It’s the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A, the evening edition. I’m Doug and I’m your resident party host and Guiding Light. Are you ready to rumble? Let’s do this.
Cody Rhodes states that he got approached by individuals from both the Democratic Party and the Republican Party about potentially running for office in Georgia. Thoughts?
I can see Cody as a potential political candidate somewhere down the road. He’s a good-looking guy, popular, well-spoken, and checks all the boxes. Right now, he’s at the peak of his wrestling career so the timing wouldn’t be great, but I can see politics as an eventual career. Cody seems as if he’d be a natural and do very well.
Dr. Britt Baker versus Trish Stratus. Who wins?
Baker is one of the better women in AEW when they remember to use her and not suspend her for locker-room quarrels. Trish worked hard to develop into a good wrestler over the years and even now, she’s easily one of the best characters in WWE. Trish would win.
Since it’s been two years exactly since Karrion Kross returned to WWE, what have you made of his booking since he returned in 2022?
He’s used far more regularly on television now and I like the alliance with Paul Ellering and the AOP, but he’s not connecting with the fans and seems to be just drifting more than anything else. Triple H refuses to give up on him, but he can’t seem to gain any kind of momentum. I would consider the Karrion Kross experiment in WWE to be a failure that just can’t seem to get off the ground.
What are the first words that come to mind when you hear the name Hacksaw Jim Duggan?
A big dude carrying a 2×4 and screaming, “Hoooooo!”. I recently saw some of his stuff from the Mid-South days and I can see why the fans liked him so much, but WWE turned him into a clown during his run there. And then WCW kind of cemented that legacy and he was more of a joke than a wrestler to be taken seriously. Duggan seems like a cool dude, but that’s about it.
Jacob Fatu versus The Barbarian. Who wins?
I think Fatu could give the old man a good fight, but in a shoot, Barby would win and win big. In a wrestling match, Barby would put Fatu over and give him the big rub, but Fatu would be hurting for days afterward.
Roman Reigns is now listed as a babyface on WWE’s internal roster. Thoughts?
Does this surprise anyone? Absence makes the heart grow fonder and while the fans didn’t like Roman, they respected him. And to see the betrayal of Solo and the formation of a new Bloodline, the fans want to see Roman get his spot back and get revenge. Eventually, Roman will turn heel and go after Cody and other fan favorites, but for the return and the immediate future, Roman is probably the number-one babyface in WWE, as he should be.
Who should be Gunther’s first challenger?
It seems as if Damian Priest will be busy with other things for the foreseeable future, so Randy Orton has stepped up to make the challenge. It appears that Gunther will be a fighting champion who defends regularly, so I can also see Jey Uso, Sami Zayn, and Drew McIntyre also stepping up and taking a shot.
Sean Waltman should have a job as a commentator in WWE. Yes or no?
Waltman is a good speaker and I could see him filling in on commentary every so often, but WWE is fine with the people already in place, plus Sean has other duties and responsibilities. Maybe somewhere down the road, Waltman might move to the announce table on a more regular basis, but I don’t see him doing that as a full-time job.
I saw Rick Steiner at SummerSlam. Why is WWE associating with that transphobic piece of trash after what he said about Gisele Shaw? He should be kicked out of wrestling forever!
That incident was blown out of proportion in my opinion, but Steiner did try to apologize to Shaw, who refused to speak to him. Steiner did his part to make amends so it just needs to be pushed to the side and everyone needs to move on, as WWE and Steiner appear to have done. Rick’s son is the new Intercontinental Champion and Rick and his brother Scott, aside from both being WWE Hall of Famers, are part of Bron Breakker’s story and career. It’s time to just move on from that unfortunate incident.
Why should we think that Joe Tessitore will be any better than Mike Adamle? Hasn’t WWE already tried this and failed by bringing in mainstream sports announcers?
Michael Cole was a mainstream news reporter before joining WWE. Territore might be very good in the commentator role. He might not be. We’ll never know for sure until we give him a chance. Don’t judge one person and his potential based on past talents. Each person deserves to be judged on his own merits and performance and not that of others.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions are welcome and appreciated. Be sure to like, share, and subscribe. And with that, let’s wrap this up. The lights are flickering as Hurricane Debby is moving in and I probably should get off the computer. Take care and be well, my friends. Watch out for foreign objects and I’ll see you at the matches.
