Thoughts & Predictions

It’s time for the biggest event of the summer, WWE SummerSlam, coming on Saturday from Cleveland, Ohio. And of course, that means it’s prediction time. What’s going down? Let’s find out.
Undisputed WWE Championship — Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Solo Sikoa.
This match isn’t so much about the WWE Championship, but rather will we be seeing the return of The true Tribal Chief, Roman Reigns? Cody and Solo will have a good match and I expect it to be a total banger. The Bloodline will get involved and we’ll see plenty of shenanigans. We may see KO and Orton show up as well. Look for chaos and plunder. And despite the odds, that belt will stay with the American Nightmare, Cody Rhodes. And what happens afterward? That’s when the fun truly begins.
Winner and STILL WWE Undisputed Champion: Cody Rhodes
World Heavyweight Championship — Damian Priest (c) vs. Gunther.
This one has me conflicted. Gunther is an amazing athlete and a one-of-a-kind star. He should be the World Champion and deserves a run for the title. But Priest is good and gets better every week. He is growing into the title and I feel his reign as the champion is just starting to gain steam. I don’t want to see Priest lose, but I also feel Gunther needs to win. Look for Judgment Day to get involved and maybe it’ll work and maybe it’ll backfire. I’m pulling for Priest to find a way to keep the title and the series between Gunther and Priest to continue to another day.
Winner and STILL WWE World Champion: Damian Priest.
CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre (Special Guest Referee Seth Rollins).
This one can also go either way and when Seth Rollins has been added to the picture, it gets even more convoluted. This is not the last match and we’ll see more of Punk/Drew before it’s all over and they move on. A loss will not hurt either person and the story will continue. Drew needs revenge and Punk needs his AJ/Larry bracelet back. Seth has a grudge against both men. Regardless of who wins, the loser will get his heat back on the following Monday night. Let’s flip a coin. Heads for Drew and tails for Punk. It’s heads, so Drew wins.
Winner: Drew McIntyre.
Women’s World Championship — Liv Morgan (c) vs. Rhea Ripley.
Liv versus a pissed-off Mami. The story and build have been great. I guess the question is will Dominik stay loyal to Rhea? Or will he end up as part of a power couple with Morgan? And will Liv’s former associate, Lana, show up? This story can go in so many directions. I guess that Dom “screws up” and accidentally costs Rhea the match. Then Mami gives Dom a spanking on Monday night and cements her role as the babyface, while Dom & Liv become a team. Works for me.
Winner and STILL WWE Women’s World Champion: Liv Morgan
WWE Women’s Championship — Bayley (c) vs. Nia Jax.
While I’m a huge fan of Bayley, this title reign has been less than awesome and a title switch would be a good thing. No speculation here. Look for Nia to win the belt and become the new WWE Women’s Champion.
Winner and NEW WWE Women’s Champion: Nia Jax
Bonus: Tiffany Stratton cashes in the Money in the Bank contract. WWE Women’s Championship — Nia Jax versus Tiffany Stratton.
One of the best things currently about Nia as of late is her friendship with the current Money in the Bank contract holder, Tiffany Stratton. After Nia wins, I expect to see her ‘friend’ cash in that contract. It’s Tiffy-time as Stratton cashes in and steals the win to become the new champion.
Winner and NEW WWE Women’s Champion: Tiffany Stratton.
WWE Intercontinental Championship — Sami Zayn (c) vs. Bron Breakker.
Sami has had a solid run with the IC title, but it’s time for Breakker to make that big impact and win some major WWE gold. This is his time. And given that his father, Rick Steiner, has been announced as a special guest of the WWE for the SummerSlam event, that tends to cement the deal. We’re getting a new champion.
Winner and NEW WWE Intercontinental Champion: Bron Breakker.
WWE United States Championship — Logan Paul (c) vs. LA Knight.
Logan Paul has stirred up Twitter as only he can do this weekend with his comments about the Women’s boxing match at the Olympics in Paris. I’ll be commenting on that in the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A most likely in Friday’s edition. Be sure to check it out. As for this match, LA Knight is quickly becoming an afterthought to most wrestling fans. He talks the talk but rarely delivers. He needs to win and win convincingly. Paul is such a good heel, it won’t hurt him in the slightest and given the heat he’s generating at the moment, would probably work even better for his character to take a loss and eat some crow. We’re getting a new United States Champion, not to be confused with MJF’s American Championship over at AEW. This title matters. Yeah!
Winner and NEW WWE United States Champion: LA Knight.
