I’m Doug and this is the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. Are you ready? I said, ARE YOU READY? Let’s rock!
Is Vince McMahon the J.R. Ewing of professional wrestling?
That’s an interesting comparison, but in many ways, it fits. Most of you younger folks don’t remember the TV series Dallas, and just how vile & evil J.R. Ewing, played by Larry Hagman, truly was. He was charming and personable, but the means justified the end and he was the master of manipulation. It’s a great analogy.
What are your thoughts on Greg Gagne?
The son of a promoter, a fairly decent wrestler who had the mind, but not the physical tools, a master of rewriting history to suit his narrative, and forever stuck in the shadow of his father.
Do PG-13, aka Wolfie D & JC Ice, belong in the WWE Hall of Fame?
While I consider myself a fan of Wolfie and Jamie Dundee, they will not ever be a part of the WWE Hall of Fame. They had good careers, but the antics of Jamie, both in and out of the business, overshadow anything they accomplished as wrestlers. They are not going into the HOF.
With all of the recent criticism of WWE for not having black males in the main events, how do you think they’ll rectify this situation?
Well, Trick Williams won the NXT Championship last night, plus Kofi & Xavier Woods seem prepared to take a potential feud to the next level so three black men can work main events right there. It’s a baseless charge and grabbing at straws. Look at all of the POC, both men and women, who are working top matches in WWE. It’s about the character, the story, and what the fans want. Not the skin color. And that’s how it should be.
El Gigante versus The Great Khali. Who wins?
Compared to El Gigante, Great Khali looks like Lou Thesz. The Undertaker said that on a recent podcast. Not I, but I do agree. Khali wins.
How long will it take for All Ego Ethan Page to move to the main roster? And who, on the main roster, would you like to see him feud against?
After losing the NXT Championship last night to Trick Williams, it wouldn’t surprise me to see Page on RAW this upcoming week. As for who he can feud against, CM Punk put him to sleep last night. The seeds have been planted and once Punk’s feud with Drew ends on Saturday, I hope, Punk versus Page. Works for me.
Thoughts & memories of Terry Garvin, aka Terry Simms?
I remember seeing Garvin on the USWA, working as a color commentator. He looked like Jimmy Garvin, talked in a very high-pitched voice, and played up every gay stereotype imaginable. Of course, he was the heel. It would never fly today, but Garvin pulled it off and was always entertaining. I can’t remember the story, but Garvin began to use a different name, Terry Simms, dropped the vivid character and was extremely over as a babyface. He also did a podcast for a while. Garvin passed away in 2018.
Thom Latimer defeated EC3 to capture the NWA World Championship. Thoughts? Do you consider the NWA still relevant?
EC3 had a good run as the champion and now, it’s Latimer’s time to take the reigns. He’s an excellent wrestler and a talented performer. The gold-domed belt is in good hands. Is the NWA still relevant? It is, but just barely. Their run on the CW App ended this past week and for the next few weeks, they’ll be airing on YouTube. At the moment, the only thing keeping the NWA alive is Billy Corgan’s wallet. The company needs a complete overhaul and a TV deal or the days may be numbered. They have some good stuff, but I can’t see things improving until a strong television or streaming deal is established.
Blackjack Mulligan versus Braun Strowman. Who wins?
Braun is truly a monster among men and he moves great for a man that size. He would probably dominate any match against anyone, even a legend like Blackjack Mulligan. But Blackjack was the real deal and built differently from everyone else. He’d take the beating, bleed out with a face masked in crimson red, and then get pissed off for real. And the real fight would begin. Blackjack would win with the claw and then buy Braun a beer after the match. Mulligan wins.
Trick Williams is the new NXT Champion. Thoughts?
It was a fun match and a great way to start the NXT run on the CW. Trick is a talented wrestler and what was all the hoopla about black men not getting main event matches? Trick is now a two-time NXT Champion and the top guy. I’m happy for him and look forward to seeing what he does as the champion.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions are welcome and appreciated. Be sure to like, share, and subscribe. And with that, let’s wrap it up. Take care and be well, my friends. Watch out for foreign objects and I’ll see you at the matches.
