The PM edition of the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. I’m Doug and I answer the questions every other wrestling site is afraid to. Are you ready? Let’s roll.
Who was the greatest team in the NWA?
This is a tough question because the NWA was the home to so many great tag teams, such as Jack & Jerry Brisco, Steamboat & Youngblood, The Rock & Roll Express, The Midnight Express, The Assassins, Dusty & Magnum TA, and countless others. But the greatest? I” say Ole and Gene Anderson, aka The Minnesota Wrecking Crew.
Of these four, Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Bret Hart, or The Rock, who was the most overrated?
It’s a tough call, but I’d say The Rock. Rock was a great talker and an excellent character, but he wasn’t the best in-ring wrestler of his time. He had about five spots to hit, and that was it. Being as strong a character as he was, he didn’t have to be a great wrestler.
Who would be on your WWE Mt. Rushmore? How about your WCW Mt. Rushmore?
For the WWE, Hulk Hogan, The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, and Steve Austin. As for WCW, Ric Flair, Sting, Hollywood Hogan, and DDP.
Roddy Piper versus Jon Moxley. Who wins?
The promos would be fun, and the blood would flow freely. It’d be a memorable match for sure. As for who wins, if there had to be a winner and DQs or count-outs didn’t matter, Hot Rod Roddy Piper would win.
Should Steve Mongo McMichael go into the WWE Hall of Fame?
Mongo was a Hall of Fame-worthy player in the NFL and was a memorable character as a member of the Horsemen. But as a wrestler, he was bad. The perfect person to be a Horseman at the time, but his in-ring skills were mediocre at best. No WWE Hall of Fame for Mongo.
Do you think Sammy Guevera will ever be a World Champion in AEW?
Sammy has managed to rub too many people wrong during his time in AEW and his in-ring skills have gotten worse, if that’s possible. I’m a fan of Sammy’s, but his career is on the downslide right now. I don’t see any major championship titles in his immediate future.
What are your thoughts on Del Wilkes, aka The Patriot?
I barely remember Wilkes. He did a run in WWE that was moderately successful, but if I remember correctly, he was replaced by Tom Brandi using the Patriot gimmick. Wilkes also had a run in WCW where he shared the WCW Tag Team Championship belts with a very young Marcus Alexander (not quite Buff) Bagwell. He was a solid wrestler in the ring, but I can’t remember any promo skills or big feuds. Just a good-sized masked guy.
If you could bring back two women from the past to challenge Bianca Belair & Naomi for the Women’s Tag Team Championship, who would it be?
How about the team of Ivory and Luna Vachon? They weren’t ever an official team in WWE, but they were close friends behind the scenes, and I think their characters would work well together. It’d be a good match too.
Is there anyone you’d like to see WWE pay tribute to who’s no longer with us during Saturday Night’s Main Event?
I’m hoping that they pay tribute to Howard Finkel in some way since The Fink was the ring announcer at the first-ever Saturday Night’s Main Event. Also, looking back at the first edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event, Cyndi Lauper, Wendi Richter, and Mr. T were all over that first show. Hopefully, those three will at least get a shout-out sometime during the show.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions are welcome and appreciated. Be sure to like, share, and subscribe. And with that, I’m out of here. Take care and be well, my friends. Enjoy Saturday Night’s Main Event tonight on NBC and Peacock. I’ll see you at the matches.
