I don’t think Cory Graves and Wade Barrett need a third man at the announce position, but I’m not part of WWE so what I think doesn’t matter. Maybe he’ll add a lot to the show and if not, he’ll be replaced or removed. Best wishes to him and let’s give him a chance to see how it goes.
Rhea Ripley is now listed as a babyface internally, while the other members of The Judgment Day remain listed as heels currently in WWE. Thoughts?
Rhea has been getting pops from the crowd for quite a while and the fans are genuinely happy to see her back after her injuries. She and Priest get cheered. Dom & JD get booed. And the fans are kind of mixed with Finn. Judgment Day has something for everyone and what the internal reports say doesn’t matter. It’s just good television, good wrestling, and the fans love them some Rhea Ripley, who has busted her ass and earned their respect.
Sonya Deville, Zoey Stark, and Shayna Baszler have officially started a faction. What should they call this faction? Thoughts?
Have they given this group a name yet? I suppose I could go look, but I’m too lazy/tired right now. Just call them Ultimatum, based on the legit UFC backgrounds of all three women. I think it’s cool that WWE is putting these women together and I’m interested in seeing where this goes. I’ve always liked Baszler & Deville, but Zoey is growing on me. Let’s see how it goes.
Why has Chris Jericho had so many gimmick changes in AEW?
It’s called throwing everything up against the wall to see what sticks. Jericho is constantly reinventing himself and trying to stay relevant. Sometimes it works and other times, we get the Learning Tree. Oy vey. But at least Chris is trying. Most of it is not good and sucks badly, but at least Chris is trying.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions are welcome and appreciated. Be sure to like, share, and subscribe. And with that, let’s wrap it up. Take care and be well, my friends. Watch out for foreign objects and I’ll see you at the matches.
