It’s the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. I’m Doug. Let’s roll.
What was worse? The reincarnation of ROH or ECW?
The reincarnation of ECW had CM Punk, Zack Ryder, Matt Striker, and the ECW Zombie, among other things. ROH’s newest version has no TV, meaningless matches, and exists in name only as the C-team for AEW. It’s not even close. The latest ROH is far worse.
Who is one random wrestler or team you’d like to see a big push or spot for in the near future?
Heath Slater, aka Heath. I’m ready for a big return for the guy with kids. Also, Grayson Waller. The dude has skills.
Does Danielson win the belt at All In? If so, then who does he drop it to?
I don’t think he’ll be winning the belt. He doesn’t need it, nor do I think his body is up for the challenges of holding a major title anymore. But if he does manage to win the belt, he should then drop it to Ospreay.
WWE has allegedly given up on Omos. Thoughts?
He’s got the size and was getting better, but my guess is that WWE doesn’t quite know how to book a legit giant anymore. Omos has potential, but he’s not on the level of someone like Big Show in the promo/character department, nor is he as unique and special as Great Khali was. Omos is a different animal and WWE just doesn’t get him. Too bad because with the right handler/manager, he has the potential to be a major player for WWE.
In your opinion, who was more popular? The Ultimate Warrior in 88/89 or Bill Goldberg in 1998?
In 1998, it was Bill Goldberg. Warrior’s time had passed and he was just a shadow of what he had been in earlier years.
Is it time for Athena to move on from ROH and be featured on AEW?
I think that would be a good call. Athena has been the ROH Women’s Champion for nearly 2 years and no one seems to know or care. It’s a meaningless title and ROH is a meaningless brand. At least as part of AEW, the main roster, she would attract some eyes and get the credit she deserves.
WON: Jon Moxley has been given time off by AEW and has not been backstage at AEW TV since the Forbidden Door PPV. Thoughts?
Moxley is probably burnt out and tired of the meaningless back-and-forth matches that have no meaning or purpose and just need a break. Nothing wrong with that.
According to Meltzer, Buddy Matthews had tried to give notice about leaving AEW at one point but AEW wasn’t going to release anyone to go to WWE. Tony Khan since then offered him a new very lucrative deal and he agreed to it. Thoughts?
So he played Tony Khan and got a bigger, more lucrative deal to stay when he threatened to leave AEW and said he wanted out. It sounds as if Matthews took advantage of Tony and reaped the benefits of Tony’s poor business skills and determination to not give WWE anyone. Good for Buddy! Now, he can go buy Mami some presents.
It is expected that Pat McAfee will be pulled out of his announcing job with WWE once he returns to his ESPN College Gameday role during football season. Thoughts?
It’s the same thing that McAfee did last year, taking time off from WWE to fulfill his duties with ESPN. WWE will have others fill in, working with Michael Cole, until McAfee is ready to return. This is a non-story at best.
Team AEW won the Blood & Guts match by threatening to set Jack Perry on fire. Really? Thoughts?
The match was pretty damn good and solid and everything that a War Games match should be, but two things, that chair shot on Perry at the end, and the whole fire thing, did kind of leave it all feeling flat at the end. I get it though. There was a precedent established with Perry being set on fire in the past, so at least AEW is consistent with the story. I remember a similar scene in War Games where Curt Hennig turned on the Horsemen and then, after handcuffing the Horsemen to the cage, Curt and the nWo threatened to slam the cage door on Ric Flair’s head unless the Horsemen surrendered. And they did. Same story this time, but it was gasoline and the threat of a human torch instead of slamming a cage door. I still didn’t much care for it though. And that chair shot? Oy vey!
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions are welcome and appreciated. Be sure to like, share, and subscribe. And with that, let’s wrap it up. Take care and be well, my friends. Watch out for foreign objects and chair shots to the head. I’ll see you at the matches.
