Doug Maynard
I’m Doug and this is the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A, where no question is off limits. You ask and I’ll do my best to answer. Are you ready for today’s edition? Let’s do this.
100 days in, how would you rate GUNTHER’s reign as World Heavyweight Champion out of 10 thus far?
Gunther is a solid wrestler and is a great representative of WWE as their World Champion. That being said, his first reign as the top dog of RAW, has been less than impressive. On a scale of 1-10, I’d give it a 7 at best.
Does Miss Elizabeth belong in the WWE Hall of Fame?
In my opinion, Miss Elizabeth should have been inducted at the same time that Randy Savage was inducted. My guess is the nature of her passing, the overdose, prevented that. Liz does belong in the WWE Hall of Fame though, even if it’s only under the Legacy wing. She was too important as part of Randy Savage’s career to keep being ignored.
Do you want to see AEW bring Miro back or should they give him the release he requested?
Miro has repeatedly asked for a release and at this point, AEW has no reason to keep him under contract. They should release him from the contract and allow both parties to move on.
Arn Anderson & Dutch Mantell versus The Wild Samoans, Afa & Sika. Who wins?
Arn and Dutch are two legends and I’m sure that they could give Afa & Sika a good run for their money, but beat them? I doubt that would ever happen. Afa & Sika, The Wild Samoans, would win.
Brock Anderson and CW Anderson are making waves in MLW and all over the Indy scene. Would you like to see the modern-day version of the Minnesota Wrecking Crew as part of WWE?
I would love to see Brock and CW as part of the WWE. With Arn as their mentor and manager, they could cause some chaos on the WWE tag team scene, be it in NXT, Smackdown, or RAW. The Andersons versus Theory & Waller, or even versus Judgment Day is money just waiting to be printed.
RAW did a double taping this past Monday for the next two weeks of TV and plans currently for Smackdown to be a double taping as well. Why? WWE should be live every Monday and Friday.
This is being done for several reasons. Currently, while both RAW and Smackdown are running two-hour shows, it just makes sense financially to double up on the tapings. It hasn’t affected the ratings and it saves TKO millions of dollars in costs, so it’s a win-win. And more importantly, it gives the talent more time at home with their families during the holiday season. I’m sure that things will change once RAW moves to Netflix and Smackdown allegedly moves to three hours, but for the time being, WWE has a chance to look out for their people and cut some expenses for a few weeks. Why not take advantage of the situation? They are.
If President Trump asked you to appoint some members of his cabinet, but they have to be wrestlers, who would you appoint? Secretary of State, Defense, Education, Transportation, Press Secretary, and Homeland Security.
Right off the top of my head, I’d go with the following. Secretary of State: The Undertaker. Who’s going to argue with him? Defense? How about Kurt Angle? After all, he’s an Olympian who won a gold medal with a broken freakin’ neck. Education? Scott Steiner. I’ve heard he’s excellent in math. Transportation? Shawn Michaels. I remember he used to drive all the girls crazy. Press Secretary? Vickie Guerrero, just to watch her interact with the press. Excuse me? And Homeland Security? I would say Dutch Mantell, aka Zeb Coulter. We the People!
AEW has licensed “November Rain” from Guns N’ Roses. They will use the song to promote Full Gear. Thoughts.
This announcement has been all over social media and is getting more publicity and notice than any wrestler, angle, or anything else AEW-related ever has. Tony is spending millions of dollars for rights to a song, and this is a bigger happening for AEW than the PPV itself that the song will be allegedly promoting. This is just crazy and one of the big things wrong with AEW. Use the money to hire writers, increase production values, hire more WWE castaways, etc. Instead, it’s all for a thirty-year-old song that will be playing in the background. It makes no sense.
The TNA Wrestling and WWE NXT partnership: Who did it benefit the most?
WWE has benefitted the most with guest appearances, cameos, and just the conversation and stir that this crossover has created. But TNA has benefitted as well with the use of NXT talents on their shows, increased live attendance, and a feeling that anything can happen at a TNA show. NXT has gained the most, but both companies have benefitted.
Do you think Samantha Irvin and Ricochet are having second thoughts about leaving WWE?
Given the now-deleted rant that Ricochet did on Instagram and their comments on social media, I don’t think either Ricochet or Samantha are happy about the backlash their actions have caused. I’m sure there is some buyer’s regret and second-guessing going on.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions are welcome and appreciated. Be sure to like, share, and subscribe. And with that, let’s wrap this up. Take care and be well, my friends. Watch out for foreign objects and I’ll see you at the matches.
Ubuntu!
