It’s the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. I’m Doug. Let’s get busy and do this.
Should Cody Rhodes turn heel before he retires?
Given that as many fans were cheering for Kevin Owens last night at SNME as were for Cody, a heel turn by Cody may already be in the works. Cody is naturally a bit arrogant and it shows that the longer he’s champion, he’s getting more angst and tension from the fan base. It’s almost like John Cena-style heat. I can’t see Cody being a true heel, but getting an attitude and feeling betrayed by the fans, would get over very well. I’d love to see a heel Cody and Brandi for good measure, show up on my television screen.
Genuine question, what could AEW do to turn it around now? Even if they create better storylines, I feel like they’ve lost a section of fans that they’ll never get back. It doesn’t matter what top free agent they sign either.
An absolute reboot of the entire product and starting over would probably be their only real hope. AEW has a bad product and reputation and they seem to be digging themselves into a deeper hole with every show. Much like ECW rebranded itself from Eastern Championship Wrestling and became an entirely different promotion from its past by having Shane Douglas throw down the NWA Championship, AEW needs one of those moments before moving into an entirely new direction. It may be their only hope.
Gage Goldberg has an interest In WWE and has had talks with Triple H. Thoughts?
If the football thing at college doesn’t work out, Gage has pro wrestling as an option. Gage is a big athletic kid and seems to have a good head on his shoulders, so good for him. It’d be interesting to see what he can do inside a wrestling ring. Triple H is looking out for the future of WWE as well. It might not happen, but it’s a great move for both men.
Do you want to see Powerhouse Hobbs as the AEW International Champion?
I haven’t thought too much about it, but Hobbs is a talented young guy with a huge future ahead of him. Every wrestler has to start somewhere with championships and title belts. Hobbs as the AEW International Champion would be good for his career and future. Yeah, I’d like to see that happen.
Dark Side of the Ring is returning next year for Season 6. What topics would you like to see featured on the show?
The first topics and wrestlers that come to mind are Col. DeBeers of the AWA and his extremely racist character, the end of the AWA, the career and life of legendary female wrestler Ann Casey, the true history of Mae Young, and the life & times of Nature Boy Buddy Landel.
Would you rather have Kevin Owens as the WWE Champion or Finn Balor as the WWE World Heavyweight Champion?
Of the two, I’d prefer to see Owens as the WWE Champion. And given the way the match with Cody ended last night on SNME, plus the post-match antics, it may happen sooner than we’re currently thinking.
Do you want to see CM Punk do commentary for WWE Saturday Night Main Event?
I would have liked to have seen it, but unfortunately, it never happened. Punk was there backstage, but never made it on camera during the show. Too bad!
You’re asked to cast a movie version of Roseanne/The Conners but with WWE Superstars in each role. Can you do it?
Can I do it? Do you know who you’re talking to? Okay, let’s give it a shot. For Roseanne and Dan Conner, let’s go with Bayley and AJ Styles. For Jackie, Chelsea Green would be perfect. For Darlene, Becky, and DJ, we’re going with Sonya Deville, Liv Morgan, and The Miz. Grandma Bev would be played by the late Mae Young. And we’d finish out the casting with Darlene’s kids, Harris and Mark, and the baby-daddy, David, being played by Piper Niven, Tyler Breeze, and Chad Gable. And there you go.
When Asuka returns from injury, who should she feud with?
I’d start with a feud against partner Kairi Sane for “not checking up on her while she was injured” to allow Asuka to work her way back into main events. And then, whoever holds the Women’s IC title, could be Asuka’s target as she decides to go after gold because ‘no one is ready for Asuka!’.
In their primes, Sting versus The Rock. Who wins?
Rock was by far the better talker and promo, but Sting was better inside the ring. It’s hard to make a call since both men were strong performers and had great followings. I’ve always been a WCW guy at heart though so I’ll go with the gut. Sting would win.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions are welcome and appreciated. Be sure to like, share, and subscribe. And with that, let’s wrap it up. I’ll be back later with more stuff. Take care and I’ll see you at the matches.
