It’s Monday morning and you know what that means? Okay, maybe not, but work with me here. It’s Wrestling Fact or Fiction. The statements are courtesy of Mr. Jake Chambers of 411Mania.com. And the opinions that are presented afterward? That’s all me, baby! I’m Doug. Let’s do this.
Statement #1: Jon Moxley’s heel turn has been better than Roman Reigns’ face turn.
FICTION: It’s Moxley and he’s just an inconsistent and boring character to me, I have no interest in his heel turn. There’s no explanation why and it’s all just thrown out there for the fans to figure out for themselves. The Roman face-turn is a natural evolution of the storylines and with Roman, he’s getting cheered, but he’s still the heel Roman Reigns. It’s definitely more fun to watch as the story continues to develop.
Statement #2: Do you believe WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “HHH” Levesque when he says that he doesn’t see color/race when it comes to wrestlers who work for him?
FACT: Just look at the current WWE roster. It’s more diverse than at any other time in WWE history. People complain about people of color being discriminated against, but what about the New Day? How many tag team titles have they won? What about Roman, The Usos, R-Truth, Nia Jax, Naomi, Carmello Hayes, The Bloodline 2.0, Rey Mysterio, The Street Profits, Jade Cargill, Bianca Belair, Iyo Sky, Kairi Sane, Michin, and so many others? None of them are white. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. This is just people trying to stir up controversy where there is none and cause trouble. Triple H looks for talent and the potential to be a star and make WWE better as a product. Nothing else. I believe him.
Statement #3: The Ospreay-Ricochet-Takeshita match from AEW WrestleDream is one of the greatest triple threats of all time.
FICTION: If choreographed spots and flippy moves that look rehearsed and fake are your thing, I can see why this match appeals. But for me, I’m not into that. I want wrestling moves, fists, and something that looks like a fight instead of Dancing with the Stars. The moves are impressive, but it’s not professional wrestling.
Statement #4: MJF will be AEW Champion again before either Swerve Strickland or Hangman Adam Page.
FICTION: Given how confusing AEW is at times, it’s hard to make a call on this. MJF has only been a part-timer as of late and given his story with Adam Cole and with Daniel Garcia, I don’t see him and Moxley having issues at the moment. Who knows though? Tony might wake up tomorrow and decide they need another MJF title run. I don’t see Page with the belt anytime soon, but Swerve is still hot so I think he’s more likely than MJF, for now anyhow.
Statement #5: If Zack Sabre Jr. had remained in WWE the whole time following the Cruiserweight Classic, he would have become World/Universal champion by now.
FICTION: While I can easily see Sabre Jr., as the Intercontinental Champion or the United States Champion, I seriously doubt he’d ever have a run as one of the top guys. He’s a damn good wrestler, but I just don’t see him being the one WWE would want as a World or WWE Champion. It’s not an insult against Sabre Jr., but WWE just seems to go for a different style at the top.
Statement #6: WWE TV should no longer be considered a pro-wrestling show since the content now is mostly promos, vignettes, entrances, and matches interrupted by commercial breaks.
FICTION: What does that middle letter in WWE stand for? What is it that the men and women are doing in the middle of the ring after they finish talking? I believe it’s called wrestling. Yes, the matches aren’t quite as prominently featured as they have been in the past, but every promo, vignette, and story leads to what? A wrestling match. WWE gets most of their money from television and streaming, but they are now, then, and forever, a wrestling promotion first.
