It’s the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. I’m Doug and you’re not. Let’s roll.
If you could place Eddie Guerrero in one match today, who’d you have him go against?
Probably against Seth Rollins. They’re similar in size and style and it would be a fast-paced and amazing match. Eddie versus Dominik Mysterio would be great too, for the obvious reasons.
How would you feel about a match between Rhea Ripley and Dominik Mysterio? Rhea has been booked like a badass who can throw around smaller guys and Dom is WWE’s biggest weasel. If any mixed match could work, it would be those 2, especially if it’s Rhea beating the brakes off Dom for five minutes between bells.
A singles match would not be something I’m in favor of because men and women shouldn’t, in my opinion, compete against each other in sports competitions. They’re close enough in size and given their characters, it’d be believable, but I don’t want to see it happen. A mixed-tag match makes more sense and that’s what we’ll be seeing in Germany at the WWE PLE coming up.
How do you feel about Michael Cole’s excoriating Dominik Mysterio on commentary? “Dummy Dom, two-timing SOB, etc” Pat McAfee Roasts Dom too, but he sounds like he’s having fun. Michael Cole comes off like he LOATHES Dom. I love it, but how about you?
I like it. Cole and McAfee are coming across as real people who just don’t like Dominik, and it’s helping to get the character of Dirty Dom over more and more as a dastardly heel. I love the little side remarks and comments.
Dave Meltzer says Kevin Owens turning down a shot at the Undisputed WWE Championship is ‘one of the weirdest angles he’s ever seen’. Thoughts?
It doesn’t make sense, given Owens’s character and what we’ve seen him do in the past. That’s for sure. But it adds intrigue to the match and will hopefully make the heel turn by Owens to Cody more believable and reprehensible. I’m sure that WWE has a reason.
Which one would you prefer? John Cena wins the World Title and breaks the record or John Cena wins the IC Title and becomes a Grand Slam Champion.
How about neither? John Cena’s retirement tour is about having fun, having some good matches, and Cena getting one last run with the WWE Universe. Both the World Championship and the IC Title are in good hands with Gunther and Bron Breakker. There is no need to screw up their runs to create an artificial moment for Cena. Cena just needs to wrestle and have good matches. Anything else would be unnecessary.
John Cena says that once the retirement tour ends in December, he will never wrestle again. Thoughts?
And I’m sure that he means it… now. But later down the road, when that phone call comes from Triple H and WWE opens the checkbook for a dream match possibility or a great story, a person can always change their mind, right?
Masked Superstar & Jimmy Valiant versus The Miz & R-Truth. Who wins?
Why would The Masked Superstar and Valiant be teaming together? I don’t think they ever did in the past. But both guys can go when necessary and although Valiant spent the last thirty years being more of a comedy guy, he could still wrestle with the best of them. As for Bill Eadie, be it as a Mongol, The Masked Superstar, or Demolition Ax, he’s one of the best of all time. And The Awesome Truth? They’re pretty damn good as well. This would be a weird match, but strangely enough, I think it would be good. I’ll go with Masked Superstar and Jimmy Valiant with the win.
Thoughts & memories of Eve Torres.
The main thing I remember about Eve Torres is that she broke Zack Ryder’s heart and cheated on him with John Cena. That damn hussy! But Eve was a good wrestler and character and had a legitimate fighting background. She would do well in today’s WWE and I could easily see her pulling a Trish Stratus and coming back for a spot in the Rumble or short run. She was the real deal and I was a fan.
If Bret Hart could have one last match (at his apex), who would you put him against?
Either Seth Rollins or CM Punk. Rollins for the same reasons that I pitched him for a match against Eddie Guerrero in the first question of this column, and Punk because it would be an interesting contrast of styles and a good match as well. Bret Hart versus CM Punk should be a dream match for any serious wrestling fan.
Eric Bischoff says Mercedes Mone can’t carry a promo. “Every time she opens her mouth, her stock goes down.” Thoughts?
He’s not wrong. Mone, when she was in WWE as Sasha Brooks, was scripted and didn’t get much promo time and now it’s obvious why. Some people are not natural talkers and trying to come up with their own words, it’s just not working. It’s cringe and every time Mone gets on a mic, it’s almost unbearable. Without the WWE machine behind her, Mone is bad. She’s not entertaining at all.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions are welcome and appreciated. Be sure to like, share, and subscribe. And with that, let’s wrap it up for now. Take care and be well, my friends. Watch out for foreign objects and I’ll see you at the matches.
