It’s the afternoon edition of the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. It’s raining hard outside so why not take advantage and tackle a few more of the questions filling up my inbox? I’m Doug, your resident party host and Guiding Light. Let’s roll.
Mark Henry’s son, Jacob Henry, just announced he has signed with the WWE. Thoughts?
I remember seeing Jacob a few times as part of Sammy Guevera’s VLOG and he seems like a good kid. If he’s half the athlete that his father is, and from all indications, he is, then this is a great move. Best of luck to him and hopefully we’ll see Jacob as a top guy in NXT sooner rather than later.
What’s your all-time Mt. Rushmore of Heel Turns?
Off the top of my head, I’d go with Ole Anderson turning on Dusty Rhodes at the Omni. This turn led to the eventual formation of the Four Horsemen which was several years in the making. Hulk Hogan joining the nWo is up there because it was so unexpected and huge. Vince McMahon, the announcer, is revealed as the owner of the WWE and the Montreal Screw Job, which transformed him from Vince into Mr. MaMahon. And Ric Flair turning on Sting. Which time? All of them.
According to Fightful Select, AEW and WBD’s exclusive negotiating window has ended. Thoughts?
Tony Khan is in France, meeting with WBD officials, this weekend. Hopefully, they’ll be able to get a deal made. If not, Tony can approach other companies now and try to find AEW a new home. I doubt it will come to that, but given how long it’s taking AEW to secure a new deal, anything is possible.
Vince Russo says that he thinks the McMahon family is plotting to buy AEW. Thoughts?
Vince is in his mid-80s with some health issues and fighting a criminal lawsuit. He’s not plotting to buy anything, plus the Khan family has more money than Vince. Tony isn’t going to sell his favorite toys if he doesn’t have to. Russo is just talking to be talking.
Say something positive about Goldberg.
He’s a good father and the interview with Chris Van Vliet was very good. My respect for Goldberg has increased and while I’ll never claim to be a big fan of him as a wrestler, I think he’s a good dude and has a great attitude towards life.
Has the WWE/NXT partnership with TNA been one-sided? Yes or no?
No, I don’t think so. TNA stars have been able to appear to a larger audience and it’s affecting TNA’s drawing power at live events and for TV tapings in a positive manner. The numbers are up. NXT talents like Charlie Dempsey have made appearances on TNA television, and it’s given both shows a must-see feel since you never know who will show up. Thus far, both sides seem to be benefitting.
“This is the purest form of evil unfolding right before your eyes. A man was allowed to beat up a woman on a global stage, crushing her life’s dream while fighting for her deceased father. This delusion must end.” Logan Paul on Angela Carini vs. Imane Khelif. Thoughts?
Logan Paul deleted this tweet, but he was talking about a mismatched boxing match at the Olympics where Carini, a female boxer, was forced to box Khelif, an alleged female boxer who has both X and Y chromosomes and is genetically a man. I’m not going to go into the specifics of this case, but I’ll suffice it to say that Logan is right and this fight was a travesty. Women should NOT be forced to compete against men, regardless of what they identify as, in sports and athletic competitions. Men have strong genetic advantages and it’s not equal or fair. Logan may have incited the woken left with his comments, but putting on make-up and playing pretend dress-up does not change the fact that men and women are different. And they should not be physically competing against or fighting each other. It is just that simple. Common sense.
Kurt Angle says he’s open to making a return to WWE in a managerial role. Thoughts?
If Kurt is open to the possibility of returning to WWE, he and Triple H should have some discussions. It’d be cool to see our Olympic hero back in some fashion as part of WWE.
Matt Cardona made a surprise return to TNA and crashed Steph De Lander’s wedding to PCO. Thoughts?
I enjoyed the wrestling wedding between De Lander and PCO, and seeing Matt show up to give PCO his gift was great. Cardona adds to any product that he’s a part of and given the ties between Cardona and De Lander, this was to be expected. It was so over the top with the wedding, but Cardona brought it back to reality and I popped. Also, given TNA’s recent ties to WWE/NXT, having The Indy King as part of TNA just seems to make the eventual return to WWE just that much easier. It was a great moment for Cardona, as well as for all wrestling fans. Or as Miz, who has been going back and forth with Cardona several times today on X, would say, it was AWESOME!
Should Jack Tunney be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame?
I’m surprised that Tunney isn’t already part of the WWE Hall of Fame. He was a promoter who worked with the company for years and was the figurehead President of WWF for many years as well. Yes, he should be inducted and given his kudos. Unfortunately, Tunney passed away in 2004, but WWE could at least do a Legacy Induction. Tunney deserves at least that much.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions are welcome and appreciated. Be sure to like, share, and subscribe. And with that, let’s wrap it up. Take care and be well, my friends. Watch out for foreign objects and I’ll see you at the matches.
