It’s the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. I’m Doug and this is how we do it. You have questions and I have the answers. It’s all about the King of Sports. Let’s roll.
Do you think the events from last night (suffocating someone with a bag, using a needle, etc) could hurt AEW with sponsors? I know Tony was a huge ECW fan and wants that 18-34 audience, but I can’t imagine WBD or sponsors liked what they saw last night. Thoughts?
I don’t think that Tony cares what the sponsors think. He books mainly for himself and the freaks, his words not mine, and the more out there and extreme, that’s what he likes to do. I doubt that WBD appreciated the carnage in the final match, but no deal has been signed yet in terms of distribution rights, so what would Tony care about what they think? I was repulsed, but so long as Tony wants things to keep going in this direction, it will. In the big picture of things, I wouldn’t call it smart, but I’m not a billionaire booking my own company so what do I know?
What is the most RANDOM wrestling fact that you happen to know?
If my friend, Michael Youngblood, had been wrestling during the territory days and before the national explosion, he would be one of the biggest stars in pro wrestling ever. Michael doesn’t always play well with others and that has hurt his career in many ways, but few are better on the stick or in the ring. He was a prodigy in so many ways and had a fantastic career, but the limitations of so few options to perform hurt him in many ways. He really and truly was, and is that good. And that’s not opinion. That’s pure fact.
What do you think is the biggest ‘money match’ in pro wrestling right now?
Right off the top of my head, the first match that comes to mind is Brock Lesnar versus Gunther. I really do want to see this match happen at some point, preferably Wrestlemania.
Who do you think should be the first to pin Roman Reigns in a match next, Solo Sikoa or Jacob Fatu?
I think more stories and options would happen if Jacob were to pin Roman first. He would then be a threat to Solo as well and imagine the directions they could go from there.
Bret Hart is scheduled to be at RAW on Monday night. What do you think The Hitman will be doing there?
I’d like to see him come out, say “Fuck Bill Goldberg”, and walk off. But if there needs to be a reason, how about Bret calling out Gunther about the honor and respect that comes with being the Champion? A little Bret pep talk if you will.
Omos versus The Big Show. Who wins?
This could be a very good match of two talented big men. I’d go with Big Show getting the win.
Thoughts on the Russian Bear, Ivan Koloff.
One of the most talented and greatest wrestlers of all time. He was the ultimate heel, the bad guy from Russia, and was as tough as nails. And away from the ring, he was just as tough, but with a heart of gold. He officiated at the wedding of my brother, Michael Youngblood, the man I mentioned earlier. Ivan was a pioneer in many ways for the sport of professional wrestling and before anyone else, he belongs in the WWE Hall of Fame. When you look up the word ‘Legend’ in the dictionary, Ivan’s picture will be there.
Who would you consider to be, Mr. Wrestlemania?
The first name that came to mind for me was John Cena. He was the face of WWE for so long, that it’s hard to imagine a Wrestlemania event without him.
Where is Jimmy Uso and when he returns, what will be his role?
From what I understand, Jimmy is recovering from injuries and is just waiting for Creative to give him a date for a return. He’ll return in a scenario to save Roman from Bloodline 2.0 and will be, I expect, a huge part of that showdown.
You’re starting a new promotion with 3 WWE mid-carders, 3 AEW mid-carders, 3 women (from either promotion), 2 announcers, 1 booker, and 3 legends. Who is on your roster?
Right off the top of my head, my WWE mid-carders would be Dominik Mysterio, Finn Balor, and Grayson Waller. My AEW mid-card talent would be Sammy Guevera, Daniel Garcia, and Powerhouse Hobbs. My women would be Rhea Ripley, Chelsea Green, and Nikki Cross. My announcers would be Corey Graves & Josh Matthews. My head booker would be an NC Indy wrestler and one-half of the Atlantic Coast Destruction Crew, SC/DC, Ethan Storm. My legends available for whatever role we needed them for would be The Miz, Christian Cage, and Dustin Rhodes.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions are welcome and appreciated. Be sure to like, share, and subscribe. And with that, I’m out of here. I’ll be back shortly with more. Take care and be well, my friends. I’ll see you at the matches.
